B150A02A-GAT SEAT BELT PRECAUTIONS All occupants of the vehicle should wear their seat belts at all times. In-deed, your province's laws may re- quire that some or all occupants of the vehicle use seat belts.The possibility of injury or the severity of injury in an accident will be de- creased if this elementary safety pre-caution is observed. In addition, follow the other instructions provided in this section. B150B01Y-GAT Infant or Small Child Some countries require the use of child restraint systems for infants and small children. Whether this is requiredby law or not, it is strongly recom- mended that a child restraint seat or infant restraint system be used forinfants or small children weighing less than 18 kilograms (40 pounds).

B150C02A-AAT Larger Children Children who are too large for child restraint systems should always oc- cupy the rear seat and use the avail-able lap/shoulder belts. The lap por- tion should be fastened snug on the hips and as low as possible. Checkbelt fit periodically. A child's squirming could put the belt out of position. Chil- dren are afforded the most safety inthe event of an accident when they are restrained by a proper restraint sys- tem in the rear seat. If a larger child(over age 13) must be seated in the front seat, the child should be securely restrained by the available lap/shoul-der belt and the seat should be placed in the rearmost position. Sitting in a reclined position or ly- ing down when your vehicle is in motion can be dangerous. Even if you buckle up, your seat belts can'tdo their job when you're reclined. The shoulder belt can't do its job because it won't be against yourbody. Instead, it will be in front of you. In a crash you could go into it with great force, receiving seriousneck or other injuries. The lap belt can't do its job either. In a crash the belt could go up overyour abdomen. The belt forces would be applied there, not at your strong pelvic bones.This could cause serious internal injuries. For proper protection when the ve-hicle is in motion, have the seatback upright. Then sit well back in the seat and wear your seat belt prop-erly. See page 1-34.

B150E01A-AAT Injured Person A seat belt should be used when an injured person is being transported.When this is necessary, you should consult a physician for recommenda- tions. B150F01A-AAT One Person Per Belt Two people (including children) should never attempt to use a single seat belt.This could increase the severity of injuries in case of an accident. B150G01A-AAT Do Not Lie Down To reduce the chance of injuries in the event of an accident and to achieve maximum effectiveness of the restraintsystem, all passengers should be sit- ting up and the front seats should be in an upright position when the car ismoving. A seat belt cannot operate properly if the person is lying down in the rear seat or if the front seat is in areclined position.

B160A01A-AAT CARE OF SEAT BELTS Seat belt systems should never be disassembled or modified. In addition,care should be taken to assure that seat belts and belt hardware are not damaged by seat hinges, doors orother abuse.
WARNING:
When you return the rear seatback to its upright position after the rear seatback was folded down, be care- ful not to damage the seat belt web- bing or buckle. Be sure that thewebbing or buckle does not get caught or pinched in the rear seat.
B160B01A-AAT Periodic Inspection It is recommended that all seat belts be inspected periodically for wear ordamage of any kind. Parts of the sys- tem that are damaged should be re- placed as soon as possible. B160C01A-AAT Keep Belts Clean and Dry Seat belts should be kept clean and dry. If belts become dirty, they can becleaned by using a mild soap solution and warm water. Bleach, dye, strong detergents or abrasives should not beused because they may damage and weaken the fabric. B160D01A-AAT When to Replace Seat Belts Entire in-use seat belt assembly or assemblies should be replaced if the vehicle has been involved in an acci-dent. This should be done even if no damage is visible. Additional ques- tions concerning seat belt operationshould be directed to your Hyundai Dealer.
B170A04A-AAT HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE FRONT SEAT SHOULDER BELT(If Installed) You can adjust the height of the shoul- der belt anchor to one of the 4 positions for maximum comfort and safety. If the height of the adjusting seat belt istoo near your neck, you will not be getting the most effective protection. The shoulder portion should be ad-justed so that it lies across your chest and midway over your shoulder near- est the door and not your neck.To adjust the height of the seat belt anchor, lower or raise the height ad- juster into an appropriate position. Toraise the height adjuster, pull it up. To

There will be an au-dible "click" when the tab locks into the buckle. B220C01A-AAT To Release the Seat Belt
When you want to release the seat belt, press the button in the locking buckle. WARNING:
The center lap belt latching mecha-nism is different from those for the rear seat shoulder belts. When fas-tening the rear seat shoulder belts or the center lap belt, make sure they are inserted into the correctbuckles to obtain maximum protec- tion from the seat belt system and assure proper operation.
B220A01A-AAT SEAT BELTS (2-Point Static Type) (Rear Seat Center)(If Installed)To Fasten Your Seat Belt
To fasten a 2-point static type belt, insert the metal tab into the locking buckle. There will be an audible "click" when the tab locks into the buckle.Check to make sure the belt is properly locked and that the belt is not twisted. B220B01A-AAT Adjusting Your Seat Belt With a 2-point static type seat belt, the length must be adjusted manually so it fits snugly around your body. Fastenthe belt and pull on the loose end to tighten. The belt should be placed as low as possible on your hips, not onyour waist. If the belt is too high, it could increase the possibility of your being injured in an accident.

o When using the rear seat center belt, you must lock all metal tabs and buckles. If any metal tab or buckle is not locked, it will in-crease the chance of injury in the event of collision.
o Never unlock the metal tab (a)
and the buckle (b) with the fol-lowing exceptions.
(1) In case of folding rear seatbacks down.
(2) If transporting an object on
the rear seat may cause dam- age to the rear seat center belt.
o Lock the metal tab (a) and the buckle (b) immediately after fold-ing rear seatbacks up. o To disconnect the metal tab (a)

When fastening the outboard seat belts or the center seat belt, make sure they are inserted into the cor-rect buckles to obtain maximum protection from the seat belt sys- tem and assure proper operation. B230A03P-GAT (If Installed) Children riding in the car should sit in the rear seat and must always beproperly restrained to minimize the risk of injury in an accident, sudden stop or sudden maneuver. Accordingto accident statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seats than in the front seat. Largerchildren not in a child restraint should use one of the seat belts provided. You are required by law to use safetyrestraints for children. If small children ride in your vehicle you must put them in a child restraint system (safety seat).Children could be injured or killed in a crash if their restraints are not properly secured. For small children and ba-bies, a child seat or infant seat must be used. Before buying a particular child restraint system, make sure it fits yourcar and seat belts, and fits your child. Follow all the instructions provided by the manufacturer when installing thechild restraint system.

Use the center seat belt for the rear to secure the child restraint system asillustrated. After installation of the child restraint system, rock the child seat back and forth, and side to side toensure that it is properly secured by the seat belt. If the child seat moves, readjust thelength of the seat belt. Then, if equipped, insert the child restraint tether strap hook into the child re-straint hook holder and tighten to se- cure the seat. Always refer to the child restraint system manufacturer's rec-ommendation before installing the child restraint system in your vehicle. B230G01A-GAT Installation on the Outboard Rear Seats To install a child restraint system on the outboard rear seats, extend theshoulder/lap belt from its retractor. Buckle the seat belt and allow the seat belt to take up any slack. Make surethat the lap portion of the belt is tight around the child restraint system and the shoulder portion of the belt is posi-tioned so that it cannot interfere with the child's head or neck. After installa- tion of the child restraint system, try tomove it in all directions to be sure the child restraint system is securely in- stalled.If you need to tighten the belt, pullmore webbing toward the retractor.When you unbuckle the seat belt and allow it to retract, the retractor will automatically revert back to its normalseated passenger emergency locking usage condition. NOTE:
o Before installing the child re-
straint system, read the instruc- tions supplied by the child re- straint system manufacturer.
o If the seat belt does not operate as described, have the systemchecked immediately by yourauthorized Hyundai dealer.
WARNING:
Do not install any child restraintsystem in the front passenger seat.Should an accident occur and cause the passenger's side airbag to de- ploy, it could severely injure or killan infant or child seated in an infant or child seat. Therefore, only use a child restraint system in the rearseat of your vehicle.

1. To engage the child restraint seat to
the ISOFIX anchor, insert the child restraint seat latch into the ISOFIX anchor. Listen for the audible "click" sound.
2. Connect the tether strap hook to the child restraint hook holder and tightento secure the seat. Refer to "Secur-ing a Child Restraint System with the Tether Anchorage System" on page 1-42.
WARNING:
o Do not install a child restraint seat at the center of the rear seat using the vehicle's ISOFIX an- chors. The ISOFIX anchors areonly provided for the left and right outboard rear seating posi- tions. Do not misuse the ISOFIXanchors by attempting to attach a child restraint seat in the middle of the rear seat to the ISOFIXanchors. In a crash, the child restraint seat ISOFIX attachments may not be strong enough tosecure the child restraint seat properly in the center of the rear seat and may break, causing se- rious injury or death.
o When using the vehicle’s “ISOFIX” system to install a child restraintsystem in the rear seat, all unusedvehicle rear seat belt metal latch plates or tabs must be latched securely in their seat belt bucklesand the seat belt webbing must be retracted behind the child restraint to prevent the child from reachingand taking hold of unretracted seat
belts. Unlatched metal latch plates or tabs may allow the child toreach the unretracted seat belts which may result in strangulation and a serious injury or death to thechild in the child restraint.
o Do not mount more than one child
restraint to a child restraint loweranchorage point. The improper increased load may cause the an- chorage points or tether anchor tobreak, causing serious injury or death.
o Attach the ISOFIX or ISOFIX-com- patible child restraint seat onlyto the appropriate locations shown in the illustration.
NOTE: An ISOFIX-child-seat can only be installed if the seat has a vehicle- specific approval according to ECE-R44. Before using the ISOFIX-child- seat, which was bought for another car, ask your Hyundai-dealerwhether this seat-type is approved and recommended for your Hyundai. To secure the child restraint seat

3. SRS control module o When the pre-tensioner seat belts
are activated, a loud noise maybe heard and fine dust, which may appear to be smoke, may be visible in the passenger compart-ment. These are normal operat- ing conditions and are not haz- ardous.
o Although it is harmless, the fine dust may cause skin irritationand should not be breathed forprolonged periods. Wash your hands and face thoroughly after an accident in which the pre-tensioner seat belts were acti- vated.
WARNING:
To obtain maximum benefit from a pre-tensioner seat belt:
1. The seat belt must be worn cor- rectly.
2. The seat belt must be adjusted to the correct position.
NOTE:
o Both the driver's and front passenger's pre-tensioner seat belts will be activated in certainfrontal collisions. The pre- tensioner seat belts can be acti- vated alone or, where the frontalcollision is severe enough, to- gether with the airbags.
When the vehicle stops suddenly, or if the occupant tries to lean forward tooquickly, the seat belt retractor will lock into position. In certain frontal colli- sions, the pre-tensioner will activateand pull the seat belt into tighter con- tact against the occupant's body.
