1) Remove the ignition key from the
ignition switch.
2) Make sure that the bonnet, doors and tailgate door are closed and latched.
3) Lock the doors using the transmitter of the keyless entry system.
After completion of the steps above, the turn signal lights will blink once to indicate that the system is armed. NOTE:
1) If any door, tailgate door or engine bonnet remains open, the system will not be armed.
2) If this happens, rearm the system as previously described.
CAUTION:
Do not arm the system until all pas-sengers have left the car. If the sys- tem is armed whilst a passenger(s) remains in the car, the alarm may beactivated when the remaining passenger(s) leaves the car.

B070C01HP-EAT Alarm Stage The alarm will be activated if any of the following occurs whilst the car is parked and the system is armed.
1) A front or rear door is opened with-
out using the transmitter.
2) The tailgate door is opened without using the transmitter.
3) The engine bonnet is opened.The siren will sound and the turn signal lights will blink continuouly for approxi- mately 27 seconds. To turn off thesystem, unlock the door or tailgate door with the transmitter. CAUTION:
Avoid trying to start the engine whilst the system is armed.
B070C01HP B070D01HP-EAT Disarmed Stage The system will be disarmed when the driver's or passenger's door is unlocked by depressing the "UNLOCK" button onthe transmitter. After completion of the step above, the turn signal lights will blink twice to indicate that the system is disarmed.

NOTE: If any door,
tailgate door or engine
bonnet is not opened within 30 sec- onds, the system will be rearmedand all doors re-locked.
CAUTION:
Only the transmitter can disarm thearmed stage. If the transmitter doesnot disarm the system, it is neces- sary to take the following steps;
1. Unlock the door with the key, which will cause, the alarm to be acti- vated.
2. Insert the key in the ignition key cylinder and turn the ignition keyto "ON" position.
3. Wait for 30 seconds. After completion of the steps above, the system will be disarmed. B070F02A-EAT Keyless Entry System (Not all models) Locking doors
1. Close all doors.
2. Push the "LOCK" button on the trans-
mitter.
3. At the same time, all doors lock and the turn signal lights will blink once to indicate that the system is armed.
Unlocking doors
1. Push the "UNLOCK" button on the transmitter.
2. At the same time, all doors unlock and the turn signal lights will blink twice to indicate that the system isdisarmed.
NOTE: The transmitter will not work if any of following occur:
- The ignition key is in ignition switch.
- You exceed the operating distance limit (10 m). - The battery in the transmitter is
weak.
- Other vehicles or objects may be blocking the signal.
- The weather is extremely cold.
- The transmitter is close to a radio transmitter such as a radio stationor an airport which can interferewith normal operation of the trans- mitter.
When the transmitter does not work correctly, open and close the door with the ignition key. If you have a problem with the transmitter, con-tact an authorised Hyundai repairer. NOTE: Keep the transmitter away from wa- ter or any liquid. If the keyless entrysystem is inoperative due to expo- sure to water or liquids, it will not be covered by your manufacturer ve-hicle warranty.

The door ajar warning light warns you that a door is not completely closed. Ensure that the light is extinguished prior to driving the vehicle. B260M01A-AAT Low Fuel Level Warning Light
The low fuel level warning light comes on when the fuel tank is approaching empty. When it comes on, you should add fuel as soon as possible. Drivingwith the fuel level warning light on or with the fuel level below "E" can cause the engine to misfire and damage thecatalytic converter.

Front Fog Indicator Light
Front fog indicator light comes on when-ever the fog light switch is on. B260K01B-EAT
Tailgate Door Open Warn- ing Light
This light remains on unless the tail-
gate door is completely closed andlatched. B260B01HP-EAT SRS (Airbag) Service Reminder Indicator (SRI)
The SRS service reminder indicator (SRI) comes on and flashes for approxi- mately 6 seconds after the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position or after the engine is started, after which it willgo out. This light also comes on when the SRS is not working properly. If the SRI does not flash, or continuously remains on after flashing for about 6 seconds whenyou turned the ignition key to the "ON" position or started the engine, or if it comes on whilst driving, have the SRSinspected by a Hyundai authorised re- pairer.

Charging System Warn- ing Light
CAUTION:
If the drive belt (generator belt) is loose, broken, or missing whilst thevehicle is driving, there may be a serious malfunction, the engine could also overheat because thisbelt also drives the water pump.
The charging system warning light should come on when the ignition is turned on, then go out when the engine is running. If the light stays on whilst theengine is running, there is a malfunction in the electrical charging system. If the light comes on whilst you are driving,stop, turn off the engine and check under the bonnet. First, make certain the generator drive belt is in place. If itis, check the tension of the belt. And then, have the system checked by your Hyundai authorised repairer.

o To release the parking brake, applythe foot brake and pull up the parking brake lever slightly. Depress the button and lower the lever.
NOTE: The parking brake pedal should be checked periodically for correct op- eration.
The parking brake must always be set when the vehicle is to be left unat- tended. When the parking brake is ap- plied, and the ignition key is at the "ON"position, the parking brake warning light will be illuminated. Before driving the vehicle, the parking brake must be fullyreleased and the warning light extin- guished.
o To engage the parking brake, apply the foot brake and pull up the lever as far as possible.PARKING BRAKE

WARNING:
The tailgate door should always be
kept completely closed whilst the vehicle is in motion. If it is left openor ajar, poisonous exhaust gases may enter the car resulting in seri- ous illness or death to the occu-pants. See additional warnings con- cerning exhaust gases on page 2-2.

o The tailgate door can be locked or unlocked with a key.
o The tailgate door is opened by pulling the outside handle up, raising the tailgate door manually.
o To close, lower the tailgate door, then press down on it until it isclosed. To be sure the tailgate dooris fully closed, always try to pull it up again without using the outside handle.

Luggage compartment light has a 3- position switch. The three positions are:
o In the "MIDDLE" position, the lug-
gage compartment light comes on when the tailgate door is opened, then goes out when it is closed.
o In the "ON" position, the light stays on at all times.
o In the "OFF" position, the light stays
off at all times. B540D02HP-DAT Luggage Net Some objects can be kept in the net at the luggage compartment. Use the luggage net on the floor or atthe back of the luggage compartment to prevent objects from sliding.
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to the goods or the vehicle, care should be takenwhen carrying fragile or bulky ob- jects in the luggage compartment.

WARNING: ENGINE EXHAUST CAN BE DANGEROUS!
Engine exhaust gases are potentially lethal. If at any time engine exhaust gas is detected within the passenger compartment, move the vehicle to an open area and open all windows. o Never inhale exhaust gas. Exhaust gases contain Carbon Monoxide which is colourless and odourless. Carbon Monoxide is poisonous and can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyxiation. o Exhaust System Maintenance. Ensure that the exhaust system is maintained in good condition and is free from excessive corrosion and damage which may result in leakage. If the vehicle is driven over an object which strikes the exhaust system,ensure that the exhaust system is inspected at the first available opportunity to ensure that no leakage exists. o Confined Areas. Do not run the engine in confined spaces, allowing the engine to idle in a garage, even when the doors are open is dangerous practice. Only start the engine immediately prior to moving the vehicle out of the garage. o Prolonged Idling. If it is necessary to allow the vehicle to idle for prolonged periods, ensure that the heating system air intake control is set to the "Fresh" position, the blower is set to high speed operation and that the vehicle is standing in an open area. o Load Carrying. If it is necessary to carry long objects which do not permit the tailgate door to be fully closed, the side windows must remain closed and the heating air intake control set to the "Fresh" position with the blower running at the highest speed setting. To ensure correct operation of the heater system, the air intake grilles at the base of the windscreen must not be obstructed by snow leaves etc..

7EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMS

Inspect the exhaust systemWhenever a change is noticed in the
sound of the exhaust system, the underside or rear of the vehicle maybe damaged. You should inspect the exhaust system each time the car is raised for lubrication or oil change. To check condition
1. Holes and gas leaks due to corro- sion, damage, etc., should be recti- fied.
2. The joints should be checked for loose connections and gas leakage.
3. The hanger rubber and brackets
should be checked for damage.EXHAUST GAS WARNING
H030A01HP-EAT Exhaust gases contain carbon monox- ide, a potentially toxic gas that is colorless and odorless. Avoid breath-ing exhaust gases.
o Do not run the engine in confined areas, such as garages, any longer than necessary to move the car inor out.
o Do not drive with the tailgate door
open. An open tailgate door maydraw exhaust gases into the pas- senger compartment. If you must drive with the tailgate door open,drive only with all the windows wide open and the blower motor on high speed.
o If it is necessary to sit in a parked
car with the engine running formore than a short period, adjust your heating system to force out- side air into the car by placing theair selector button of the heater in the FRESH AIR position and mode control in the VENT position. Setthe fan at high speed and the con- trols in any position desired.EMISSION CONTROL SYS- TEMS

tems which are as follows.
(1) Crankcase emission control sys- tem (For a Petrol Engine)
(2) Evaporative emission control sys- tem (For a Petrol Engine)
(3) Exhaust emission control system
In order to assure the proper function
of the emission control system, it is recommended that you have your car inspected and maintained by a Hyundaiauthorised repairer in accordance with the schedule in this manual.
