Features of your vehicle
Light on indicator
The indicator illuminates when the tail lights or headlights are ON.
High beam indicator
This indicator illuminates when the head- lights are on and in the high beam posi-
tion or when the turn signal lever is pulled
into the Flash-to-Pass position.
Front fog light indicator (if equipped)
The indicator illuminates when the front
fog lights are ON.
Engine oil pressure
warning light
This warning light indicates the engine oil
pressure is low.
If the warning light illuminates while driv- ing:
1. Drive safely to the side of the road and stop.
2. With the engine off, check the engine oil level. If the level is low, add oil as required.
If the warning light remains on after
adding oil or if oil is not available, call an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
CAUTION
If the oil pressure warning light stays on while the engine is run-ning, serious engine damage may
result. The oil pressure warninglight comes on whenever there isinsufficient oil pressure. In normaloperation, it should come on when
the ignition switch is turned on,then go out when the engine isstarted. If the oil pressure warning
light stays on while the engine isrunning, there is a serious malfunc-tion.
If this happens, stop the car assoon as it is safe to do so, turn off the engine and check the oil level. Ifthe oil level is low, fill the engine oil
to the proper level and start theengine again. If the light stays onwith the engine running, turn theengine off immediately. In any
instance where the oil light stays onwhen the engine is running, theengine should be checked by anauthorized HYUNDAI dealer before
the car is driven again.
CAUTION
If the engine is not stopped imme-diately after the engine oil pressurewarning light is illuminated, severedamage could result.

Shift pattern indicator
(if equipped)
The indicator displays which automatic
transaxle shift position is selected.
Manual transaxle shift
indicator (if equipped)
This indicator informs you which gear is
desired while driving to save fuel.
For example
: Indicates that shifting up to the 3rdgear is desired (currently the shift
lever is in the 2nd gear).
: Indicates that shifting down to the 3rd gear is desired (currently the
shift lever is in the 4th gear).
✽✽ NOTICE
When the system is not working proper-
ly, up & down arrow indicator and Gear
are not displayed.
Charging system warning light
This warning light indicates a malfunction
of either the generator or electricalcharging system.
If the warning light comes on while the
vehicle is in motion:
1. Drive to the nearest safe location.
2. With the engine off, check the genera- tor drive belt for looseness or break-
age.
3. If the belt is adjusted properly, a prob- lem exists somewhere in the electrical
charging system. Have an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer correct the problem
as soon as possible.
Door ajar warning light
This warning light illuminates when a door is not closed securely with the igni-
tion switch in any position.
Tailgate open warning light
This warning light illuminates when the tailgate is not closed securely with the
ignition switch in any position.
Low fuel level warning light
This warning light indicates the fuel tank
is nearly empty. When it comes on, you
should add fuel as soon as possible.
Driving with the fuel level warning light on
or with the fuel level below “E” can causethe engine to misfire and damage the
catalytic converter.

Malfunction indicator (MIL)(check engine light)
This indicator light is part of the Engine
Control System which monitors various
emission control system components. If
this light illuminates while driving, it indi- cates that a potential malfunction has
been detected somewhere in the emis- sion control system. This light will also illuminate when the
ignition switch is turned to the ON posi-
tion, and will go out in a few seconds
after the engine is started. If it illuminates
while driving, or does not illuminate when
the ignition switch is turned to the ON
position, take your vehicle to your near-
est authorized HYUNDAI dealer and
have the system checked.
Generally, your vehicle will continue to be
drivable, but have the system checked by
an authorized HYUNDAI dealer promptly.
ESC indicator (ElectronicStability Control)
(if equipped)
The ESC indicator will illuminate when
the ignition switch is turned ON, but
should go off after approximately 3 sec-
onds. When the ESC is on, it monitors
the driving conditions and under normal
driving conditions, the ESC indicator will
remain off. When a slippery or low trac- tion condition is encountered, the ESC
will operate, and the ESC indicator will
blink to indicate the ESC is operating. If the ESC system malfunctions the indica-
tor illuminates and stays on. Take your
vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI deal-
er and have the system checked.
ESC OFF indicator (if equipped)
The ESC OFF indicator will illuminate
when the ignition switch is turned ON,
but should go off after approximately 3
seconds. To switch to ESC function off,
press the ESC OFF button. The ESCOFF indicator will illuminate indicating
the ESC is deactivated.
CAUTION
Prolonged driving with the
Emission Control SystemMalfunction Indicator Light illumi-
nated may cause damage to theemission control systems whichcould effect drivability and/or fueleconomy.

If the EmissionControl System
Malfunction Indicator Light illumi- nates, potential catalytic converterdamage is possible which could result in loss of engine power.
Have the Engine Control Systeminspected as soon as possible byan authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Engine coolanttemperature warning light
(if equipped)
The warning light illuminates if the tem-
perature of the engine coolant is above248±5.4°F (120±3°C).
Do not continue driving with an overheat-
ed engine. If your vehicle overheats, refer
to “Overheating” in section 6.
✽✽ NOTICE
If the engine coolant temperature warn-
ing light illuminates, it indicates over-
heating that may damage the engine.
Electric power steering (EPS) system warning light
This indicator light comes on after the
ignition key is turned to the ON position and then it will go out after the engine is
started. This light also comes on when the EPS
has some troubles. If it comes on while
driving, have your vehicle inspected by
an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Cruise indicator CRUISE indicator The indicator light illuminates when the
cruise control system is enabled.
The cruise indicator light in the instru- ment cluster is illuminated when the
cruise control ON-OFF button on the
steering wheel is pushed.
The indicator light turns off when the
cruise control ON-OFF button is pushed
again. For more information about the
use of cruise control, refer to “Cruise
control system” in section 5.
Cruise SET indicator The indicator light illuminates when the
cruise function switch (SET- or RES+) is ON.
The cruise SET indicator light in the
instrument cluster is illuminated when
the cruise control switch (SET- or RES+)
is pushed. The cruise SET indicator light
does not illuminate when the cruise con-
trol switch (CANCEL) is pushed or the system is disengaged.Key reminder warning chime
If the driver’s door is opened while the
ignition key is left in the ignition switch
(ACC or LOCK position), the key
reminder warning chime will sound. This
is to prevent you from locking your keys
in the vehicle. The chime sounds until the
key is removed from the ignition switch or
the driver’s door is closed.

High beam operation
To turn on the high beam headlights,
push the lever away from you. Pull it back
for low beams. The high beam indicator will light when
the headlight high beams are switchedon.
To prevent the battery from being dis-
charged, do not leave the lights on for aprolonged time while the engine is not
running. To flash the headlights, pull the lever
towards you. It will return to the normal
(low beam) position when released. The
headlight switch does not need to be on
to use this flashing feature.
Turn signals and lane change sig- nals
The ignition switch must be on for the
turn signals to function. To turn on the
turn signals, move the lever up or down
(A). The green arrow indicators on the
instrument panel indicate which turn sig-
nal is operating. They will self-cancel
after a turn is completed. If the indicator
continues to flash after a turn, manually
return the lever to the OFF position.

Windshield wipers
Operates as follows when the ignition
switch is turned ON.
MIST : For a single wiping cycle, movethe lever to this (MIST) position
and release it. The wipers will
operate continuously if the lever isheld in this position.
OFF : Wiper is not in operation
INT : Wiper operates intermittently at the same wiping intervals. Use this
mode in a light rain or mist. To vary
the speed setting, turn the speed control knob(1).
LO : Normal wiper speed
HI : Fast wiper speed
✽✽ NOTICE
If there is heavy accumulation of snow
or ice on the windshield, defrost the
windshield for about 10 minutes, or
until the snow and/or ice is removed
before using the windshield wipers to
ensure proper operation.

✽ NOTICE
 When you operate the wipers, if your vehicle has a problem in any part of
the wiper operation system, the wiper
may operate in the LO mode regard-
less of the wiper switch position. In
this case, have your vehicle checked
by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as
soon as possible.
 When the ignition key is removed, the wiper blade sometimes may move
slightly for reducing the deterioration
of the windshield wipers.
Windshield washers
In the OFF position, pull the lever gently
toward you to spray washer fluid on the
windshield and to run the wipers 1-3
cycles. Use this function when the windshield is
dirty.
The spray and wiper operation will con-
tinue until you release the lever.
If the washer does not work, check the
washer fluid level. If the fluid level is not
sufficient, you will need to add appropri-
ate non-abrasive windshield washer fluid
to the washer reservoir.
The reservoir filler neck is located in the
front of the engine compartment on the
passenger side.

Map lamp
Push the lens to turn the map lamp on or
off.
: The light (with room lamp)stays on at all times.
: The light (with room lamp)
comes on when any door
(except tailgate) is opened
regardless of the ignition switch
position. When doors (except
tailgate) are unlocked by the
transmitter, the light (with room
lamp) comes on for approxi-mately 30 seconds as long as
any door (except tailgate) is not opened. Also, the light (with room lamp)
goes out gradually after approxi- mately 30 seconds if the door
(except tailgate) is closed.
However, if the ignition switch is
ON or all doors (except tailgate)
are locked, the light will turn off
immediately.
If a door (except tailgate) is
opened with the ignition switch in
the ACC or LOCK position, the
light (with room lamp) stays on for
about 20 minutes. However, if a
door (except tailgate) is opened
with the ignition switch in the ON position, the light (with room
lamp) stays on continuously.
: The light (only map lamp) stays off at all times.
❈ When the lamp is turned ON
by pressing the lens (1), the
lamp does not turn off even if
the switch (2) is in the OFF position.

Operation Tips
To keep dust or unpleasant fumes fromentering the car through the ventilation
system, temporarily set the air intake control to the recirculated air position.
Be sure to return the control to the
fresh air position when the irritation
has passed to keep fresh air in the
vehicle. This will help keep the driver
alert and comfortable.
Air for the heating/cooling system is drawn in through the grilles just ahead
of the windshield. Care should be
taken that these are not blocked by
leaves, snow, ice or other obstructions.
To prevent interior fog on the wind- shield, set the air intake control to the
fresh air position and fan speed to the
desired position, turn on the air condi- tioning system, and adjust the temper-
ature control to desired temperature.Air conditioning
All HYUNDAI Air Conditioning Systems
are filled with environmentally friendly
R-134a refrigerant which does not dam-
age the ozone layer.
1. Start the engine. Push the air condi- tioning button.
2. Set the mode to the position.
3. Set the air intake control to the outside air or recirculated air position.
4. Adjust the fan speed control and tem- perature control to maintain maximum
comfort.
When maximum cooling is desired, set the temperature control to the extreme left position, set the mode control to
the MAX A/C position, then set the fanspeed control to the highest speed.✽✽ NOTICE
 When using the air conditioning sys- tem, monitor the engine temperature
gauge closely while driving up hills or
in heavy traffic when outside temper-
atures are high. Air conditioning sys-
tem operation may cause engine over-
heating. Continue to use the blower
fan but turn the air conditioning sys-
tem off if the engine temperature
gauge indicates engine overheating.
 When opening the windows in humid
weather air conditioning may create
water droplets inside the vehicle.
Since excessive water droplets may
cause damage to electrical equipment,
air conditioning should only be oper-
ated with the windows closed.
