7. To use the rear seat, lift and pushthe seatback backward. Push the
seatback firmly until it clicks into
place. Make sure the seatback is
locked in place.
When returning the rear seatbacks to
the upright position, remember to
return the rear shoulder belts to theirproper position. When returning the rear seat-
back from a folded to an upright
position, hold the seatback and
return it slowly. Ensure that the
seatback is completely locked
into its upright position bypushing on the top of the seat-
back. In an accident or sudden
stop, the unlocked seatback
could allow cargo to move for-
ward with great force and enter
the passenger compartment,
which could result in serious
injury or death.
WARNING
Do not place objects in the rear
seats, since they cannot be
properly secured and may hit
vehicle occupants in a collision
causing serious injury or death.
WARNING
Make sure the engine is off, the
shift lever is in P (Park), and the
parking brake is securely
applied whenever loading or
unloading cargo. Failure to take
these steps may allow the vehi-
cle to move if the shift lever is
inadvertently moved to anotherposition.

child restraint in the rear seat of
the vehicle.
Placing a rear-facing child
restraint in the front seat can
result in serious injury or death
if the child restraint is struck by
an inflating air bag.

3. Check that the child restraint issecurely attached to the seat by
pushing and pulling the seat for-
ward and from side-to-side.Securing a child restraint with
a lap belt or lap/shoulder belt
When not using the LATCH system,
all child restraints must be secured to
a vehicle rear seat with the lap partof a lap/shoulder belt.
Automatic lock mode
Since all passenger seat belts move
freely under normal conditions and
only lock under extreme or emer-
gency conditions (emergency locking
mode), you must manually pull the
seat belt all the way out to shift the
retractor to the “Automatic Locking”
mode to secure a child restraint.
The “Automatic Locking” mode will
help prevent the normal movement
of the child in the vehicle from caus-ing the seat belt to loosen and com-
promise the child restraint system. To
secure a child restraint system, use
the following procedure.

To install a child restraint system on
the rear seats, do the following:
1. Place the child restraint system ona rear seat and route the lap/shoul- der belt around or through the child
restraint, following the restraint
manufacturer’s instructions.
Be sure the seat belt webbing is not twisted.
✽✽ NOTICE
When using the rear center seat belt,
you should also refer to “3-point Rear
Center Seat Belt” in this chapter.
2. Fasten the lap/shoulder belt latch into the buckle. Listen for the dis-
tinct “click” sound.
✽✽ NOTICE
Position the release button so that it
is easy to access in case of an emer-
gency.
3. Pull the shoulder portion of the seat belt all the way out. When the
shoulder portion of the seat belt is
fully extended, it will shift the
retractor to the “Automatic
Locking” (child restraint) mode.

4. Slowly allow the shoulder portionof the seat belt to retract and listen
for an audible “clicking” or “ratchet-
ing” sound. This indicates that the
retractor is in the “Automatic
Locking” mode. If no distinct soundis heard, repeat steps 3 and 4. 5. Remove as much slack from the
belt as possible by pushing down
on the child restraint system while
feeding the shoulder belt back into
the retractor.
6. Push and pull on the child restraint system to confirm that the seat
belt is holding it firmly in place. If itis not, release the seat belt andrepeat steps 2 through 6.
7. Double check that the retractor is in the “Automatic Locking” mode
by attempting to pull more of the
seat belt out of the retractor. If you
cannot, the retractor is in the
“Automatic Locking” mode.
If your CRS manufacturer instructs or
recommends you to use a tetheranchor with the lap/shoulder belt,
refer to the previous pages for more
information.
✽✽ NOTICE
When the seat belt is allowed to
retract to its fully stowed position, the
retractor will automatically switch
from the “Automatic Locking” mode
to the emergency lock mode for nor-
mal adult usage.
To remove the child restraint, press
the release button on the buckle andthen pull the lap/shoulder belt out of
the restraint and allow the seat belt
to retract fully.

“Automatic Locking” mode, the
child restraint can move when
your vehicle turns or stops sud-
denly. A child can be seriously
injured or killed if the child
restraint is not properly anchored
in the car, including manually
pulling the seat belt all the wayout to shift the rectractor to the
“Automatic Locking” mode.

If the key is in the ignition switchand any door is opened, the doors
will not lock even though the lock
button (1) of the central door lock
switch is pressed.
If the smart key is in the vehicle and any door is opened, the doors
will not lock even though the lock
button (1) of the central door lock
switch is pressed. Do not leave children or animals
unattended in your vehicle. An
enclosed vehicle can become
extremely hot, causing death or
serious injury to unattended
children or animals who cannot
escape the vehicle. Children
might operate features of the
vehicle that could injure them,
or they could encounter other
harm, possibly from someone
gaining entry to the vehicle.WARNING
The doors should always be
fully closed and locked while
the vehicle is in motion. If the
doors are unlocked, the risk of
being thrown from the vehicle ina crash is increased.
WARNING
Always secure your vehicle.
Leaving your vehicle unlocked increases the potential risk to
you or others from someone hid-
ing in your vehicle.
To secure your vehicle, while
depressing the brake, move the
shift lever to the P (Park) posi-
tion, engage the parking brake,
and place the ignition switch in
the LOCK/OFF position, close
all windows, lock all doors, and
always take the key with you.
WARNING
Opening a door when something
is approaching may cause dam-
age or injury. Be careful when
opening doors and watch for
vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles
or pedestrians approaching the
vehicle in the path of the door.

Auto door lock/unlock features
All doors will be automaticallylocked when shifting the transaxle
shift lever out of P (Park) with the
engine is running.
All doors will be automatically unlocked when shifting the
transaxle shift lever into P (Park)
with the engine is running.
✽✽ NOTICE
An authorized HYUNDAI dealer
can activate or deactivate some auto
door lock/unlock features as follows:
 Speed sensing auto door lock
 Auto door unlock by using the dri- ver's door lock button
 Auto door unlock when the igni- tion key is removed from the igni-
tion switch
 Auto door lock/unlock by shifting the shift lever out of P (Park) or
into P (Park)
If you want to activate or deactivate
some door lock/unlock feature, con-
sult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Child-protector rear door locks
The child safety lock is provided to
help prevent children seated in therear from accidentally opening the
rear doors. The rear door safety locks
should be used whenever children
are in the vehicle.
The child safety lock is located on
the edge of each rear door. When the
child safety lock is in the lock position
( ), the rear door will not open ifthe inner door handle (1) is pulled. To allow a rear door to be opened
from inside the vehicle, unlock the
child safety lock.

If children accidently open the
rear doors while the vehicle is
in motion, they could fall out of
the vehicle. The rear door safety
locks should always be used
whenever children are in the
vehicle.

Opening the tailgate
1. Make sure the shift lever is in P(Park, for automatic transaxle) or
neutral (for manual transaxle) and
set the parking brake.
2. Perform one of the following: - Press the smart key TailgateUnlock button for more than onesecond.
- Press the button on the tailgate itself with the smart key in yourpossession.
- Use the mechanical key.
3. Lift the tailgate up.
Closing the tailgate
Lower the tailgate and press down
until it locks.

Always keep the tailgate com-
pletely closed while the vehicle
is in motion. If it is left open or
ajar, poisonous exhaust gases
containing carbon monoxide
(CO) may enter the vehicle and
serious illness or death mayresult.
WARNING
Make sure there are no people
or objects around the tailgate
before opening or closing the
tailgate.

 Make sure to refuel your vehicle according to the "Fuel
Requirements" suggested in the
Introduction chapter.
 Do not spill fuel on the exterior surfaces of the vehicle. Any type of
fuel spilled on painted surfaces
may damage the paint.

Do not use matches or a lighter and do not smoke or
leave a lit cigarette in your
vehicle while at a gas station,
especially during refueling.
Do not over-fill or top-off your
vehicle tank, which can cause
gasoline spillage.
If a fire breaks out during refu-
eling, leave the vicinity of the
vehicle, and immediately con-
tact the manager of the gasstation and then contact the
local fire department. Follow
any safety instructions they
provide.
If pressurized fuel sprays out,
it can cover your clothes or
skin and thus subject you to
the risk of fire and burns.
Always remove the fuel cap
carefully and slowly. If the cap
is venting fuel or if you hear a
hissing sound, wait until the
condition stops before com-
pletely removing the cap.

Always check that the fuel cap
is installed securely to pre-
vent fuel spillage in the eventof an accident.
If the fuel filler cap requires
replacement, use only a gen-
uine HYUNDAI cap or the equiv-
alent specified for your vehicle.An incorrect fuel filler cap canresult in a serious malfunctionof the fuel system or emission
control system.

When using an approved
portable fuel container, be sureto place the container on the
ground prior to refueling. Static
electricity discharge from the
container can ignite fuel vapors
causing a fire. Once refueling
has begun, contact between
your bare hand and the vehicleshould be maintained until the
filling is complete.
Use only approved portable
plastic fuel containers designed
to carry and store gasoline.
When refueling, always move
the shift lever to the P (Park)
position, set the parking
brake, and place the ignition
switch to the LOCK/OFF posi-
tion. Sparks produced byelectrical components relatedto the engine can ignite fuel
