PRECAUTIONS

If you choose to perform the repair, recover the refrigerant using only dedicated equipment and contain-
ers. Do not recover contaminated refrigerant into your existing service equipment. If your facility
does not have dedicated recovery equipment, you may contact a local refrigerant product retailer for avail-
able service. This refrigerant must be disposed of in accordance with all federal and local regulations. In
addition, replacement of all refrigerant system components on the vehicle is recommended.

If the vehicle is within the warranty period, the air conditioner warranty is void. Please contact NISSAN
Customer Affairs for further assistance.
General Refrigerant PrecautionsEJS003WR
WARNING:

Do not release refrigerant into the air. Use approved recovery/recycling equipment to capture the
refrigerant every time an air conditioning system is discharged.

Always wear eye and hand protection (goggles and gloves) when working with any refrigerant or
air conditioning system.

Do not store or heat refrigerant containers above 52 °C (125 °F).

Do not heat a refrigerant container with an open flame; if container warming is required, place the
bottom of the container in a warm pail of water.

Do not intentionally drop, puncture, or incinerate refrigerant containers.

Keep refrigerant away from open flames: poisonous gas will be produced if refrigerant burns.

Refrigerant will displace oxygen, therefore be certain to work in well ventilated areas to prevent
suffocation.

Do not pressure test or leak test HFC-134a (R-134a) service equipment and/or vehicle air condi-
tioning systems with compressed air during repair. Some mixtures of air and HFC-134a (R-134a)
have been shown to be combustible at elevated pressures. These mixtures, if ignited, may cause
injury or property damage. Additional health and safety information may be obtained from refriger-
ant manufacturers.
Precautions for Leak Detection DyeEJS003WS

The A/C system contains a fluorescent leak detection dye used for locating refrigerant leaks. An ultraviolet
(UV) lamp is required to illuminate the dye when inspecting for leaks.

Always wear fluorescence enhancing UV safety goggles to protect your eyes and enhance the visibility of
the fluorescent dye.

The fluorescent dye leak detector is not a replacement for an electronic refrigerant leak detector. The fluo-
rescent dye leak detector should be used in conjunction with an electronic refrigerant leak detector (J-
41995).

For your safety and the customer's satisfaction, read and follow all manufacturer's operating instructions
and precautions prior to performing work.

A compressor shaft seal should not be repaired because of dye seepage. The compressor shaft seal
should only be repaired after confirming the leak with an electronic refrigerant leak detector (J-41995).

Always remove any dye from the leak area after repairs are complete to avoid a misdiagnosis during a
future service.

Do not allow dye to come into contact with painted body panels or interior components. If dye is spilled,
clean immediately with the approved dye cleaner. Fluorescent dye left on a surface for an extended period
of time cannot be removed .

Do not spray the fluorescent dye cleaning agent on hot surfaces (engine exhaust manifold, etc.).

Do not use more than one refrigerant dye bottle (1/4 ounce / 7.4 cc) per A/C system.

Leak detection dyes for HFC-134a (R-134a) and CFC-12 (R-12) A/C systems are different. Do not use
HFC-134a (R-134a) leak detection dye in CFC-12 (R-12) A/C systems or CFC-12 (R-12) leak detection
dye in HFC-134a (R-134a) A/C systems or A/C system damage may result.

The fluorescent properties of the dye will remain for over three (3) years unless a compressor failure
occurs.

Vehicles with factory installed fluorescent dye have this identification label on the underside of hood.

Removal and Installation of Hood Lock ControlEIS004Q9
REMOVAL
1. Remove the front fender protector (LH). Refer to EI-23, "FENDER PROTECTOR" .
2. Disconnect the hood lock primary and secondary hood lock cables from the hood lock. Unclip the primary cable from the radiator core support upper and hood ledge.
3. Remove the hood lock assembly.
4. Remove the secondary hood lock release assembly.
5. Remove the grommet from the dash lower, and pull the primary hood lock cable into the passenger room. CAUTION:
While pulling, be careful not to damage the outside of the hood lock cable.

INSTALLATION
1. Pull the hood lock cable through the dash lower hole into the engine room.
Be careful not to bend the cable too much, keeping the radius
100mm (3.94 in) or more.
2. Make sure the cable is not offset from the positioning grommet, and push the grommet into the dash lower hole securely.
3. Apply sealant around the grommet at * mark.
4. Install the primary and secondary cables securely to the hood lock.
5. Install the hood lock and the secondary hood lock release assemblies.
6. Check the hood lock adjustment and hood opener operation. Refer to BL-12, "
Fitting Adjustment" .
Hood Lock Control InspectionEIS004QA
CAUTION:
If the hood lock cable is bent or deformed, replace it.
1. Remove the front grille. Refer to EI-17, "
FRONT GRILLE" .
2. Make sure the secondary latch is properly engaged with the sec- ondary striker with hood's own weight by dropping it from
approx. 200 mm (7.87 in) height.
3. While operating the hood opener, carefully make sure the front end of the hood is raised by approx. 20 mm (0.79 in). Also make
sure the hood opener returns to the original position.
4. Check the hood lock lubrication condition. If necessary, apply “body grease ” to the points shown in the figure.
5. Install the front grille. Refer to EI-17, "
FRONT GRILLE" .

3. CHECK HOOD SWITCH
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect hood switch connector.
3. Check continuity between hood switch terminals 1 and 2.
OK or NG
OK >> Check the following:

Hood switch ground circuit.

Harness for open or short between hood switch and
IPDM E/R
NG >> Replace hood switch.

1. SECURITY INDICATOR LAMP ACTIVE TEST
With CONSULT-II
Check "THEFT IND ” in "ACTIVE TEST" mode with CONSULT-II.
Without CONSULT-II
1. Disconnect BCM.
2. Check voltage between BCM harness connector M18 terminal 23 and ground.
OK or NG
OK >> Security indicator lamp is OK.
NG >> GO TO 2.
2. SECURITY INDICATOR LAMP CHECK
Check security indicator lamp condition.
Refer to DI-5, "
COMBINATION METERS" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> Replace combination meter (security indicator lamp). Refer to DI-8, "
Combination Meter" .

8. Select “DTC & SRT CONFIRMATION ” then “SRT WORK SUP-
PORT ” mode with CONSULT-II.
9. Rev engine up to 2,000 to 3,000 rpm and hold it for 3 consecu- tive minutes then release the accelerator pedal completely.
If “INCMP ” of “CATALYST ” changed to “CMPLT ”, go to step 12.
10. Wait 5 seconds at idle.
11. Rev engine up to 2,000 to 3,000 rpm and maintain it until “INCMP ” of “CATALYST ” changes to “CMPLT ” (It will take
approximately 5 minutes).
If not “CMPLT ”, stop engine and cool it down to less than 70 °C
(158 °F) and then retest from step 1.
12. Select “SELF-DIAG RESULTS ” mode with CONSULT-II.
13. Confirm that the 1st trip DTC is not detected. If the 1st trip DTC is detected, go to EC-356, "
Diagnostic Proce-
dure" .
Overall Function CheckUBS00H4H
Use this procedure to check the overall function of the three way catalyst (manifold). During this check, a 1st
trip DTC might not be confirmed.
WITH GST
1. Start engine and warm it up to the normal operating temperature.
2. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
3. Start engine and keep the engine speed between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm for at least 1 minute under no load.
4. Let engine idle for 1 minute.
5. Open engine hood.
6. Set voltmeter probe between ECM terminals ECM terminals 55
[HO2S2 (bank 1) signal], 74 [HO2S2 (bank 2) signal] and
ground.
7. Keep engine speed at 2,500 rpm constant under no load.
8. Make sure that the voltage does not vary for more than 5 sec- onds.
If the voltage fluctuation cycle takes less than 5 seconds, go to
EC-356, "
Diagnostic Procedure" .

1 cycle: 0.6 - 1.0 → 0 - 0.3 → 0.6 - 1.0

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative and positive battery cables, then wait at least 3 minutes.
2. Remove right and left wiper arms. Refer to WW-28, "
Front Wiper Arms" .
3. Remove cowl top seal.

Release plastics clips on cowl top seal which go through cowl tops LH and RH and cowl top extension.
4. Remove cowl top covers LH and RH.

Release plastic clips under cowl top covers attaching to grommets on hoodledge.

Disconnect washer tubes from washer nozzles under cowl top covers.
5. Remove cowl top extension brackets LH and RH.

Disconnect wiper motor harness from cowl top extension bracket LH.

Harness Indication

Letter designations next to test meter probe indicate harness
(connector) wire color.

Switch Positions
Switches are shown in wiring diagrams as if the vehicle is in the “normal” condition.
A vehicle is in the “normal” condition when:

ignition switch is “OFF”,

doors, hood and trunk lid/back door are closed,

pedals are not depressed, and

parking brake is released.
Detectable Lines and Non-Detectable Lines
In some wiring diagrams, two kinds of lines, representing wires, with different weight are used.

General maintenance includes those items which should be checked during the normal day-to-day operation
of the vehicle. They are essential if the vehicle is to continue operating properly. The owner can perform these
checks and inspections or have their INFINITI dealers perform them.

The maintenance items listed here should be checked on a regular basis, such as when performing periodic maintenance, cleaning the

Tires Check the pressure with a gauge at least once a month and always prior to a
long distance trip. Adjust to the specified pressure if necessary. Check carefully
for damage, cuts or excessive wear. —
Wheel lug nuts When checking the tires, make sure no nuts are missing, and check for any

Windshield
Clean the windshield on a regular basis. Check the windshield at least every six
months for cracks or other damage. Repair as necessary. —

balanceIf the vehicle pulls to either side while driving on a straight and level road, or if
you detect uneven or abnormal tire wear, there may be a need for wheel align-
ment. If the steering wheel or seat vibrates at normal highway speeds, wheel

Windshield wiper

Check for cracks or wear if they do not wipe properly.

Doors and engine
hood Check that all doors and the engine hood operate smoothly as well as the back
hatch. Also make sure that all latches lock securely. Lubricate if necessary.
Make sure that the secondary latch keeps the hood from opening when the pri-
mary latch is released.
When driving in areas using road salt or other corrosive materials, check lubri-

Lamps
Make sure that the head lamps, stop lamps, tail lamps, turn signal lamps, and
other lamps are all operating properly and installed securely. Also check head

Seat belts Check that all parts of the seat belt system (e.g. buckles, anchors, adjusters and
retractors) operate properly and smoothly and are installed securely. Check the
