SYSTEM OPERATION
The FEB with pedestrian detection system oper-
ates at speeds above approximately 3 mph
(5 km/h). For the pedestrian detection function,
the FEB with pedestrian detection system oper-
ates at speeds between 6 – 37 mph (10 –
60 km/h).
If a risk of a forward collision with a vehicle is
detected, the FEB with pedestrian detection sys-
tem will first provide a warning to the driver by
flashing the vehicle ahead detection indicator
and providing an audible alert. In addition, the
FEB with pedestrian detection system pushes
the accelerator pedal up, and then the system
applies partial braking. If the driver applies the
brakes quickly and forcefully, but the FEB with
pedestrian detection system detects that there is
still the possibility of a forward collision, the sys-
tem will automatically increase the braking force.
If the risk of a collision becomes imminent and the
driver does not take action, the FEB with pedes-
trian detection system issues the second warning
to the driver by flashing the FEB with pedestrian

detection emergency warning indicator (red) ,
providing an audible warning, and then automati-
cally applies harder braking.
If a risk of a forward impact with a pedestrian is
detected, the FEB with pedestrian detection sys-
tem will provide a warning to the driver by flashing
the FEB with pedestrian detection emergency
warning indicator (red) , provides an audible alert
and the system will apply partial baking. If the
driver applies the brakes quickly and forcefully
but the FEB with pedestrian detection system
detects that there is still the possibility of a for-
ward impact with a pedestrian, the system will
automatically increase the braking force. If the
risk of collision becomes imminent and the driver
does not take action, the FEB with pedestrian
detection system automatically applies harder
braking.
NOTE:
The vehicle’s brake lights come on when
any braking is performed by the FEB with
pedestrian detection system.
Depending on vehicle speed and distance to the
vehicle or pedestrian ahead, as well as driving
and roadway conditions, the system may help the
driver avoid a forward collision or may help miti-
gate the consequences if a collision should be
unavoidable. If the driver is handling the steeringwheel, accelerating or braking, the FEB with pe-
destrian detection system will function later or
will not function.
The automatic braking will cease under the fol-
lowing conditions:
● When the steering wheel is turned to avoid a
collision.
● When the accelerator pedal is depressed.
● When there is no longer a vehicle or a pe-
destrian detected ahead.
If the FEB with pedestrian detection system has
stopped the vehicle, the vehicle will remain at a
standstill for approximately 2 seconds before the
brakes are released.

●In the event of an accident that requires
body repair and painting, the vehicle
should be delivered to an INFINITI re-
tailer to have the Li-ion battery pack
and high-voltage parts such as the in-
verter, including the wiring harness, re-
moved prior to painting. Li-ion battery
packs exposed to heat in the paint
booth will experience capacity loss.
Damaged Li-ion battery packs may also
pose safety risks to untrained mechan-
ics and repair personnel. The emergency shut-off system is activated and
the high-voltage system automatically turns off in
the following conditions:
● Front and side collisions in which the air
bags are deployed
● Certain rear collisions
● Certain INFINITI Direct Response Hybrid
System malfunctions
For the above collisions and the certain hybrid
system malfunctions, the READY to drive indica-
tor light will turn off. For additional information,
refer to “Warning lights, indicator lights and au-
dible reminders” in the “Instruments and con-
trols” section of this manual.
The emergency shut-off activates for the above
collisions to minimize risk of an event that could
cause injury or an accident. If the emergency
shut-off system activates, the hybrid system may
not switch to the READY to drive position; it is
recommended that you contact an INFINITI re-
tailer. Even if the ignition switch is switched to the
READY to drive position, the system may shut off
suddenly. Therefore, drive cautiously to the near-
est INFINITI retailer or contact an INFINITI retailer
as soon as possible. To start the INFINITI Direct Response Hybrid
System, depress the brake pedal and place the
ignition switch in the ON position when the trans-
mission is in the P (Park) position or N (Neutral)
position (P is recommended) .
CAUTION
Do not start the system in N (Neutral)
position under cold condition of the sys-
tem. Start in the P (Park) position in that
case.
The READY to drive indicator light
flashes
until the hybrid system is ready to drive.
If starting in a low temperature environment, the
flashing time of the READY lamp becomes lon-
ger. It cannot move out from P (Park) during
flashing.
When the READY to drive indicator light
illuminates, the vehicle can be driven, even if the
gasoline engine is not running.
NOTE:
The gasoline engine starts and stops auto-
matically. It may stop during deceleration
or when the vehicle is stopped.
EMERGENCY SHUT-OFF SYSTEM OPERATION OF THE HYBRID SYSTEM

This vehicle is equipped with two braking sys-
tems:● Hydraulic brake system
● Regenerative brake system
When the vehicle decelerates while the vehicle is
driven with the shift lever in the D (Drive) position
or in the manual shift mode, the Li-ion battery can
be charged by the electric motor. The electric
motor converts the energy of the rotating wheels
into electric power under the following circum-
stances: ● When the accelerator pedal is released
● When the brake pedal is depressed
● When there is no malfunction in the brake
system or the INFINITI Direct Response Hy-
brid System
The regenerative brake may not work properly if
the vehicle is installed with tires and road wheels
other than the ones specified in this manual.
While the regenerative cooperative brake system
is operating, you might feel a slight vibration or
hear the system working when braking. This is
normal. The regenerative cooperative brake system con-
trols both the hydraulic and regenerative brakes.
If you feel unusual deceleration when braking,
have the brake and hybrid systems checked. It is
recommended that you visit an INFINITI retailer
for this service.
Drive your vehicle with smooth accelera-
tion and deceleration.
● While driving, energy is recovered through
the regenerative brake as the vehicle decel-
erates. However, for most efficient use, do
not accelerate or decelerate your vehicle
more than necessary.
● Avoid abrupt acceleration and deceleration.
● The power of the Li-ion battery can be
checked on the Energy Flow in the center
display (models with navigation system) or
Li-ion battery status meter in the vehicle
information display. For additional informa-
tion, refer to “Energy Flow (models with navi-
gation system)” in this section or “Trip com-
puter” in the “Instruments and controls”
section of this manual. Gradual or non-
abrupt acceleration and deceleration will
make more effective use of the electric
power.
● When parking, be sure to place the shift
lever in the P (Park) position. While driving,
place the shift lever in the D (Drive) position.
REGENERATIVE BRAKE EFFICIENT USE OF YOUR VEHICLE

The VSP system is a function that uses sound to
help alert pedestrians of the presence of the
vehicle when it is being driven at a low speed in
the electric drive mode under the following con-
ditions:● The sound starts when the vehicle starts
accelerating.
● The sound stops when the vehicle speed is
more than 19 mph (30 km/h) while acceler-
ating only when vehicle is powered by the
electric motor.
● The sound starts when the vehicle speed is
less than 16 mph (25 km/h) while deceler-
ating only when vehicle is powered by the
electric motor.
● The sound stops when the vehicle stops.
● The sound does not stop with the vehicle in
the R (Reverse) position even if the vehicle
stops.
The VSP system is automatically turned on when
the vehicle is in the READY to drive mode.
If there is a malfunction in the VSP system, the
VSP OFF indicator light in the meter illuminates.

tion of this manual.WARNING
● If the sound from the VSP system is not
heard while driving, stop the vehicle in a
safe and quiet location. Open a window,
and then place the vehicle in the R (Re-
verse) position with the brake pedal
firmly depressed. Check that the oper-
ating sound can be heard from the front
side of the vehicle.
● If the sound cannot be heard, it is rec-
ommended that you immediately con-
tact an INFINITI retailer for inspection.
HIGH-VOLTAGE COMPONENTS
AND THEIR LOCATIONS
WARNING
●The INFINITI Direct Response Hybrid
System uses high voltage up to approxi-
mately 168 volts. The system can be hot
during and after starting. Be careful of
both the high voltage and the high tem-
perature. Obey the warning labels at-
tached to the vehicle.
● Never touch, disassemble, remove or
replace the high-voltage parts, har-
nesses and their connectors. High-
voltage harnesses are orange. Touch-
ing, disassembling, removing or
replacing those parts and harnesses
can cause severe burns or electric
shock that may result in serious injury
or death.

SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT
Both the driver’s and passenger’s front seats are
equipped with a seat belt warning light. The
warning light, located on the instrument panel,
will show the status of the driver and passenger
seat belt.
NOTE:
The front passenger seat belt warning light
will not light up if the seat is not occupied.
For additional information, refer to “Warning
lights, indicator lights and audible reminders” in
the “Instruments and controls” section of this
manual.
PREGNANT WOMEN
INFINITI recommends that pregnant women use
seat belts. The seat belt should be worn snug and
always position the lap belt as low as possible
around the hips, not the waist. Place the shoulder
belt over your shoulder and across your chest.
Never run the lap/shoulder belt over your ab-
dominal area. Contact your doctor for specific
recommendations.
INJURED PERSONS
INFINITI recommends that injured persons use
seat belts. Check with your doctor for specific
recommendations.
PRE-CRASH SEAT BELTS WITH
COMFORT FUNCTION (front seats)
(if so equipped)
The pre-crash seat belt tightens the seat belt with
a motor to help restrain front seat occupants. This
helps reduce the risk of injury in a collision.
The motor retracts the seat belt under the follow-
ing emergency conditions:● During emergency braking.
● During sudden steering maneuvers ●
Activation of the Forward Emergency Brak-
ing (FEB) (if so equipped) . For additional
information, refer to “Forward Emergency
Braking (FEB)” in the “Starting and driving”
section of this manual.
● In the event of certain types of rollover colli-
sions.
The pre-crash seat belt will not be active when: ● the seat belt is not fastened.
● the vehicle speed is under 10 mph (15 km/h)
during emergency braking.
● the vehicle speed is under 19 mph (30 km/h)
during sudden steering maneuvers or cer-
tain types of rollover collisions.
The pre-crash seat belt will not be active when
the brake pedal is not depressed except when
sudden steering maneuvers occur and the For-
ward Emergency Braking (FEB) (if so equipped)
activates.
The motor also retracts the seat belt when the
seat belt is fastened or unfastened. When the
seat belt is fastened, the motor tightens the seat
belt for a snug fit. When the seat belt is unfas-
tened, the motor retracts the seat belt. If the seat
belt is not fully retracted, the motor retracts the
seat belt when the door is opened.

If any light fails to come on or operate in a way
other than described, it may indicate a burned-
out bulb and/or a system malfunction. Have the
system checked. It is recommended you visit an
INFINITI retailer for this service.
Some indicators and warnings are also displayed
in the vehicle information display between the
speedometer and tachometer. For additional in-
formation, refer to “Vehicle information display” in
this section.
WARNING LIGHTS

mation display” in this section.
12–volt battery charge warninglight
If this light comes on when the READY to drive
indicator light comes on, it may indicate the
charging system is not functioning properly. It is
recommended you visit an INFINITI retailer for
this service.
CAUTION
The charging system may not be function-
ing properly if the 12–volt battery charge
warning light comes on while the hybrid
system is running. The hybrid system will
stop operating when the 12–volt battery
becomes discharged. Immediately stop
the vehicle in a safe place and contact an
INFINITI retailer.
orAnti-lock Braking
System (ABS)
warning light
When the ignition switch is placed in the ON
position, the ABS warning light illuminates and
then turns off. This indicates the ABS is opera-
tional.
If the ABS light comes on while the engine is
running, it may indicate the anti-lock braking sys-
tem is not functioning properly. Have the system
checked. It is recommended that you visit an
INFINITI retailer for this service.
If an ABS malfunction occurs, the anti-lock func-
tion is turned off. The brake system then operates
normally, but without anti-lock assistance. For
additional information, refer to “Brake system” in
the “Starting and driving” section of this manual.
orBrake warning light(red)
This light functions for both the parking brake and
the foot brake systems.
Parking brake indicator
When the ignition switch is placed in the ON
position, the light comes on when the parking
brake is applied.
Low brake fluid warning light
When the ignition switch is placed in the ON
position, the light warns of a low brake fluid level.
If the light comes on while the engine is running
with the parking brake not applied, stop the ve-
hicle and perform the following:
1. Check the brake fluid level. Add brake fluid as necessary. For additional information, re-
fer to “Brake fluid” in the “Maintenance and
do-it-yourself” section of this manual.
2. If the brake fluid level is correct, have the system checked. It is recommended that you
visit an INFINITI retailer for this service.

WARNING
●Your brake system may not be working
properly if the warning light is on. Driv-
ing could be dangerous. If you judge it
to be safe, drive carefully to the nearest
service station for repairs. Otherwise,
have your vehicle towed because driv-
ing it could be dangerous.
● Pressing the brake pedal with the en-
gine stopped and/or a low brake fluid
level may increase your stopping dis-
tance and braking will require greater
pedal effort as well as pedal travel.
● If the brake fluid level is below the
MINIMUM or MIN mark on the brake
fluid reservoir, do not drive until the
brake system has been checked. It is
recommended that you visit an INFINITI
retailer for this service.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) warning
indicator
When the parking brake is released and the
brake fluid level is sufficient, if both the brake
warning light and the ABS warning light illumi-
nate, it may indicate the ABS is not functioning
properly. Have the brake system checked, and if
necessary, repaired. It is recommended that you
visit an INFINITI retailer for this service. Avoid high-speed driving and abrupt braking. For addi-
tional information, refer to “Anti-lock Braking Sys-
tem (ABS) warning light” in this section.
Direct Response Hybrid
warning light
When the ignition switch is in the ON position,
the hybrid system warning light illuminates. After
starting the hybrid system, the hybrid system
warning light turns off. If the hybrid system warn-
ing light illuminates while driving, it may indicate
that there is a malfunction in the electric motor
and/or other hybrid system components. It is
recommended that you stop your vehicle imme-
diately and contact an INFINITI retailer.
Electronically controlled brakewarning light (yellow)
When the ignition switch is placed in the ON
position and the hybrid system is in the READY
mode, the light stays on for about 2 seconds. If
the light comes on at any other time, it may
indicate the regenerative brake and/or the elec-
tronically controlled brake systems are not func-
tioning properly. Have the system checked. It is
recommended that you visit an INFINITI retailer
for this service.
If the hydraulic brake warning light also comes on
with the parking brake not applied, stop the ve-
hicle immediately and it is recommended that you call an INFINITI retailer. For additional informa-

driving section of this manual.
WARNING
Your brake system may not be working
properly if both the brake warning light
and electronically controlled brake sys-
tem warning light come on when the hy-
brid system is in READY mode and the
parking brake is not applied. Driving could
be dangerous. If you judge it to be safe,
drive carefully to the nearest service sta-
tion for repairs. Otherwise, have your ve-
hicle towed because driving could be
dangerous.
Forward Emergency Braking
(FEB) system warning light (if
so equipped)
This light illuminates when the Forward Emer-
gency Braking system is set to OFF on the meter
display.
If the light illuminates when the Forward Emer-
gency Braking system is ON, it may indicate that
the system is unavailable. For additional informa-
tion, refer to “Forward Emergency Braking (FEB)”
in the “Starting and driving” section of this
manual.
