GETTING TO KNOW YOUR VEHICLE
KEYS
Key Fob
Key FobYour vehicle uses a keyless ignition system.
The ignition system consists of a key fob with
Keyless Go and a START/STOP push button
ignition system. The Remote Keyless Entry
(RKE) system consists of a key fob with a
mechanical key and Keyless Enter-N-Go
feature (if equipped).
NOTE:
The key fob may not be detected by the
vehicle if it is located next to a mobile phone,
laptop or other electronic device; these
devices may block the key fob’s wireless
signal.
The key fob allows you to lock or unlock the
doors and swing gate from distances up to
approximately 66 ft (20 m). The key fob
does not need to be pointed at the vehicle to
activate the system. NOTE:
With the ignition in the ON/RUN position
and with the vehicle doors open, the lock
button will be disabled, and only the unlock
button will be enabled. All RKE commands
will be disabled once the vehicle begins
moving at 2 mph (4 km/h) or above.
Backup Mode Starting
In case the ignition switch does not change
with the push of a button, the key fob may
have a low or fully depleted battery. A low key
fob battery can be verified by referring to the
instrument cluster, which will display direc
-
tions to follow.
NOTE:
A low key fob battery condition may be indi -
cated by a message in the instrument cluster
display, or by the LED light on the key fob. If
the LED key fob light no longer illuminates
from key fob button pushes, then the key fob
battery requires replacement.

WARNING!
Push the Mechanical Key Release Button
only with the key fob facing away from
your body, especially your eyes and objects
that may be damaged, such as clothing.
CAUTION!
The electrical components inside of the key
fob may be damaged if the key fob is
subjected to strong electrical shocks. In
order to ensure complete efficiency of the
electronic devices inside of the key fob,
avoid exposing the key fob to direct sunlight.

In this situation, a back up method can be used
to operate the ignition switch. Put the nose side
of the key fob against the START/STOP ignition
button, and push to operate the ignition switch.
Backup Starting Method
NOTE:
Improper disposal of key fob batteries may
be harmful to the environment. Please see an
authorized dealer for proper battery disposal.
To Unlock The Doors And Swing Gate
Push and release the key fob unlock button
once to unlock the driver's door only, or twice
to unlock all the doors and swing gate. When
the key fob unlock button is pushed, the Illu -
minated Entry will initiate, and the turn
signal lights will flash twice.
To Lock The Doors And Swing Gate
Push and release the lock button on the key
fob to lock all doors. The turn signals will
flash, and the horn will chirp once to
acknowledge the lock signal.
Request For Additional Key Fobs
NOTE:
Only key fobs that are programmed to the
vehicle electronics can be used to start and
operate the vehicle. Once a key fob is
programmed to a vehicle, it cannot be
programmed to any other vehicle.
Duplication of key fobs may be performed at
an authorized dealer. This procedure
consists of programming a blank key fob to
the vehicle electronics. A blank key fob is
one that has never been programmed. NOTE:
When having the Sentry Key Immobilizer
System serviced, bring all vehicle keys
with you to an authorized dealer.
Keys must be ordered to the correct key
cut to match the vehicle locks.
IGNITION SWITCH
Keyless Enter-N-Go — Ignition
This feature allows the driver to operate the
ignition switch with the push of a button as
long as the key fob is in the passenger
compartment.
The Keyless Push Button Ignition has several
operating modes that are labeled and will
illuminate when in position. These modes
are OFF, ACC, RUN, and START.
NOTE:
In case the ignition switch does not change
with the push of a button, the key fob may
have a low or depleted battery. In this situa
-
tion, a back up method can be used to
operate the ignition switch. Put the nose side
of the key fob (side with the mechanical key)
against the START/STOP ignition button and
push to operate the ignition switch.
WARNING!
Always remove the key fobs from the
vehicle and lock all doors when leaving
the vehicle unattended.
Always remember to place the ignition in
the OFF mode.

WARNING!
When exiting the vehicle, always remove
the key fob from the vehicle and lock
your vehicle.
Never leave children alone in a vehicle,
or with access to an unlocked vehicle.
Allowing children to be in a vehicle unat-
tended is dangerous for a number of
reasons. A child or others could be seri -
ously or fatally injured. Children should
be warned not to touch the parking
brake, brake pedal or the gear selector.
Do not leave the key fob in or near the
vehicle, or in a location accessible to
children, and do not leave the ignition of
a vehicle equipped with Keyless
Enter-N-Go in the ON/RUN mode. A
child could operate power windows,
other controls, or move the vehicle.
Do not leave children or animals inside
parked vehicles in hot weather. Interior
heat build-up may cause serious injury or
death.
CAUTION!
An unlocked vehicle is an invitation for
thieves. Always remove key fob from the
vehicle and lock all doors when leaving the
vehicle unattended.

REMOTE STARTING
SYSTEM — IF EQUIPPED
This system uses the key fob to
start the engine conveniently from
outside the vehicle while still main-
taining security. The system has a
range of 328 ft (100 m).
The Remote Starting System also activates
the Climate Control, vented seats (if
equipped) in temperatures above 80°F
(26.7°C), the heated seats (if equipped), and
heated steering wheel (if equipped) in
temperatures below 40°F (4.4°C). Refer to
“Heated Seats” in “Getting To Know Your
Vehicle” in the Owner’s Manual for further
information.
NOTE:
The vehicle must be equipped with an
automatic transmission to be equipped
with Remote Start.
Obstructions between the vehicle and key
fob may reduce this range.
How To Use Remote Start
Push the Remote Start button on the key
fob twice within five seconds. Pushing the
Remote Start button a third time shuts the
engine off.
To drive the vehicle, push the unlock
button, and place the ignition in the ON/
RUN position.
With remote start, the engine will only run
for 15 minutes (timeout) unless the igni -
tion key is placed in the ON/RUN position.
The vehicle must be started with the key
after two consecutive timeouts.
All of the following conditions must be met
before the engine will remote start:
Gear Selector in PARK
Doors closed
Hood closed
Swing Gate closed
Hazard switch off
Brake switch inactive (brake pedal not
pushed)
Battery at an acceptable charge level
System not disabled from previous remote
start event
Vehicle alarm system indicator flashing
Ignition in STOP/OFF position
Fuel level meets minimum requirement
All removable doors must not be removed
Malfunction indicator light not illuminated
WARNING!
Do not start or run an engine in a closed
garage or confined area. Exhaust gas
contains Carbon Monoxide (CO) which is
odorless and colorless. Carbon Monoxide
is poisonous and can cause serious
injury or death when inhaled.
Keep key fobs away from children. Oper -
ation of the Remote Start System,
windows, door locks or other controls
could cause serious injury or death.

To Enter Remote Start Mode
Push and release the Remote Start button on
the key fob twice within five seconds. The
vehicle doors will lock, the turn signals will
flash twice, and the horn will chirp twice.
Then the engine will start, and the vehicle
will remain in the Remote Start mode for a
15 minute cycle.
NOTE:
If an engine fault is present or fuel level is
low, the vehicle will start and then shut
down in 10 seconds.
The park lamps will turn on and remain on
during Remote Start mode.
For security, power window operation is
disabled when the vehicle is in the
Remote Start mode.
The engine can be started two consecutive
times (two 15 minute cycles) with the key
fob. However, the ignition must be placed
in the ON/RUN position before you can
repeat the start sequence for a third cycle.
VEHICLE SECURITY ALARM —
IF EQUIPPED
The vehicle security alarm monitors the
vehicle doors for unauthorized entry and the
ignition switch for unauthorized operation.
When the alarm is activated, the interior
switches for door locks are disabled. The
vehicle security alarm provides both audible
and visible signals. If something triggers the
alarm, the vehicle security alarm will provide
the following audible and visible signals: the
horn will pulse, the park lamps and/or turn
signals will flash, and the vehicle security
light in the instrument cluster will flash.
To Arm The System
Follow these steps to arm the vehicle secu-
rity alarm:
1. Make sure the vehicle’s ignition is placed in the OFF position. Refer to "Starting
The Engine" in "Starting And Operating"
for further information. 2. Perform one of the following methods to
lock the vehicle:
Push lock on the interior power doorlock switch with the driver and/or
passenger door open.
Push the lock button on the exterior Passive Entry Door Handle with a valid
key fob available in the same exterior

NOTE:
The driver's door key cylinder cannot arm
or disarm the vehicle security alarm.
When the vehicle security alarm is armed,
the interior power door lock switches will
not unlock the doors.
The vehicle security alarm is designed to
protect your vehicle. However, you can create
conditions where the system will give you a
false alarm. If one of the previously
described arming sequences has occurred,
the vehicle security alarm will arm regardless
of whether you are in the vehicle or not. If
you remain in the vehicle and open a door,
the alarm will sound. If this occurs, disarm
the vehicle security alarm.
If the vehicle security alarm is armed and the
battery becomes disconnected, the vehicle
security alarm will remain armed when the
battery is reconnected; the exterior lights will
flash, and the horn will sound. If this occurs,
disarm the vehicle security alarm.
PREMIUM VEHICLE
SECURITY ALARM — IF
EQUIPPED
This premium vehicle security alarm moni -
tors the vehicle doors, hood, swing gate and
ignition for unauthorized operation. When
the alarm is armed, the interior switches for
door locks, and power swing gate are
disabled. If something triggers the alarm, the
vehicle security alarm will provide the
following audible and visible signals: the
horn will pulse, and the park lamps and/or
turn signals will flash.
To Arm The System
Follow these steps to arm the security alarm:
1. Make sure the vehicle ignition system is OFF.
2. Perform one of the following methods to lock the vehicle:
Push lock on the interior power doorlock switch with the driver and/or
passenger door open.
Push the lock button on the exterior Passive Entry Door Handle with a valid
key fob available in the same exterior
zone. Refer to “Keyless Enter-N-Go” in
“Doors” in this chapter for further
information.
Push the lock button on the key fob.
3. If any doors are open, close them.
NOTE:
Once the security system is armed, it
remains in that state until you disarm it by
following either of the disarming proce-
dures described. If a power loss occurs
after arming the system, you must disarm
the system after restoring power to prevent
alarm activation.
The ultrasonic intrusion sensor (motion
detector) actively monitors your vehicle
every time you arm the security system. If
you prefer, you can turn off the ultrasonic
intrusion sensor when arming the security
system. To do so, push the lock button on
the key fob three times within 15 seconds
of arming the system (while the vehicle
security light is flashing rapidly).

17
To Disarm The System
The vehicle security alarm can be disarmed
using any of the following methods:
Push the unlock button on the key fob.
Grasp the Passive Entry Unlock Door
Handle. Refer to "Keyless Enter-N-Go" in
“Doors” in this chapter for further infor-
mation.
Cycle the vehicle ignition system out of
the OFF position by pushing the Keyless
Enter-N-Go START/STOP ignition button
(requires at least one valid key fob in the
vehicle).
NOTE:
The driver's door key cylinder and the lift -
gate button on the key fob cannot arm or
disarm the vehicle security alarm.
The vehicle security alarm remains armed
during power liftgate entry. Pushing the
liftgate button will not disarm the vehicle
security alarm. If someone enters the
vehicle through the liftgate and opens any
door the alarm will sound.
When the vehicle security alarm is armed,
the interior power door lock switches will
not unlock the doors.
The ultrasonic intrusion sensor (motion
detector) actively monitors your vehicle
every time you arm the security system. If
you prefer, you can turn off the ultrasonic
intrusion sensor when arming the security
system. To do so, push the lock button on
the key fob three times within 15 seconds
of arming the system (while the vehicle
security light is flashing rapidly).
The vehicle security alarm is designed to
protect your vehicle; however, you can avoid
conditions where the system may give you a
nuisance alarm. Conditions include any
person, or pet, left inside the vehicle or
hanging items that may sway (e.g. from rear
view mirrors, visors, etc). Windows and roof
panels should be closed to prevent wind,
leaves, and other debris from blowing into
the vehicle. Items left in the vehicle that may
shift over a period of time (e.g. plastic bags,
clothes, or groceries), could result in a
nuisance alarm. Additionally, extreme environmental condi
-
tions (wind, rain, hail, thunder, etc.), or
extreme noise (audio systems, traffic condi -
tions, trains, etc.), or direct impacts to the
vehicle may result in a nuisance alarming
condition.
If one of the previously described arming
sequences has occurred, the vehicle security
alarm will arm regardless of whether you are
in the vehicle or not. If you remain in the
vehicle and open a door, the alarm will
sound. If this occurs, disarm the vehicle
security alarm.
If the vehicle security alarm is armed and the
battery becomes disconnected, the vehicle
security alarm will remain armed when the
battery is reconnected; the exterior lights will
flash, the horn will sound. If this occurs,
disarm the vehicle security alarm.
Security System Manual Override
The system will not arm if you lock the doors
using the manual door lock.

Automatic High Beam — If Equipped
The Automatic High Beam Headlamp Control
system provides increased forward lighting at
night by automating high beam control
through the use of a digital camera mounted
on the vehicle’s header. This camera detects
vehicle specific light and automatically
switches from high beams to low beams until
the approaching vehicle is out of view.
NOTE:
The Automatic High Beam Headlamp
Control can be turned on or off by selecting
“ON” under “Auto High Beam” within your
Uconnect settings, as well as turning the
headlight switch to the AUTO position and
placing the multifunction lever in the high
beam position. Refer to “Uconnect Settings”
in “Multimedia” in the Owner’s Manual for
further information.
Broken, muddy, or obstructed headlights
and taillights of vehicles in the field of
view will cause headlights to remain on
longer (closer to the vehicle). Also, dirt,
film, and other obstructions on the wind-
shield or camera lens will cause the
system to function improperly.
Flash-To-Pass
You can signal another vehicle with your
headlights by lightly pulling the multifunc -
tion lever toward you. This will cause the
high beam headlights to turn on, and remain
on, until the lever is released.
Automatic Headlights — If Equipped
This system automatically turns the head -
lights on or off according to ambient light
levels. To turn the system on, rotate the
headlight switch clockwise to the last detent
for automatic headlight operation. When the
system is on, the headlight time delay
feature is also on. This means the headlights
will stay on for up to 90 seconds after you
place the ignition into the OFF position. To
turn the automatic system off, move the
headlight switch out of the AUTO position.
NOTE:
The engine must be running before the head -
lights will come on in the automatic mode.
Front And Rear Fog Lights — If Equipped
The fog light switches are built into the head -
light switch. Fog Light Switch Location
To activate the front fog lights, push the
upper half of the headlight switch. To turn
off the front fog lights, push the upper half
of the headlight switch a second time.
To activate the rear fog lights, push the lower
half of the headlight switch. To turn off the
rear fog lights, push the lower half of the
headlight switch a second time.
NOTE:
To turn on the rear fog lamps, the low beam
lamps or front fog lamps must first be active.
An indicator light in the instrument cluster
illuminates when the fog lights are turned on.
