Windscreen wipersWhen the wiper blade is not in a nor-
mal position, place the ignition switch
in the ON position. The wiper blade
will return to the normal position.
Following are cases a wiper blade
may be in an abnormal position.
- The wiper blade may be positioned
abnormally when in an automatic
vehicle wash. (Ignition switch in theOFF position)
- The wiper blade may be positioned abnormally when moved by force.
- The passenger's side wiper is on top of the driver's side wiper.
(Normal position : The driver's side
wiper must be on top of the pas-
senger's side wiper.)CAUTION
When washing the vehicle, set
the wiper switch in the off posi-tion to stop the auto wiper oper- ation.
The wiper may operate and bedamaged if the switch is set inthe AUTO mode whilst washingthe vehicle.
Do not remove the sensor coverlocated on the upper end of the driver side windscreen glass.Damage to system parts couldoccur and may not be covered by your vehicle warranty.
When starting the vehicle inwinter, set the wiper switch inthe off position. Otherwise, wipers may operate and ice may damage the windscreen wiperblades. Always remove all snowand ice and defrost the wind-screen properly prior to operat- ing the windscreen wipers.■ Normal position

When there is a problem with the
motor to operate the wiper blades,
the wiper blades will stop and acti-
vate the Fail Safety Function in the
ignition switch ON position or whilst
driving. Fail Safety Function will
operate as follows:
- HI or Mode 2 (5 minutes) LO or
Mode 1 (5 minutes) INT or Mode
--- (5 minutes) OFF or O (Stop) In a rainy day if the windscreen glass
gets dry when driving through a long
tunnel, the wiping velocity mayreduce to protect the motor and
blade. It will return to its normal state, after passing through the tunnel.
In case of overload the wiper motor that the function adjusts speed auto-
matically in vehicle. This feature pre-
vents damage to the wiper motor and
blade. In case of removal overload
conditions, it will return to its normal
position. By the pressure of the wind
at high speed wiper blades can be
moved upwards. This prevents dam-
age due to wiper motor overload bythe pressure of the wind.
Operating the wiper blade and wiper
switch operates normally, it will
return to its normal position.CAUTION
If wipers do not return to normal
position, you should remove thewax, water repellent, oil and other debris into S and then checkwiper operation again.
CAUTION
After remove the overload con-dition, if the problem of wiperblades or operating the motor remains, have the systemchecked by a professional work-shop. Kia recommends to visitan authorised Kia dealer/service partner.
❈
❈ Overload condition
- In a rainy day when driving through a long tunnel
- When wax car wash
- Water-repellent coating (coated glass)
- Cleaning the windscreen cleaners
- Excessive blade wear etc.

Features of your vehicle
When the operation of the passen-
ger’s side wiper blade is limited by
accumulated snow on the cowl top
cover, operating angle of the driver’s
side wiper blade will be reduced to
avoid collision between the wiper
blades. Operating under a reduced
angle, the driver's side blade stop
position will be different.
✽✽NOTICE
If you do not remove the snow
and/or ice before using the wiper
and washer, it may damage the
wiper and washer system.
Windscreen washers (front) In the O (Off) position, pull the lever
gently toward you to spray washer
fluid on the windscreen and to run
the wipers 1-3 cycles. Use this function when the wind-
screen is dirty.
The spray and wiper operation will
continue until you release the lever.
If the washer does not work, check
the washer fluid level. If the fluid level
is not sufficient, you will need to add
appropriate non-abrasive windscreen
washer fluid to the washer reservoir.
The reservoir filler neck is located in
the front of the engine compartment
on the driver side.
CAUTION
To prevent possible damage to
the washer pump, do not oper-ate the washer when the fluid reservoir is empty.

Headlight washer (if equipped)
If your vehicle is equipped with the
headlight washer it will operate at the
same time when you operate the
windscreen washer. It will operate
when the headlight switch is in thefirst or second position and the igni-
tion switch or engine start/stop but-ton is in the ON position.
The washer fluid will be sprayed on
to the headlights.
✽✽
NOTICE
Check the headlight washers peri- odically to confirm that the wash-
er fluid is being sprayed properly
onto the headlight lenses.
The headlight washer can be oper- ated 15 minutes after being oper-
ated last time.

WARNING
Do not use the washer in freez-
ing temperatures without firstwarming the windscreen with
the defrosters; the washer solu-
tion could freeze on the wind-
screen and obscure your vision.
CAUTION
To prevent possible damage to the wipers or windscreen,do not operate the wiperswhen the windscreen is dry.
To prevent damage to the wiper blades, do not use petrol, kerosene, paint thinner, or other solvents on or near them.
To prevent damage to the wiper arms and other compo-nents, do not attempt to movethe wipers manually.

Driving your vehicle

6
Keep your headlights clean and
properly aimed on vehicles not equipped with the automatic head-
light aiming feature. Dirty or
improperly aimed headlights will
make it much more difficult to seeat night.
Avoid staring directly at the head- lights of oncoming vehicles. You
could be temporarily blinded, and it
will take several seconds for your
eyes to readjust to the darkness. Driving in the rain
Rain and wet roads can make driving
dangerous, especially if you’re not
prepared for the slick pavement.
Here are a few things to consider
when driving in the rain:
A heavy rainfall will make it harder
to see and will increase the dis-
tance needed to stop your vehicle,
so slow down.
Keep your windscreen wiping equipment in good shape. Replace
your windscreen wiper blades when
they show signs of streaking ormissing areas on the windscreen.
If your tyres are not in good condi- tion, making a quick stop on wet
pavement can cause a skid and
possibly lead to an accident. Be
sure your tyres are in good shape.
Turn on your headlights to make it easier for others to see you.
Driving too fast through large pud- dles can affect your brakes. If you
must go through puddles, try to
drive through them slowly. If you believe you may have gotten
your brakes wet, apply them lightly
whilst driving until normal braking
operation returns.
Driving in flooded areas
Avoid driving through flooded areas
unless you are sure the water is nohigher than the bottom of the wheel
hub. Drive through any water slowly.
Allow adequate stopping distance
because brake performance may be
affected.
After driving through water, dry the
brakes by gently applying them sev-
eral times whilst the vehicle is mov-
ing slowly.
Driving off-road
Drive carefully off-road because your
vehicle may be damaged by rocks or
roots of trees. Become familiar with
the off-road conditions where you
are going to drive before you begin
driving.

WIPER BLADES
Blade inspection
✽✽ NOTICE
Commercial hot waxes applied by
automatic car washes have been
known to make the windscreen diffi-
cult to clean.
Contamination of either the wind-
screen or the wiper blades with for-
eign matter can reduce the effective-
ness of the windscreen wipers.Common sources of contamination
are insects, tree sap, and hot wax
treatments used by some commer-
cial car washes. If the blades are not
wiping properly, clean both the win-
dow and the blades with a good
cleaner or mild detergent, and rinse
thoroughly with clean water. Blade replacement When the wipers no longer clean
adequately, the blades may be worn
or cracked, and require replacement.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the wiper
blades, do not use petrol, kerosene, paint thinner, or other solvents on or near them.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the wiperarms or other components, donot attempt to move the wipersmanually.
CAUTION
The use of a non-specified wiper blade could result inwiper malfunction and failure.
