Introduction
Gasoline engine
Unleaded
For Europe
For the optimal vehicle performance, we
recommend you use unleaded gasoline
which has an octane rating of RON(Research Octane Number) 95 / AKI
(Anti Knock Index) 91 or higher. (Do not
use methanol blended fuels)
You may use unleaded gasoline with an
octane rating of RON 91~94 / AKI 87~90
but it may result in slight performance
reduction of the vehicle.
Except Europe
Your new Kia vehicle is designed to use
only unleaded fuel having an Octane
Rating of RON (Research Octane
Number) 91 / AKI (Anti-Knock Index) 87
or higher. (Do not use methanol blendedfuels)
Your new vehicle is designed to obtain
maximum performance with UNLEADED
FUEL, as well as minimize exhaust emis-
sions and spark plug fouling.
Leaded (if equipped)
For some countries, your vehicle is
designed to use leaded gasoline. When
you are going to use leaded gasoline, we
recommend that you ask an authorizedKia dealer whether leaded gasoline in
your vehicle is available or not. Octane Rating of leaded gasoline is
same with unleaded one.
FUEL REQUIREMENTS
WARNING
• Do not "top off" after the nozzle automatically shuts off when refueling.
Always check that the fuel cap is installed securely to prevent fuel
spillage in the event of an acci-dent.
CAUTION
NEVER USE LEADED FUEL. The
use of leaded fuel is detrimental to
the catalytic converter and willdamage the engine control sys-tem’s oxygen sensor and affect emission control.
Never add any fuel system cleaningagents to the fuel tank other thanwhat has been specified. (We recom-mend that you consult an authorized
Kia dealer for details.)

WARNING - Rear seatbacks
The rear seatback must be securely latched. If not, passen-
gers and objects could be thrown
forward resulting in serious
injury or death in the event of a
sudden stop or collision.
Luggage and other cargo should be laid flat in the cargo area. If
objects are large, heavy, or must
be piled, they must be secured.
Under no circumstances should
cargo be piled higher than the
seatbacks. Failure to follow thesewarnings could result in serious
injury or death in the event of a
sudden stop, collision or rollover.
No passenger should ride in the cargo area or sit or lie on folded
seatbacks while the vehicle is
moving. All passengers must be
properly seated in seats and
restrained properly while riding.
When resetting the seatback to the upright position, make sure it
is securely latched by pushing it
forward and backwards.
(Continued)(Continued)
To avoid the possibility of burns,do not remove the carpet in the
cargo area. Emission control
devices beneath this floor gener-ate high temperatures.
WARNING
After adjusting the seat, always
check that it is securely locked into
place by attempting to move the
seat forward or backward without
using the lock release lever.
Sudden or unexpected movement
of the driver's seat could cause you
to lose control of the vehicle result-ing in an accident.
WARNING
Use extreme caution so that hands or other objects are not
caught in the seat mechanisms
while the seat is moving.
Do not put a cigarette lighter on the floor or seat. When you oper-
ate the seat, gas may gush out of
the lighter and cause fire.
If there are occupants in the rear seats, be careful while adjusting
the front seat position.
Use extreme caution when picking small objects trapped under theseats or between the seat and the
center console. Your hands might

Pre-tensioner seat belt (if equipped)
Your vehicle is equipped with driver's and front passenger's pre-tensioner seat
belts. The purpose of the pre-tensioner is
to make sure that the seat belts fit tightly
against the occupant's body in certain
collisions. The pre-tensioner seat belts
may be activated in crashes where the
collision is severe enough. When the vehicle stops suddenly, or if
the occupant tries to lean forward too
quickly, the seat belt retractor will lock
into position. In certain collisions, the pre-
tensioner will activate and pull the seatbelt into tighter contact against the occu-
pant's body.
If the system senses excessive tension
on the driver or passenger's seat belt
when the pre-tensioner activates, theload limiter inside the pre-tensioner willrelease some of the pressure on the
affected seat belt. (if equipped)
The seat belt pre-tensioner system con-
sists mainly of the following components.
Their locations are shown in the illustra-tion:
1. SRS air bag warning light
2. Retractor pre-tensioner assembly
3. SRS control module

WARNING
For your safety, be sure that the belt webbing is not loose or twisted and
always sit properly on your seat.

✽✽NOTICE
Both the driver's and front passenger's pre-tensioner seat belts will be activated
in certain collisions. The pre-tensioner
seat belts can be activated, where the
frontal collision is severe enough,
together with the air bags.
When the pre-tensioner seat belts are
activated, a loud noise may be heard
and fine dust, which may appear to be
smoke, may be visible in the passenger
compartment. These are normal oper-
ating conditions and are not hazardous.
Although it is harmless, the fine dust may cause skin irritation and should
not be breathed for prolonged periods.
Wash all exposed skin areas thorough-
ly after an accident in which the pre-
tensioner seat belts were activated.
Because the sensor that activates the SRS air bag is connected with the pre-
tensioner seat belt, the SRS air bag
warning light on the instrument
panel will illuminate for approximate-
ly 6 seconds after the ignition switch
has been turned to the ON position,
and then it should turn off.WARNING
To obtain maximum benefit from a pre-tensioner seat belt:
1. The seat belt must be worn cor- rectly and adjusted to the proper
position. Please read and follow
all of the important information
and precautions about your vehi-
cle’s occupant safety features –
including seat belts and air bags –
that are provided in this manual.
2. Be sure you and your passengers always wear seat belts properly.CAUTION
If the pre-tensioner seat belt is not
working properly, this warning light
will illuminate even if there is no malfunction of the SRS air bag. Ifthe SRS air bag warning light doesnot illuminate when the ignition
switch is turned to ON, or if itremains illuminated after illuminat- ing for approximately 6 seconds, or
if it illuminates while the vehicle is being driven, we recommend thatthe system be inspected by anauthorized Kia dealer.
