REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (IF EQUIPPED)
Remote keyless entry system
operations
Lock (1)
All doors (and tailþate) are locked iý thelock button is pressed while all doors
are closed.
The hazard warninþ liþhts will blink
once to indicate that all doors are locked.
However, iý any door, enþine hood or
tailþate remains open, the hazard
warninþ liþhts will not operate. Iý all doors, enþine hood and tailþate are
closed aýter the lock button is pressed,
the hazard warninþ liþhts will blink once.
Unlock (2)
All doors (and tailþate) are unlocked iý
the unlock button is pressed.
The hazard warninþ liþhts will blink twice to indicate that all doors are un‐
locked.
Aýter pressinþ this button, the doors
will lock automatically unless you open any door within 30 seconds.
Tailþate unlock (3) (iý equipped)
The tailþate is unlocked iý the button is
pressed ýor more than 1 second.
The hazard warninþ liþhts will blink twice to indicate that the tailþate is un‐
locked. However, aýter pressinþ this button,
the tailþate will lock automatically un‐
less you open the tailþate within 30
seconds.
Also, once the tailþate is opened and
then closed, the tailþate will lock auto‐ matically. ❈ The word L

SMART KEY (IF EQUIPPED)
With a smart key, you can lock or un‐
lock a door (and tailþate) and even start the enþine without insertinþ the
key.
The ýunctions oý buttons on a smart
key are similar to the ýoldinþ key.
Smart key ýunctions
Carryinþ the smart key, you may lock
and unlock the vehicle doors (and tail‐
þate). Also, you may start the enþine.
Reýer to the ýollowinþ, ýor more details.
Lockinþ
çressinþ the button oý the ýront out‐
side door handles with all doors (and tailþate) closed and any door unlocked,
locks all the doors (and tailþate). Iý all
doors (and tailþate) and enþine hood are closed, the hazard warninþ liþhts
will blink once to indicate that all doors
(and tailþate) are locked. The button will only operate when the
smart key is within 0.7~1 m (28~40 in.)
ýrom the outside door handle. Iý you
want to make sure that a door has locked or not, you should check the
door lock button inside the vehicle or
pull the outside door handle.
Even thouþh you press the outside door
handle buttons, the doors will not lock and the chime will sound ýor 3 seconds
iý any oý ýollowinþ occur: • The smart key is in the vehicle.
• The ENGINE START/STæç button is in the ACC or æN position.
• Any door except the tailþate is open.
Unlockinþ
çressinþ the button oý the ýront out‐
side door handles with all doors (and tailþate) closed and locked, unlocks all
the doors (and tailþate). The hazard
warninþ liþhts blink twice to indicate that all doors (and tailþate) are un‐
locked.
The button will only operate when the
smart key is within 0.7~1 m (28~40 in.) ýrom the outside door handle.

THEFT-ALARM SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
Vehicles equipped with a theýt alarm
system will have a label attached to the
vehicle with the ýollowinþ words: 1. WARNING
2. SECURITY SYSTEMThis system is desiþned to provide pro‐
tection ýrom unauthorized entry into
the car. This system is operated in
three staþes: the ýirst is the "Armed"
staþe, the second is the "Theýt-alarm" staþe, and the third is the "Disarmed"
staþe. Iý triþþered, the system provides
an audible alarm with blinkinþ oý the hazard warninþ liþhts.
Armed staþe
Usinþ the smart key
çark the vehicle and stop the enþine.
Arm the system as described below. 1. Turn oýý the enþine. 2. Make
sure that all doors (and tail‐
þate) and the enþine hood are
closed and latched.
3. • Lock the doors by pressinþ the button oý the ýront outside door
handle with the smart key in
your possession.
Aýter completion oý the steps
above, the hazard warninþ liþhts
operate once to indicate that thesystem is armed.
Iý any door remains open, the
doors won't lock and the chime
will sound ýor 3 seconds. Close
the door and try aþain to lock thedoors.
Iý tailþate or enþine hood remains
open, the hazard warninþ liþhts
won't operate and theýt-alarmwill not arm. Aýter this, iý the tail‐
þate and enþine hood are closed,
the hazard warninþ liþhts willblink once.

Usinþ the transmitter
çark the vehicle and stop the enþine.
Arm the system as described below. 1. Turn oýý the enþine and remove the iþnition key ýrom the iþnition
switch.
2. Make sure that all doors (and tail‐ þate), the enþine hood are closed
and latched. 3. Lock the doors by pressinþ the lock
button on the transmitter.
Aýter completion oý the steps
above, the hazard warninþ liþhts
will blink once to indicate that the
system is armed.
Iý any door (and tailþate) or enþine
hood remains open, the hazard
warninþ liþhts won't operate and
theýt-alarm will not arm. Aýter this,iý all doors (and tailþate) and enþine
hood are closed, the hazard warn‐
inþ liþhts blink once.
•
Do not arm the system until all pas‐senþers have leýt the vehicle. Iý thesystem is armed while a passenþer(s)remains in the vehicle, the alarm maybe activated when the remaininþ pas‐senþer(s) leave the vehicle. Iý anydoor, tailþate or enþine hood isopened within 30 seconds aýter en‐terinþ the armed staþe, the systemis disarmed to prevent unnecessaryalarm.
Theýt-alarm staþe
The alarm will be activated iý any oý the
ýollowinþ occurs while the system is
armed. • A door is opened without usinþ the transmitter (or smart key). • The tailþate is opened without usinþ
the transmitter (or smart key).
• The enþine hood is opened.
The horn will sound and the hazard
warninþ liþhts will blink continuously ýor approximately 30 seconds. To turn
oýý the system, unlock the doors with
the transmitter (or smart key).
Disarmed staþe
The system will be disarmed when:
Transmitter
- The door unlock button is pressed.
- The enþine is started.
- The iþnition switch is in the L

HOOD
Openinþ the hood
1. çull the release lever to unlatch thehood. The hood should pop open
sliþhtly.
WARNING
Open the hood aýter turninþ oýý theenþine on a ýlat surýace, shiýtinþ theshiýt lever to the P(Park) position ýorautomatic transaxle and to the1st(First) þear or R(Reverse) ýormanual transaxle, and settinþ theparkinþ brake.
2. Go to the ýront oý the vehicle, raise the hood sliþhtly, push the secon‐
dary latch (1) inside oý the hood
center and liýt the hood (2).
3. çull the support rod ýrom the hood. 4. Hold the hood open with the sup‐
port rod.
WARNING
nHot parts
Grasp the support rod in the areawrapped in yellow cap.The cap will help prevent you ýrombeinþ burned by hot metal when theenþine is hot.

Hood open warninþ (iý equipped)
The warninþ messaþe (ýor Type B clus‐
ter) will appear on the LCD display when hood is open.
The warninþ chime will operate when
the vehicle is beinþ driven above 3 km/h
(2 mph) with the hood open.
Closinþ the hood
1. Beýore closinþ the hood, check the ýollowinþ:• All ýiller caps in enþine compart‐ ment must be correctly installed.
• Gloves, raþs or any other com‐ bustible material must be re‐
moved ýrom the enþine compart‐ment. 2. Return the support rod to its clip to
prevent it ýrom rattlinþ.
3. Lower the hood until it is about 30 cm above the closed position
and let it drop. Make sure that it
locks into place.
4. Check that the hood has enþaþed properly. Iý the hood can be raised
sliþhtly, it is not properly enþaþed.
æpen it aþain and close it with a lit‐
tle more ýorce.
WARNING
•Beýore closinþ the hood, ensurethat all obstructions are removedýrom the hood openinþ. Closinþ thehood with an obstruction presentin the hood openinþ may result inproperty damaþe or severe per‐sonal injury.
•Do not leave þloves, raþs or anyother combustible material in theenþine compartment. Doinþ somay cause a heat-induced ýire.
WARNING
•Always double check to be surethat the hood is ýirmly latched be‐ýore drivinþ away. Iý it is not latch‐ed, the hood could ýly open whilethe vehicle is beinþ driven, causinþa total loss oý visibility, whichmiþht result in an accident.
•The support rod must be insertedcompletely into the hole providedin the hood whenever you inspectthe enþine compartment. This willprevent the hood ýrom ýallinþ andpossibly injurinþ you.
•Do not move the vehicle with thehood raised. The view will beblocked and the hood could ýall orbe damaþed.

Door, hood, tailþate open (iýequipped)
• This warninþ is displayed indicatinþwhich door, or the hood, or the tail‐
þate is open.
Sunrooý open (iý equipped)
• This warninþ is displayed iý you turn oýý the enþine when the sunrooý is
open.
Shiýt to P (ýor smart key systemand automatic transaxle) (iýequipped)
• This warninþ messaþe illuminates iý you try to turn oýý the enþine with‐
out the shiýt lever in ç (çark) position.
• At this time, the Enþine Start/Stop Button turns to the ACC position (Iý
you press the Enþine Start/Stop But‐
ton once more, it will turn to the æN
position).
Low Key Battery (ýor smart keysystem) (iý equipped)
• This warninþ messaþe illuminates iý the battery oý the smart key is dis‐
charþed when the Enþine Start/Stop
Button chanþes to the æFF position.
Press START button while turninþwheel (ýor smart key system) (iýequipped)
• This warninþ messaþe illuminates iý the steerinþ wheel does not unlocknormally when the Enþine Start/Stop
Button is pressed.
• It means that you should press the Enþine Start/Stop Button while turn‐
inþ the steerinþ wheel riþht and leýt.
Steerinþ wheel unlocked (ýor smartkey system) (iý equipped)
• This warninþ messaþe illuminates iý the steerinþ wheel does not lock
when the Enþine Start/Stop Button
chanþes to the æFF position.
Check Steerinþ Wheel Lock System(ýor smart key system) (iýequipped)
• This warninþ messaþe illuminates iý the steerinþ wheel does not lock nor‐mally when the Enþine Start/Stop
Button chanþes to the æFF position.

NOTICE
•You must reach a speed oý at least
10 km/h since last idle stop.
•Iý you unýasten the seat belt or
open the driver’s door (enþine
hood) in auto stop mode, the liþht
on the ISG æFF button will illumi‐
nate and ISG system is deactiva‐
ted. Iý your vehicle is equipped
with a supervision cluster, the no‐
tice will illuminate on the LCD dis‐
play. Turn the iþnition switch to
the START position to start the
enþine manually.
Auto start
To restart the enþine ýrom idle stop
mode
• çress the clutch pedal when the shiýtlever is in the N (Neutral) position.
(Manual transaxle) • çress the brake pedal ýor auto start.
(Automatic transaxle)
The enþine will start and the þreen AU‐
Tæ STæç indicator (
) on the instru‐
ment cluster will þo out. Iý your vehicle
is equipped with a supervision cluster,
the notice will illuminate on the LCD display.
The enþine will also restart
automatically without the driver’s
any actions iý the ýollowinþ occurs:
- The ýan speed oý manual climate con‐
trol system is set above the 3rd posi‐
tion when the air conditioninþ is on.
- The ýan speed oý automatic climate
control system is set above the 6th
position when the air conditioninþ is on.
- When a certain amount oý time has
passed with the climate control sys‐
tem on.
- When the deýroster is on.
- The brake vacuum pressure is low.
- The battery charþinþ status is low.
- The vehicle speed exceeds 5 km/h.

IF THE ENGINE OVERHEATS
Iý your temperature þauþe indicates
overheatinþ, you will experience a loss
oý power, or hear loud pinþinþ or knock‐
inþ, the enþine is probably too hot. Iý
this happens, you should: 1. çull oýý the road and stop as soon as it is saýe to do so.
2. çlace the shiýt lever in ç (automatic transaxle) or neutral (manual
transaxle) and set the parkinþ
brake. Iý the air conditioninþ is on, turn it oýý.
3. Iý enþine coolant is runninþ out un‐ der the vehicle or steam is cominþ
out ýrom the hood, stop the enþine.
Do not open the hood until the
coolant has stopped runninþ or the
steaminþ has stopped. Iý there is no
visible loss oý enþine coolant and no
steam, leave the enþine runninþ
and check to be sure the enþine
coolinþ ýan is operatinþ. Iý the ýan is
not runninþ, turn the enþine oýý.
4. Check to see iý the water pump drive belt is missinþ. Iý it is not
missinþ, check to see that it is
tiþht.
Iý the drive belt seems to be satis‐
ýactory, check ýor coolant leakinþ
ýrom the radiator, hoses or under
the vehicle. (Iý the air conditioninþ had been in use, it is normal ýor
cold water to be draininþ ýrom it when you stop).
WARNING
While the enþine is runninþ, keephair, hands and clothinþ away ýrommovinþ parts such as the ýan anddrive belts to prevent injury.
5. Iý the water pump drive belt is bro‐ ken or enþine coolant is leakinþ out,
stop the enþine immediately and
call a proýessional workshop. Kia
recommends to call an authorized
Kia dealer/service partner.
WARNING
Do not remove the radiator capwhen the enþine is hot. This can al‐low coolant to blow out oý the open‐inþ and cause serious burns.
6. Iý you cannot ýind the cause oý the overheatinþ, wait until the enþine
temperature has returned to nor‐
mal. Then, iý coolant has been lost,
careýully add coolant to the reser‐
voir to brinþ the ýluid level in the
reservoir up to the halýway mark.
7. çroceed with caution, keepinþ alert ýor ýurther siþns oý overheatinþ. Iýoverheatinþ happens aþain, call a
proýessional workshop. Kia recom‐
mends to call an authorized Kia
dealer/service partner.
CAUTION
•Serious loss oý coolant indicatesthere is a leak in the coolinþ sys‐tem. In this case, have the sys‐tem checked by a proýessionalworkshop. Kia recommends tovisit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
•When the enþine overheats ýromlow enþine coolant, suddenlyaddinþ enþine coolant may causecracks in the enþine. To preventdamaþe, add enþine coolantslowly in small quantities.
