NOTICE
The PASSENGER AIR BAG “OFF”
indicator illuminates for about 4 sec-
onds after the ignition switch is
turned to the ON position or after
the engine is started. If the front
passenger seat is occupied, the occu-
pant detection sensor will then clas-
sify the front passenger after several
more seconds.
Any child age 13 and under should
ride in the rear seat. Children too
large for child restraints should use
the available lap/shoulder belts. No
matter what type of crash, children of
all ages are safer when restrained in
the rear seat. If the occupant detection system is
not working properly, the SRS air bag
warning light on the instrument
panel will illuminate because the pas-
senger's front air bag is connected
with the occupant detection system. If
there is a malfunction of the occupant
detection system, the PASSENGER
AIR BAG “OFF” indicator will not illu-
minate and the passenger's front air
bag will inflate in frontal impact crash-
es even if there is no occupant in the
front passenger's seat.
✽ ✽
NOTICE
Air bags can only be used once - have
an authorized Kia dealer replace the
air bag immediately after deployment.
WARNING - ODS
Interference
Do not place a heavy load or an active electronic device (ex.
laptop computer, after market
DMB/navigation/satellite
audio, video game machine,

Do not hang any items such as seatback table on the front
passenger seatback.
Do not place feet on the front passenger seatback.
Do not place any items under the front passenger seat.
Do not place sharp objects on the front passenger seat.
These may damage the occu-
pant detection system, if they
puncture the seat cushion.
Do not spill any liquids on the seat.
(Continued)(Continued)
Any of the above could interfere
with the proper operation of the
ODS sensor thereby increasing
the risk of an injury in an acci-
dent.

Using the wrong battery can cause the transmitter to malfunction. Be
sure to use the correct battery.
An inappropriately dis- posed battery can be harm-
ful to the environment and
human health. Dispose the
battery according to your
local law(s) or regulation.
Immobilizer system
Your vehicle may be equipped with
an electronic engine immobilizer sys-
tem to reduce the risk of unautho-
rized vehicle use.
Your immobilizer system is com-
prised of a small transponder in the
ignition key and electronic devices
inside the vehicle.
With the immobilizer system, when-
ever you insert your ignition key into
the ignition switch and turn it to ON,
it checks and determines and verifies
that the ignition key is valid.
If the key is determined to be valid,
the engine will start.
If the key is determined to be invalid,
the engine will not start.

Your Immobilizer password is a cus-
tomer unique password and should
be kept confidential. Do not leave this
number anywhere in your vehicle.

avoid a starting malfunction.
Do not put metal accessories near
the ignition switch.
Metal accessories may interrupt the
transponder signal and may prevent
the engine from being started.
If you need additional keys or lose
your keys, consult an authorized Kia
dealer. This device complies with Part 15
of the FCC rules.
Operation is subject to the following
two conditions:
1. This device may not cause harm-
ful interference, and
2. This device must accept any inter- ference received, including inter-
ference that may cause undesired
operation.
✽ ✽NOTICE
Changes or modifications not
expressly approved by the party
responsible for compliance could
void the user's authority to operate
the equipment.
CAUTION - Immobilizer
alterations
Do not change, alter or adjustthe immobilizer system becauseit could cause the immobilizersystem to malfunction.
CAUTION - Immobilizer

Features of your vehicle
With a smart key, you can lock or
unlock a door and even start the
engine without inserting the key.
The functions of the buttons on a
smart key are similar to the remote
keyless entry. (Refer to the “Remote
keyless entry” in this chapter.)
Smart key functions
Carrying the smart key, you may lock
and unlock the vehicle doors. Also,
you may start the engine. Refer to
the following, for more details.

Smart key precautions
If you lose your smart key, you willnot be able to start the engine. Tow
the vehicle, if necessary, and con-
tact an authorized Kia dealer.
A maximum of 2 smart keys can be registered to a single vehicle. If
you lose a smart key, you should
immediately take the vehicle and
key to your authorized Kia dealer
to protect it from potential theft.
The smart key will not work if any of following occurs:
- The smart key is close to a radiotransmitter such as a radio sta-
tion or an airport which can inter-
fere with normal operation of the
smart key.
- The smart key is near a mobile two-way radio system or a cellu-
lar phone.
- Another vehicle’s smart key is being operated close to your
vehicle.
When the smart key does not work
correctly, open and close the door
with the mechanical key. If you
have a problem with the smart key,
contact an authorized Kia dealer. If the smart key is in close proximi-
ty to your cell phone or smart
phone, the signal from the smart
key could be blocked by normal
operation of your cell phone or
smart phone. This is especially
important when the phone is active
such as making calls, receiving
calls, text messaging, and/or send-
ing/receiving emails. Avoid placing
the smart key and your cell phone
or smart phone in the same pants
or jacket pocket and maintain ade-
quate distance between the two
devices.
Do not leave the smart key near metallic objects such as golf bags,
metal cases and so on.
Door Lock/Unlock failure or poor starting can occur when the smart
key is placed near metallic objects.
Always carry your smart key when you leave the car. An unattended
smart key close to the vehicle can
cause the vehicle battery to be dis-
charged. Internal circuit damage may occur
when the key comes into contact
with moisture (beverage, water
etc.) or heat. Damage to the smart
key due to exposure to liquids or
heat is not covered by the manu-
facturer's vehicle warranty.
CAUTION - Transmitter
Keep the smart key away fromwater or any liquid as it canbecome damaged and not func-tion properly.

lizer system activates automatically.
Without a valid smart key for your
vehicle, the engine will not start.
✽ ✽ NOTICE

the key with other immobilizer keys
around. Otherwise the engine may
not start or may stop soon after it
starts. Keep each key separate in
order to avoid a starting malfunction.
✽ ✽NOTICE
If you need additional keys or lose
your keys, contact an authorized
Kia dealer.
This device complies with Part 15
of the FCC rules.

the vehicle. If any door, liftgate or
engine hood is opened within 30
seconds after entering the armed
stage, the system is disarmed to
prevent unnecessary alarm.Theft-alarm stage
