HOW TO KEEP SAFETY
BELTS ALWAYS EFFICIENT
❒Always use the seat belts with the
tap taut and never twisted; make
sure that it is free to run without
impediments.
❒Replace the belt after a serious ac-
cident even if it does not appear
damaged. Always replace the belt
if the pretensioners were deployed.
❒To clean the belt, wash by hand
with water and mild soap, rinse
and leave to dry in the shade. Do
not use strong detergents, bleach,
paints or any other chemical sub-
stance which could damage the
belt fibres.
❒Keep the reels dry: correct opera-
tion is ensured only if there are no
water infiltrations in the reels.
❒Replace the seat belt when show-
ing significant signs of wear or
cuts.CARRYING
CHILDREN
SAFELY
For optimal protection in the event of
a crash, all passengers must be seated
and wear adequate restraint systems.
This is even more important for chil-
dren.
This is a compulsory requirement in
all EC member countries according to
EC Directive 2003/20/EC.
A child’s head is larger and heavier in
proportion to his/her body and the
child’s muscular and bone structures
are not fully developed. For this rea-
son, they require restraint systems
which are different from those used
by adults to protect them in the event
of an accident.
If the belt has been sub-
jected to a heavy stress, for
example after an accident, it should
be changed completely together with
the anchors, anchor fastening screws
and the pretensioner. In fact, even if
the belt has no visible defects, it
could have lost its resilience.
WARNING
Each seat belt must be
worn by one person only.
Do not carry children on your lap
with one seat belt protecting both.
In general, do not place any objects
between the passenger and the belt.

The research results in relation to the
best protection for children is illus-
trated in European standard ECE-
R44 which divides the restraint sys-
tems into five groups in addition to
making their use compulsory:
Group 0 - up to 10 kg in weight
Group 0+ - up to 13 kg in weight
Group 1 9-18 kg in weight
Group 2 15-25 kg in weight
Group 3 22-36 kg in weight
As it may be noted, the groups over-
lap partly and, in fact, in commerce it
is possible to find devices that cover
more than one weight group.
All restraint devices must bear the
type-approval data along with the
control mark on a label that must be
firmly secured to the child seat and
must never be removed.
Over 1.50 m in height, from the point
of view of restraint systems, children
are considered as adults and must
wear the seat belts normally.
Lineaccessori Lancia includes child
seats for each weight group. These de-
vices are recommended having been
specifically designed for Lancia cars.
SEVERE DANGER: do not
arrange child seats on the
front seat facing backwards if the
passenger’s front airbag is enabled.
Deployment of the airbag in the
event of an accident could cause fa-
tal injuries to the baby. It is advis-
able to carry children on the back
seat, which is the most protected po-
sition in the event of an accident.
Under no circumstances should
child seats be fitted on the front seat
if the car is equipped with an airbag
on the passenger side, because if the
airbag is deployed, it may cause fa-
tal injuries to the baby regardless of
the severity of the crash causing the
deployment.
WARNING
On cars supplied with a de-
activation system for the
front passenger airbag,
children can sit on the front
seat, when required.
In this case, however, make
sure that the airbag is actually de-
activated by checking the amber
warning light on the panel (see the
paragraph “front airbag on passen-
ger side” in the section on both front
and side airbags). Move the pas-
senger’s seat as far back as possible
to avoid contact between the child
seat and the dashboard.

GROUP 0 and 0+ fig. 10
Babies up to 13 kg must be carried
facing backwards on a cradle seat,
which supports the head, thus not in-
ducing stresses on the baby’s neck in
the event of sharp decelerations.
Cradle seats must be withheld using
the car seat belts. To restrain the baby
use the seat belts fitted in the child
seat.GROUP 1 fig. 11
Children from 9 kg to 18 kg in weight
can be carried facing forwards if the
child seat is fitted with a front cush-
ion, through which the car seat belt
restrains both child and seat.
fig. 11L0D0137mfig. 12L0D0138mfig. 10L0D0136m
The figure is indicative for assembly purposes only. Refer to the in-
structions supplied with the child seat.
WARNING
Some child restraint systems for weight group 0 and 1 have a rear
attachment and seat belts for securing the child. Due to their weight,
they may be dangerous if incorrectly mounted (e.g. if fastened to the car seat
belts placing a cushion in between). Follow the assembly instructions care-
fully.
WARNING
GROUP 2 fig. 12
Children from 15 to 25 kg can be se-
cured using the car seat belts directly.
The child seat is only needed to posi-
tion the child correctly with respect to
the belts so that the diagonal section
crosses the child’s chest and never the
neck and is snug on the hips and not
the abdomen.
The figure is indicative for
assembly purposes only. Re-
fer to the instructions supplied with
the child seat.

For children from 22 kg to 36 kg in
weight the size of the child’s chest no
longer requires a support to space the
child’s back from the seat backrest.
The figure shows proper child seat po-
sitioning on the rear seat.
Children over 1.50 m in height can
wear seat belts like adults.
The figure is indicative for
assembly purposes only. Re-
fer to the instructions supplied with
the child seat.
WARNING
PASSENGER SEAT COMPLIANCE WITH REGULATIONS ON CHILD
SEAT USE
The car complies with the new European Directive 2000/3/EC which governs
the arrangement of child restraints on the various seats of the car as shown in
the following table.

to European standard ECE-R44 for the specified “Groups”.

Below is a summary of the safety
rules to be followed for carrying
children:
❒The recommended position for in-
stalling the child seat is on the rear
seat, as it is the most protected
area in the event of a crash.
❒If the passenger’s air bag is deac-
tivated (where provided) always
check that the amber “warning
light on the panel is permanently
on to indicate actual airbag deac-
tivation.
❒Thoroughly follow the instructions
that must be provided by the
manufacturer with the child seat.
Keep the instructions in the car
along with the other papers and
this handbook. Do not use child
seats without instructions.
❒Pull the belt to make sure that the
seat belt is properly hooked.❒Only one child must sit on the
child seat: never let two children
sit on it simultaneously.
❒Always check that the seat belts do
not run around the child’s neck.
❒While travelling, do not let the
child sit incorrectly or release the
belts.
❒Never carry children, nor even in-
fants, on your lap. No-one, how-
ever strong, can hold a child in the
case of an accident.
❒In the event of an accident, replace
the child’s seat with a new one. ISOFIX
CHILD RESTRAINT
ASSEMBLY SETUP
Provision has been made on the car to
mount a Universal Isofix child re-
straint system, a new European stan-
dardised system for carrying children
safely.
Isofix systems can be mounted simul-
taneously with a traditional restraint
system.
An example of child seat is shown in
fig. 14.
The Universal Isofix child seat covers
weight group: 1.
Specific Isofix child seats cover the
other weight groups. These seats must
be designed, tested and type-ap-
proved specifically for this car (refer
to the list of cars attached to the child
seat).
Do not arrange child seats
on the front seat in cars fit-
ted with an airbag on the passenger
side. Children must never travel on
the front seat.
