BLIND SPOT
MONITORING (BSM) (for
versions/markets, where
provided)
The Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM)
system uses two radar-based sensors,
located inside the rear bumper fascia,
to detect highway licensable vehicles
(automobiles, trucks, motorcycles,
etc.) that enter the blind spot zones
from the rear/front/side of the ve-
hicle.
When the vehicle is started, the BSM
warning light will momentarily illu-
minate in both outside rear view mir-
rors to let the driver know that the
system is operational. The BSM sys-
tem sensors operate when the vehicleis in any forward gear or REVERSE
and enters stand by mode when the
vehicle is in PARK.
The BSM detection zone covers ap-
proximately one lane 3.8 m on both
sides of the vehicle. The zone starts at
the outside rear view mirror and ex-
tends approximately 7 m to the rear of
the vehicle. The BSM system monitors
the detection zones on both sides of
the vehicle when the vehicle speed
reaches approximately 10 km/h or
higher and will alert the driver of ve-
hicles in these areas.
NOTE:
The BSM system does NOT alert
the driver about rapidly ap-
proaching vehicles that are out-
side the detection zones. The BSM system detection zone
DOES NOT change if your ve-
hicle is towing a trailer. There-
fore, visually verify the adjacent
lane is clear for both your ve-
hicle and trailer before making
a lane change. If the trailer or
other object (i.e., bicycle, sports
equipment) extends beyond the
side of your vehicle, this may re-
sult in the BSM warning light
remaining illuminated the en-
tire time the vehicle is in a for-
ward gear.
The area on the rear fascia where the
radar sensors are located must remain
free of snow, ice, and dirt/road con-
tamination so that the BSM system
can function properly. Do not block
the area of the rear fascia where the
radar sensors are located with foreign
objects (bumper stickers, bicycle
racks, etc.).

Cannot take street, traffic, andweather conditions into account,
and may be limited upon adverse
sight distance conditions.
Does not always fully recognize complex driving conditions,
which can result in wrong or
missing distance warnings.
Can only apply a maximum of 40% of the vehicle’s braking ca-
pability, and will not bring the
vehicle to a complete stop. You
should switch off the ACC system:
When driving in fog, heavy rain, heavy snow, sleet, heavy traffic,
and complex driving situations
(i.e., in highway construction
zones).
When entering a turn lane or highway off ramp; when driving
on roads that are winding, icy,
snow-covered, slippery, or have
steep uphill or downhill slopes.
When towing a trailer up or down steep slopes.
When circumstances do not allow safe driving at a constant speed. The Cruise Control system has two
control modes:
Adaptive Cruise Control mode for
maintaining an appropriate dis-
tance between vehicles.
Normal (fixed speed) cruise control mode is for cruising at a constant
preset speed. For additional infor-
mation, refer to “Normal (Fixed
Speed) Cruise Control Mode” in
this section.
NOTE: The system will not react
to preceding vehicles. Always be
aware of the mode selected.
You can change the mode by using the
Cruise Control buttons. The two con-
trol modes function differently. Al-
ways confirm which mode is selected.
ADAPTIVE CRUISE
CONTROL (ACC)
OPERATION
The speed control buttons (located on
the right side of the steering wheel)
operates the ACC system. NOTE: Any chassis/suspension
modifications to the vehicle will
effect the performance of the
Adaptive Cruise Control.
ACTIVATING ADAPTIVE
CRUISE CONTROL (ACC)
You can only activate ACC if the ve-
hicle speed is above 30 km/h.
When the system is turned on and in
the READY state, the Electronic Ve-
hicle Information Center (EVIC) dis-
plays “Adaptive Cruise Ready.”

unavailable. If this occurs, try activat-
ing ACC again later, following a key
cycle. If the problem persists, see your
authorized dealer.
PRECAUTIONS WHILE
DRIVING WITH ACC
In certain driving situations, ACC
may have detection issues. In these
cases, ACC may brake late or unex-
pectedly. The driver needs to stay
alert and may need to intervene.Adding A Trailer Hitch
The weight of a trailer/hitch may af-
fect the performance of ACC. If there
is a noticeable change in performance
following the installation of a trailer/
hitch, or if the ACC performance does
not return to normal after removing
the trailer/hitch see your authorized
dealer.
Offset Driving
ACC may not detect a vehicle in the
same lane that is offset from your
direct line of travel, or a vehicle merg-
ing in from a side lane. There may not
be sufficient distance to the vehicle
ahead. The offset vehicle may move in
and out of the line of travel, which can
cause your vehicle to brake or accel-
erate unexpectedly.
Turns And Bends
In turns or bends, ACC may detect a
vehicle ahead too late or too early.
This may cause your vehicle to brake
late or unexpectedly. Give extra atten-
tion in curves and be ready to apply
the brakes if necessary. Be sure to
select an appropriate speed while
driving in curves.
ACC may occasionally provide brak-
ing and/or a driver alert that you con-
sider unnecessary. This may be the
system’s response to signs, guardrails,
and other stationary objects in a
curve. This may also occur at the base
of steep hills. This is normal operation
and your vehicle does not require ser-
vice.

SERVICE THE
PARKSENSE® PARK
ASSIST SYSTEM
During vehicle start up, when the
ParkSense® Park Assist system has
detected a fault condition, the Elec-
tronic Vehicle Information Center
(EVIC) will actuate a single chime,
once per ignition cycle, and it will
display the “CLEAN PARK ASSIST”,
“SERVICE PARK ASSIST” or the
“SERVICE PARK ASSIST SYSTEM”
message. Refer to “Electronic Vehicle
Information Center (EVIC)” in “Un-
derstanding Your Instrument Panel”
for further information. When the
shift lever is moved to REVERSE and
the system has detected a fault condi-
tion, the EVIC will display the
"CLEAN PARK ASSIST", "SERVICE
PARK ASSIST", or "SERVICE PARK
ASSIST SYSTEM" message for as
long as the vehicle is in REVERSE.
Under this condition, ParkSense®
will not operate.
CLEANING THE PARK
ASSIST SYSTEM
Clean the sensors with water, car
wash soap and a soft cloth. Do not use
rough or hard cloths. Do not scratch
or poke the sensors. Otherwise, you
could damage the sensors.
PARKSENSE® SYSTEM
USAGE PRECAUTIONS
NOTE:
Ensure that the front and rearbumper are free of snow, ice,
mud, dirt and debris to keep the
ParkSense® system operating
properly.
Jackhammers, large trucks, and other vibrations could affect the
performance of ParkSense®.
When you turn ParkSense® off, the EVIC will display “PARK
ASSIST SYSTEM OFF.” Further-
more, once you turn
ParkSense® off, it remains off
until you turn it on again, even if
you cycle the ignition key. When you move the shift lever to
the REVERSE position and
ParkSense® is turned off, the
EVIC will display “PARK AS-
SIST SYSTEM OFF” message for
as long as the vehicle is in RE-
VERSE at or below 11 km/h.
ParkSense®, when on, will MUTE the radio when it is
sounding a tone.
Clean the ParkSense® sensors regularly, taking care not to
scratch or damage them. The
sensors must not be covered
with ice, snow, slush, mud, dirt
or debris. Failure to do so can
result in the system not working
properly. The ParkSense® sys-
tem might not detect an obstacle
behind or in front of the fascia/
bumper, or it could provide a
false indication that an obstacle
is behind or in front of the
fascia/bumper.
Objects such as bicycle carriers, trailer hitches, etc., must not be
placed within 30 cm from the

19. Seat Belt Reminder LightWhen the ignition switch is
first turned to ON/RUN, this
light will turn on for four to
eight seconds as a bulb check. During
the bulb check, if the driver's seat belt
is unbuckled, a chime will sound. Af-
ter the bulb check or when driving, if
the driver or passenger's (for
versions/markets, where provided)
seat belt remains unbuckled, the Seat
Belt Reminder Light will illuminate
and the chime will sound. Refer to
“Occupant Restraints” in “Things To
Know Before Starting Your Vehicle”
for further information.
20. Temperature Gauge
The temperature gauge shows engine
coolant temperature. Any reading
within the normal range indicates
that the engine cooling system is op-
erating satisfactorily.
The gauge pointer will likely indicate
a higher temperature when driving in
hot weather, up mountain grades, or
when towing a trailer. It should not be
allowed to exceed the upper limits of
the normal operating range.CAUTION!
Driving with a hot engine cooling
system could damage your vehicle.
If the temperature gauge reads “H”
pull over and stop the vehicle. Idle
the vehicle with the air conditioner
turned off until the pointer drops
back into the normal range. If the
pointer remains on the “H” and you
hear continuous chimes, turn the
engine off immediately and call an
authorized dealer for service.
WARNING!
A hot engine cooling system is dan-
gerous. You or others could be
badly burned by steam or boiling
coolant. You may want to call an
authorized dealer for service if your
vehicle overheats. If you decide to
look under the hood yourself, see
“Maintaining Your Vehicle”. Fol-
low the warnings under the Cooling
System Pressure Cap paragraph. 21. AWD (All Wheel Drive) Indica-
tor (for versions/ markets, where
provided)
The AWD indicator will illuminate
when All Wheel Drive (AWD) is
activated.
ELECTRONIC VEHICLE
INFORMATION CENTER
(EVIC)
The Electronic Vehicle Information
Center (EVIC) features a driver-
interactive display that is located in
the instrument cluster.
This system allows the driver to select
a variety of useful information by

Engine Temperature Warning
TelltaleThis telltale warns of an over-
heated engine condition. As
temperatures rise and the gauge ap-
proaches H,this telltale will illumi-
nate and a single chime will sound
after reaching a set threshold. Further
overheating will cause the tempera-
ture gauge to pass H,the telltale will
continuously flash and a continuous
chime will occur until the engine is
allowed to cool.
If the telltale turns on while driving,
safely pull over and stop the vehicle. If
the A/C system is on, turn it off. Also,
shift the transmission into NEUTRAL
and idle the vehicle. If the tempera-
ture reading does not return to nor-
mal, turn the engine off immediately
and call for service. Refer to “If Your
Engine Overheats” in “What To Do In
Emergencies” for more information.
Transmission Temperature
Warning Telltale
This telltale indicates that
the transmission fluid tem-
perature is running hot. This may occur with severe usage,
such as trailer towing. If this telltale
turns on, safely pull over and stop the
vehicle. Then, shift the transmission
into PARK and run the engine at idle
or faster until the light turns off.
CAUTION!
Continuous driving with the Trans-
mission Temperature Warning Tell-
tale illuminated will eventually
cause severe transmission damage
or transmission failure.
WARNING!
If the Transmission Temperature
Warning Telltale is illuminated and
you continue operating the vehicle,
in some circumstances you could
cause the fluid to boil over, come in
contact with hot engine or exhaust
components and cause a fire.
Electric Power Steering
Malfunction
This telltale is on when the
Electric Power Steering is
not operating and needs
service.
GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR
(GSI) — If Equipped
The Gear Shift Indicator (GSI) system
is enabled on vehicles with a manual
transmission, or when a vehicle with
an automatic transmission is in
manual shift mode. The GSI provides
the driver with a visual indication
within the EVIC when the recom-
mended gear shift point has been
reached. This indication notifies the
driver that changing gear will allow a
reduction in fuel consumption.
When the shift up indicator (+) is
shown on the display, the GSI is ad-
vising the driver to engage a higher
gear.

CAUTION!
Before moving the shift lever outof PARK, you must start the en-
gine, and also press the brake
pedal. Otherwise, damage to the
shift lever could result.
DO NOT race the engine when shifting from PARK or NEU-
TRAL into another gear range, as
this can damage the drivetrain.
The following indicators should be
used to ensure that you have engaged
the transmission into the PARK posi-
tion:
When shifting into PARK, press the lock button on the shift lever and
push the lever all the way forward
until it stops. When released, the
lever will return to its home posi-
tion.
With brake pedal released, look at the transmission gear position dis-
play and verify that it indicates the
PARK position.
REVERSE (R)
This range is for moving the vehicle
backward. Shift into REVERSE only
after the vehicle has come to a com-
plete stop.
NEUTRAL (N)
Use this range when the vehicle is
standing for prolonged periods with
the engine running. The engine may
be started in this range. Apply the
parking brake and shift the transmis-
sion into PARK if you must leave the
vehicle.
WARNING!
Do not coast in NEUTRAL and
never turn off the ignition to coast
down a hill. These are unsafe prac-
tices that limit your response to
changing traffic or road conditions.
You might lose control of the ve-
hicle and have a collision.
CAUTION!
Towing the vehicle, coasting, or
driving for any other reason with
the transmission in NEUTRAL can
cause severe transmission damage.
Refer to “Recreational Towing” in
“Starting And Operating” and
“Towing A Disabled Vehicle” in
“What To Do In Emergencies” for
further information.
DRIVE (D)
This range should be used for most
city and highway driving. It provides
the smoothest upshifts and down-
shifts, and the best fuel economy. The
transmission automatically upshifts
through all forward gears. The
DRIVE position provides optimum
driving characteristics under all nor-
mal operating conditions.
When frequent transmission shifting
occurs (such as when operating the
vehicle under heavy loading condi-
tions, in hilly terrain, traveling into
strong head winds, or while towing
heavy trailers), use the AutoStick®
shift control (if equipped) or the LOW

driving for any other reason with
the transmission in NEUTRAL can
cause severe transmission damage.
Refer to “Recreational Towing” in
“Starting And Operating” and
“Towing A Disabled Vehicle” in
“What To Do In Emergencies” for
further information.
DRIVE (D)
This range should be used for most
city and highway driving. It provides
the smoothest upshifts and down-
shifts, and the best fuel economy. The
transmission automatically upshifts
through underdrive first, second, and
third gears, direct fourth gear and
overdrive fifth gear. The DRIVE posi-
tion provides optimum driving char-
acteristics under all normal operating
conditions.
When frequent transmission shifting
occurs (such as when operating the
vehicle under heavy loading condi-
tions, in hilly terrain, traveling into
strong head winds, or while towingheavy trailers), use the “AutoStick®”
shift control (refer to “AutoStick®” in
this section for further information)
to select a lower gear. Under these
conditions, using a lower gear will
improve performance and extend
transmission life by reducing exces-
sive shifting and heat buildup.
Transmission Limp Home Mode
Transmission function is monitored
electronically for abnormal condi-
tions. If a condition is detected that
could result in transmission damage,
Transmission Limp Home Mode is ac-
tivated. In this mode, the transmis-
sion remains in the current gear until
the vehicle is brought to a stop. After
the vehicle has stopped, the transmis-
sion will remain in second gear re-
gardless of which forward gear is se-
lected. PARK, REVERSE, and
NEUTRAL will continue to operate.
The Malfunction Indicator Light
(MIL) may be illuminated. Limp
Home Mode allows the vehicle to be
driven to an authorized dealer for ser-
vice without damaging the transmis-
sion.
In the event of a momentary problem,
the transmission can be reset to regain
all forward gears by performing the
following steps:
1. Stop the vehicle.
2. Shift the transmission into PARK.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the
OFF position.
4. Wait approximately 10 seconds.
5. Restart the engine.
6. Shift into the desired gear range. If
the problem is no longer detected, the
transmission will return to normal op-
eration.
NOTE: Even if the transmission
can be reset, we recommend that
you visit your authorized dealer at
your earliest possible conve-
nience. Your authorized dealer has
diagnostic equipment to deter-
mine if the problem could recur. If
the transmission cannot be reset,
authorized dealer service is re-
quired.
