Maintenance and care
Wheels
When replacing wheels, care should be taken to ensure that they are
equivalent to those removed in load capacity, diameter, rim width and
inset
*.
Replacement wheels are available at any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
*: Conventionally referred to as “offset”.
Lexus does not recommend using the following:
Wheels of different sizes or types
Used wheels
Bent wheels that have been straightened
Use only Lexus wheel nuts and wrenches designed for use with your
aluminum wheels.
When rotating, repairing or changing your tires, check that the wheel
nuts are still tight after driving 1600 km (1000 miles).
Be careful not to damage the aluminum wheels when using tire chains.
Use only Lexus genuine balance weights or equivalent and a plastic or
rubber hammer when balancing your wheels.
When replacing wheels (vehicles with the tire pressure warning system)
The wheels of your vehicle are equipped with tire pressure warning valves and
transmitters that allow the tire pressure warning system to provide advance warn-
ing in the event of a loss in tire inflation pressure. Whenever wheels are replaced,
tire pressure warning valves and transmitters must be installed. (P. 5 1 1 )
If a wheel is bent, cracked or heavily corroded, it should be replaced.
Otherwise, the tire may separate from the wheel or cause a loss of han-
dling control.

When replacing wheels
Do not use wheels that are a different size from those recommended in the
Owner’s Manual, as this may result in a loss of handling control.
Never use an inner tube in a leaking wheel which is designed for a tubeless
tire. Doing so may result in an accident, causing death or serious injury.
Use of defective wheels prohibited
Do not use cracked or deformed wheels.
Doing so could cause the tire to leak air during driving, possibly causing an
accident.
NOTICE
Replacing tire pressure warning valves and transmitters (vehicles with the tire
pressure warning system)
Because tire repair or replacement may affect the tire pressure warning valves
and transmitters, make sure to have tires serviced by any authorized Lexus
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional or
other qualified service shop. In addition, make sure to purchase your tire pres-
sure warning valves and transmitters at any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
Ensure that only genuine Lexus wheels are used on your vehicle.
Tire pressure warning valves and transmitters may not work properly with
non-genuine wheels.

When trouble arises
The following may indicate a problem with your hybrid transmission.
Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified
and equipped professional before towing.
The hybrid warning message shows on and the vehicle does not move.
The vehicle makes an abnormal sound.
Do not tow with a sling-type truck
to prevent body damage.

When trouble arises
If you think something is wrong
Fluid leaks under the vehicle
(Water dripping from the air conditioning after use is normal.)
Flat-looking tires or uneven tire wear
High coolant temperature warning light flashes or comes on
Changes in exhaust sound
Excessive tire squeal when cornering
Strange noises related to the suspension system
Pinging or other noises related to the hybrid system
Engine missing, stumbling or running roughly
Appreciable loss of power
Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when braking
Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when driving on a level road
Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling, pedal almost touches the
floor
If you notice any of the following symptoms, your vehicle probably
needs adjustment or repair. Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional as soon as
possible.

If a warning light turns on or a warning buzzer sounds
Calmly perform the following actions if any of the warning lights comes
on or flashes. If a light comes on or flashes, but then goes off, this does
not necessarily indicate a malfunction in the system. However, if this
continues to occur, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.

Indicates that:
• The brake fluid level is low; or
• The brake system is malfunctioning
This light also comes on when the parking brake is not
released. If the light turns off after the parking brake is fully
released, the system is operating normally.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact any
authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly quali-
fied and equipped professional. Continuing to drive the
vehicle may be dangerous.
Brake system warning light (yellow indicator)
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The regenerative braking system; or
• The electronically controlled brake system
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional immediately.
Charging system warning light
Indicates a malfunction in the vehicle’s charging system
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact any
authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly quali-
fied and equipped professional.
Low engine oil pressure warning light
Indicates that the engine oil pressure is too low
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact any
authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly quali-
fied and equipped professional.

Malfunction indicator lamp
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The hybrid system;
• The electronic engine control system;
• The electronic throttle control system; or
• The emission control system (If equipped)
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional immediately.
SRS warning light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The SRS airbag system; or
• The seat belt pretensioner system
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional immediately.
ABS warning light
Indicates a malfunction in:
•The ABS; or
• The brake assist system
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional immediately.
Electric power steering system warning light (warning buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in the EPS system
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional immediately.

“PCS” warning light
Indicates a malfunction in the pre-crash safety system
The warning light will operate as follows, even when the sys-
tem is not malfunctioning:
• The light will flash quickly when the system is operating.

• The light will turn on when the pre-crash braking is dis-
abled. (P. 276)
• The light will turn on when the system cannot temporarily
be used. (P. 584)
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer

Slip indicator light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The VSC system;
• The TRC system; or
• The hill-start assist control system
The light will flash when the above systems and/or ABS are
operating.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional immediately.
(If equipped)
Automatic headlight leveling system warning light
Indicates a malfunction in the automatic headlight leveling
system
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional immediately.
High coolant temperature warning light
Changes from a flashing to a solid light when the engine
coolant temperature increases
Stop and check. (P. 629)
Open door warning light (warning buzzer)*2
Indicates that a door is not fully closed
Check that all the doors are closed.
Low fuel level warning light
Indicates that remaining fuel is approximately 6.8 L (1.8
gal., 1.5 Imp.gal.) or less
Refuel the vehicle.
Driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt reminder light (warn-
ing buzzer)

Warns the driver and/or front passenger to fasten their seat
belts
Fasten the seat belt.
If the front passenger’s seat is occupied, the front passen-
ger’s seat belt also needs to be fastened to make the warning
light (warning buzzer) turn off.
Rear passengers’ seat belt reminder lights (warning buzzer)*4
Warns the rear passengers to fasten their seat belts in the fol-
lowing situations:
• A rear door is opened and closed.

• A rear passenger fastens their seat belt and then unfastens
it.
Fasten the seat belt.

When there is a possible problem that could affect braking performance, the
warning light will come on and a warning buzzer will sound.

*3: Driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt buzzer:
The driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt buzzer sounds to alert the driver
and front passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer sounds
for 30 seconds after the vehicle reaches a speed of 20 km/h (12 mph). Then, if
the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer will sound in a different tone for 90
more seconds.
*4: Rear passengers’ seat belt buzzer:
The rear passengers’ seat belt buzzer sounds to alert the driver that the rear
seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer sounds for 30 seconds after the vehicle
reaches a speed of 20 km/h (12 mph). Then, if the seat belt is still unfastened,
the buzzer will sound in a different tone for 90 more seconds.
*5: If the rear seat belt is not fastened, the light will go off after a short period of
time.
Master warning light
A buzzer sounds and the warning light comes on and flashes
to indicate that the master warning system has detected a
malfunction.

Tire pressure warning light
When the light comes on:
Low tire inflation pressure such as
• Natural causes (P. 572)
• Flat tire (P. 591, 605)
Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified level.
The light will turn off after a few minutes. In case the light
does not turn off even if the tire inflation pressure is
adjusted, have the system checked by any authorized Lexus
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped
professional.
When the light comes on after blinking for 1 minute:
Malfunction in the tire pressure warning system (P. 573)
Have the system checked by any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.

Front passenger detection sensor, seat belt reminder and warning buzzer
If luggage is placed on the front passenger seat, the front passenger detection
sensor may cause the warning light to flash and the warning buzzer to sound
even if a passenger is not sitting in the seat.
If a cushion is placed on the seat, the sensor may not detect a passenger, and the
warning light may not operate properly.
Electric power steering system warning light (warning buzzer)
When the 12-volt battery charge becomes insufficient or the voltage temporarily
drops, the electric power steering system warning light may come on and the
warning buzzer may sound.
If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
The malfunction indicator lamp will come on if the fuel tank becomes com-
pletely empty. If the fuel tank is empty, refuel the vehicle immediately. The mal-
function indicator lamp will go off after several trips.
If the malfunction indicator lamp does not go off, contact any authorized Lexus
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional as soon as
possible.
When the tire pressure warning light comes on (vehicles with the tire pressure
warning system)
Inspect the appearance of the tire to check that the tire is not punctured.
If the tire is punctured: P. 591, 605
If the tire is not punctured:
Carry out the following procedure after the tire temperature has lowered suffi-
ciently.
Check the tire inflation pressure and adjust to the appropriate level.
If the warning light does not go out even after several minutes, check that the
tire inflation pressure is at the specified level and carry out initialization. (P.
512)
The warning light may come on again if the above operations are conducted
without first allowing the tire temperature to lower sufficiently.
The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural causes (vehicles with
the tire pressure warning system)
The tire pressure warning light may turn on due to natural causes such as natural
air leaks or tire inflation pressure changes caused by temperature. In this case,
adjusting the tire inflation pressure will turn off the warning light (after a few
minutes).
