7-2. Steps to take in an emergency

If you think something is wrong
●Fluid leaks under the vehicle.
(Water dripping from the air conditioning after use is normal.)
●Flat-looking tires or uneven tire wear
●Engine coolant temperature gauge needle continually points higher than nor-
mal.
●Changes in exhaust sound
●Excessive tire squeal when cornering
●Strange noises related to the suspension system
●Pinging or other noises related to the hybrid system
●Engine missing, stumbling or running roughly
●Appreciable loss of power
●Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when braking
●Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when driving on a level road
●Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling, pedal almost touches the floor
If you notice any of the following sy mptoms, your vehicle probably needs
adjustment or repair. Contact any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus autho-
rized repairer, or any reliable repairer as soon as possible.

ABS warning light Indicates a malfunction in:•The ABS; or

Electric power steering system warning light (warning buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in the EPS (Electric Power Steering) sys- tem Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus retailer or

PCS (Pre-Crash Safety system) warning light
●When the warning light flashes (and a buzzer sounds):
Indicates a malfunction in the PCS (Pre-Crash Safety system)  Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer immedi-
ately.
●When the warning light flashes (and a buzzer does not sound):
Indicates that the PCS (Pre-Crash Safety system) is temporarily unavailable, possibly due to either of the following:• An area around the radar sensor or camera sensor being dirty
or covered with condensation, ice, stickers, etc.  Clear the dirt, condensation, ice, stickers, etc. ( P. 264, 285)
• Radar sensor or camera sensor operational conditions (such as temperature etc.) being not met Driving is possible in this case. The PCS (Pre-Crash Safety
system) will be enabled if the operational conditions (such as temperature etc.) are met again.
●When the warning light is illuminated:Either the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) system or PCS (Pre-Crash Safety system) is disabled or both are disabled.
 To enable the PCS (Pre-Crash Safety system), enable both the VSC system and PCS (Pre-Crash Safety system). ( P. 281, 327)
Slip indicator
Indicates a malfunction in: • The VSC system;• The TRC system; or
• The hill-start assist control system  Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer immediately.
The light will flash when the VSC, TRC or ABS system is operating.

■When the tire pressure warning light comes on (if equipped)
Carry out the following procedure after the tire temperature has lowered sufficiently.
●Check the tire inflation pressure and adjust to the appropriate level.
●If the warning light does not go out even afte r several minutes, check that the tire infla- tion pressure is at the specifie d level and carry out initialization.
The warning light may come on again if the above operations are conducted without first
allowing the tire temperature to lower sufficiently.
■The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural causes
The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural causes such as natural air
leaks and tire inflation pressure changes caused by temperature. In this case, adjusting the tire inflation pressure will turn off the warning light (after a few minutes).
■When a tire is replaced with a spare tire
The compact spare tire is not equipped with a tire pressure warning valve and transmit- ter. If a tire goes flat, the tire pressure warning light will not turn off even though the flattire has been replaced with the spare tire.
■Conditions that the tire pressure warning system may not function properly

■If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after blinking for 1 minute
If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after blinking for 1 minute when the power switch is turned to ON mode, have it checked by any authorized Lexus retailer orLexus authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■Warning buzzer
In some cases, the buzzer may not be heard because of noisy place or an audio sound.

A buzzer also sounds.  Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
(If equipped)
The operation conditions of the camera sensor (tem- perature, etc.) are not met.
 When the operation conditions of the camera sen- sor (temperature, etc.) are met, the following sys-tems will become available.
• PCS (Pre-Crash Safety system) • LKA (Lane-Keeping Assist) system• RSA (Road Sign Assist)
• Dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range • Dynamic radar cruise control• AHS (Adaptive High-beam System)
• Automatic High Beam
(If equipped)
Indicates that the system is temporarily unavailable due
to a malfunction in a sensor other than the camera sen- sorA buzzer also sounds.
 Turn the LKA (Lane-Keeping Assist) system off, wait for a little while, and then turn the LKA (Lane-Keep-ing Assist) system back on.

Dirt, rain, condensation, ice, snow, etc., are present onthe windshield in front of the camera sensor.
The following systems will be temporarily unusable. • PCS (Pre-Crash Safety system)• LKA (Lane-Keeping Assist) system

WARNING
■When fixing the flat tire
●Stop your vehicle in a safe and flat area.
●Do not touch the wheels or the area around the brakes immediately after the vehicle
has been driven. After the vehicle has been driven, the wheels and the area around the brakes may beextremely hot. Touching these areas with hands, feet or other body parts may result in
burns.
●Connect the valve and hose securely with the tire installed on the vehicle.
●If the hose is not properly connected to the valve, air leakage may occur or sealant
may be sprayed out.
●If the hose comes off the valve while inflating the tire, there is a risk that the hose will move abruptly due to air pressure.
●After inflation of the tire has completed, the sealant may splatter when the hose is dis-connected or some air is let out of the tire.
●Follow the operation procedure to repair the tire. If the procedures not followed, the
sealant may spray out.
●Keep back from the tire while it is being repaired, as there is a chance of it bursting while the repair operation is being performe d. If you notice any cracks or deforma-
tion of the tire, turn off the compressor switch and stop the repair operation immedi- ately.
●The repair kit may overheat if operated for a long period of time. Do not operate the
repair kit continuously for more than 35 minutes.
●Parts of the repair kit become hot during op eration. Be careful handling the repair kit during and after operation. Do not touch the metal part connecting the bottle and the
compressor. It will be extremely hot.
●Do not attach the vehicle speed warning sticker to an area other than the one indi- cated. If the sticker is attached to an area where an SRS airbag is located, such as the
pad of the steering wheel, it may prevent the SRS air bag from operating properly.
■Driving to spread the liquid sealant evenly
●Drive the vehicle carefully at a low speed. Be especially careful when turning and cor-
nering.
●If the vehicle does not drive straight or you feel a pull through the steering wheel, stop the vehicle and check the following:
• Tire condition. The tire may have separated from the wheel. • Tire inflation pressure. If tire inflation pressure is 130 kPa (1.3 kgf/cm2 or b ar, 1 9 p si)or less, the tire may be severely damaged.

If your vehicle overheats
●The needle of the engine coolant temperature gauge ( P. 104) enters the
red zone or a loss of hybrid system power is experienced. (For example, the
vehicle speed does not increase.)
●“Engine Coolant Temp High Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual” or
“Hybrid System Overheated Reduced Output Power” ( P. 466) is shown on
the multi-information display.
●Steam comes out from under the hood.
■If the needle of the engine coolant temperature gauge enters the red zone
or “Engine Coolant Temp High Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual” is
shown on the multi-information display
Stop the vehicle in a safe place and turn off the air conditioning system, and
then stop the hybrid system.
If you see steam:
Carefully lift the hood after the steam subsides.
If you do not see steam:
Carefully lift the hood.
After the hybrid system has cooled down sufficiently, inspect the hoses and
cooling system for leaks.

Cooling fans
If a large amount of coolant leaks, immediately contact any autho-
rized Lexus retailer or Lexus authorized repairer, or any reli-able repairer.
The following may indicate that your vehicle is overheating.
