Daytime running light system
To make your vehicle more visible to other drivers, the front position lights
turn on automatically whenever the engine is started and the parking brake is
released. Daytime running lights are not designed for use at night.
Headlight control sensor
Automatic light off system
When the light switch is in : The headlights turn off automatically if the
engine switch is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off.
When the light switch is in : The headlights and all lights turn off auto-
matically if the engine switch is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned
off.
To turn the lights on again, turn the engine switch to IGNITION ON mode,
or turn the light switch off once and then back to or .
If any of the doors or trunk lid is kept open, the lights automatically turn off
after 20 minutes.
Light reminder buzzer
A buzzer sounds when the engine switch is turned off or turned to ACCES-
SORY mode and the driver’s door is opened while the lights are turned on.
Automatic headlight leveling system
The level of the headlights is automatically adjusted according to the number
of passengers and the loading condition of the vehicle to ensure that the
headlights do not interfere with other road users. The sensor may not function properly if
an object is placed on the sensor, or any-
thing that blocks the sensor is affixed to
the windshield.
Doing so interferes with the sensor
detecting the level of ambient light and
may cause the automatic headlight system
to malfunction.

If the “AFS OFF” indicator flashes
It may indicate a malfunction in the system. Contact any authorized Lexus
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
Customization
Settings (e.g. light sensor sensitivity) can be changed.

NOTICE
To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the lights on longer than necessary when the engine is not run-
ning.

The Automatic High Beam can be operated when
The engine switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
Camera sensor detection information
High beam may not be automatically turned off in the following situations:
• When oncoming vehicles suddenly appear from a curve
• When the vehicle is cut in front of by another
• When oncoming or preceding vehicles are hidden from sight due to
repeated curves, road dividers or roadside trees
High beam may be turned off if an oncoming vehicle that is using fog lights
without using the headlights is detected.
House lights, street lights, red traffic signals, and illuminated billboards or
signs may cause the high beam to turn off.
The following factors may affect the amount of time taken to turn high
beam on or off:
• The brightness of headlights, fog lights, and tail lights of oncoming and
preceding vehicles
• The movement and direction of oncoming and preceding vehicles
• When a oncoming or preceding vehicle only has operational lights on
one side
• When a oncoming or preceding vehicle is a two-wheeled vehicle
• The condition of the road (gradient, curve, condition of the road surface
etc.)
• The number of passengers and amount of luggage
High beam may be turned on or off when unexpected by the driver.

operate regardless of vehicle speed or amount of raindrops.
Press and hold until the

Dripping prevention wiper sweep
After washing and wiping operation several times, the wipers operate one
more time after a short delay to prevent dripping.
However, the last sweep will not happen if the vehicle is traveling above 170
km/h (106 mph).
Effects of vehicle speed on wiper operation
Vehicle speed affects the following even when the wipers are not in AUTO
mode.
Intermittent wiper interval
Wiper operation when the washer is being used (delay until drip prevention
wiper sweep occurs)
With low speed windshield wiper operation selected, wiper operation will be
switched from low speed to intermittent wiper operation only when the vehi-
cle is stationary.
Switching between the intermittent windshield wipers and
rain-sensing windshield wipers (vehicles with rain-sensing
windshield wipers)

Raindrop sensor (vehicles with rain-sensing windshield wipers)
If the wiper is turned to AUTO mode while the engine switch is in IGNI-
TION ON mode, the wipers will operate once to show that AUTO mode is
activated.
If the temperature of the raindrop sensor is 85°C (185°F) or higher, or -
30°C (-22°F) or lower, automatic operation may not occur. In this case,
operate the wipers in any mode other than AUTO mode.
When the windshield wipers are in temporary operation
AUTO mode cannot be activated even if is pressed.
If no windshield washer fluid sprays
Check that the washer nozzles are not blocked if there is washer fluid in the
windshield washer fluid reservoir.
The raindrop sensor judges the amount
of raindrops.
An optical sensor is adopted. It may not
operate properly when sunlight from
the rising or setting of the sun intermit-
tently strikes the windshield, or if bugs
etc. are present on the windshield.
CAUTION
Caution regarding the use of windshield wipers in AUTO mode
The windshield wipers may operate unexpectedly if the sensor is touched
or the windshield is subject to vibration in AUTO mode. Take care that
your fingers or anything else do not become caught in the windshield wip-
ers.
Caution regarding the use of washer fluid
When it is cold, do not use the washer fluid until the windshield becomes
warm. The fluid may freeze on the windshield and cause low visibility.
This may lead to an accident, resulting in death or serious injury.

Headlight cleaner switch
Press the switch to clean the
headlights.
The headlight cleaners can be operated when
The engine switch is in IGNITION ON mode and the headlight switch is
turned on.
Windshield washer linked operation
When the windshield washer is operated with the engine switch in IGNI-
TION ON mode and the headlights on, the headlight cleaners will operate
once. (P. 241)
Washer fluid can be sprayed on the headlights.
NOTICE
When the washer fluid tank is empty
Do not press the switch continually as the washer fluid pump may overheat.

Opening the fuel tank cap
Close all the doors and windows, and turn the engine switch off.
Confirm the type of fuel.
Fuel types
EU area:
Unleaded gasoline conforming to European standard EN228, Research
Octane Number of 95 or higher
Except EU area:
Unleaded gasoline, Research Octane Number of 95 or higher
Perform the following steps to open the fuel tank cap:

Once the cap is released, it
will turn slightly in the oppo-

Close the fuel filler door, and
press the center of the rear

When you lock the doors, the fuel
filler door will lock also.
Use of ethanol blended gasoline in a gasoline engine
Lexus allows the use of ethanol blended gasoline where the ethanol content
is up to 10%. Make sure that the ethanol blended gasoline to be used has a
Research Octane Number that follows the above.
Fuel filler door lock condition
The fuel filler door may not be locked even when the vehicle’s doors are
locked in the following conditions:
When operating the door lock button inside the vehicle
When the fuel filler door is closed after the vehicle’s doors are locked
Closing the fuel tank cap

CAUTION
When replacing the fuel tank cap
Do not use anything but a genuine Lexus fuel tank cap designed for your
vehicle. Doing so may cause a fire or other incident which may result in
death or serious injury.

Select a distance from the table below. Note that the distances
shown correspond to a vehicle speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). Vehicle-
to-vehicle distance increases/decreases in accordance with vehicle
speed.

maintain a set speed without controlling the vehicle-to-vehicle dis-
tance. Select this mode only when vehicle-to-vehicle distance con-
trol mode does not function correctly due to dirt etc.
Press the “ON-OFF” button to
activate the cruise control.
Press the button again to deactivate
the cruise control.
Switch to constant speed con-
trol mode.
(Push the lever forward and
hold for approximately one
second.)
Constant speed control mode indi-
cator will come on.
When in constant speed control
mode, to return to vehicle-to-vehi-
cle distance control mode, push the
lever forward again and hold for
approximately 1 second.
After the desired speed has been
set, it is not possible to return to
vehicle-to-vehicle distance control
mode.
If the engine switch is turned off
and then turned to IGNITION ON
mode again, the vehicle will auto-
matically return to vehicle-to-vehi-
cle distance control mode.
