Driving the vehicle
Starting on a steep inclineFirmly set the parking brake and shift the shift lever to “D”.
Gently depress the accelerator pedal.
Release the parking brake.
The following procedures should be observed to ensure safe driving.
■ Starting the hybrid system ( P. 1 0 3 )
■ Driving
With the brake pedal depressed, shift the shift lever to “D”. 

Release the parking brake. ( P. 111)
Gradually release the brake peda l and gently push the accel-
erator pedal to accelerate the vehicle.
■ Stopping
With the shift lever in “D”, push the brake pedal.
If necessary, set the parking brake.
When the vehicle is stopped for an extended period of time, shift the
shift lever to “P”. (

■Parking the vehicle
With the shift lever in “D”, push the brake pedal.
Set the parking brake. ( P. 111)

Stop the hybrid system.
Lock the door, making sure that you have the electronic key on

When driving
Starting the hybrid system
Modes can be switched by pressing the power switch when carrying the
electronic key on your person. (The hybrid system can be started in any
mode by operating the switch at the same time as depressing the brake
pedal.)
■Changing power switch mode
“OFF” mode*
Emergency flashers can be

Some electrical components

“IG-ON” mode
All electrical components can
be used.
*: The power cannot be switched to “OFF” unless the shift lever is in
“P”.
■ Starting the hybrid system
Check that the parking brake is set.
Turn off unnecessary lights and accessories.
Check that the shift lever is set in “P”.
Sit in the driver’s seat and firmly depress the brake pedal.
The power switch indicator turns green.
Press the power switch.
After a few seconds, the
“READY” light will flash and
come on with a beep sound.
The vehicle can move when the
“READY” light is on, even if the
engine is stopped.

■If the hybrid system does not start
The hybrid vehicle immobilizer system may not have been deactivated. (P. 5 9 )
■When the power switch indicator flashes in amber
The system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus
dealer immediately.
■If the “READY” light does not come on
If the “READY” light does not come on when you press the power switch with the
shift lever in “P” and the brake pedal pressed, contact your Lexus dealer immedi-
ately.
■Auto power OFF function
If the vehicle is left in the “ACC” mode for more than an hour with the shift lever in
“P”, the power switch will automatically turn “OFF”.
■When the ambient temperature is low
Such as during winter driving conditions, it may take time until the “READY” light
comes on.
■Sounds and vibrations specific to a hybrid vehicle

■Leak detection pump
Several hours after the hybrid system is turned off, you may hear a sound coming
from underneath the luggage compartment for several minutes. This is normal
operation and does not indicate a malfunction.

■Automatic light off system
The headlights and tail lights turn off 30 seconds after all doors are closed if the
power switch has been switched to “ACC” or turned “OFF” while the headlights are
turned on. (The lights turn off immediat ely if the button on the key is pressed
after all doors are locked.)
To turn the lights on again, switch to “IG-ON” mode, or turn the light switch “OFF”
once and then back to the or position.
■Automatic headlight leveling system
The level of the headlights is automatica lly adjusted according to the number of
passengers and the loading condition of the vehicle to ensure that the headlights do
not interfere with other road users.
■If the indicator flashes...
It may indicate a malfunction in the system. Contact your Lexus dealer.
■Customization
Settings (e.g. light sensor sensitivity) can be changed. ( P. 5 1 0 )
NOTICE
■To prevent 12 volt battery discharge
Do not leave the lights on longer than necessary when the hybrid system is off.

Touch any part of the screen if no icons are shown while watching
video, the following screen appears.
DVD video mode
If appears on the screen when yo u touch an icon, the operation rel-
