Safety Connect LED light Indicators
When the “POWER” switch is turned to ON mode, the red indicator
light comes on for 2 seconds then turns off. Afterward, the green indica-
tor light comes on, indicating that the service is active.
The following indicator light patterns indicate specific system usage con-
ditions:
●Green indicator light on = Active service
●Green indicator light flashing = Safety Connect call in process
●Red indicator light (except at vehicle start-up) = System malfunction
(contact your Lexus dealer)
●No indicator light (off) = Safety Connect service not active
Safety Connect services
■Automatic Collision Notification
In case of either airbag deployment or severe collision, the system is
designed to automatically call the response center. The responding
agent receives the vehicle’s location and attempts to speak with the
vehicle occupants to assess the level of emergency. If the occupants
are unable to communicate, the agent automatically treats the call as
an emergency, contacts the nearest emergency services provider to
describe the situation, and requests that assistance be sent to the loca-
tion.

CAUTION
The engine compartment contains many mechanisms and fluids that may move sud-
denly, become hot, or become electrically energized. To avoid death or serious injury,
observe the following precautions.
■When working on the engine compartment
●Make sure that the indicator on the “POWER” switch and the “READY” indicator
are both off.
●Keep hands, clothing, and tools away from the moving fan and engine drive belt.
●Be careful not to touch the engine, power control unit, radiator, exhaust manifold,
etc. right after driving as they may be hot. Oil and other fluids may also be hot.
●Do not leave anything that may burn easily, such as paper or rags, in the engine
compartment.
●Do not smoke, cause sparks or expose an open flame to fuel. Fuel fumes are flam-
mable.
■When working near the electric cooling fan or radiator grille
Be sure the “POWER” switch is OFF.
With the “POWER” switch in ON mode, the electric cooling fan may automatically
start to run if the air conditioning is on and/or the coolant temperature is high. 

■Safety glasses
Wear safety glasses to prevent flying or falling material, fluid spray, etc. from getting
in the eyes.
NOTICE
■If you remove the air cleaner filter
Driving with the air cleaner filter removed may cause excessive engine wear due to
dirt in the air. Also a backfire could cause a fire in the engine compartment.

■Engine oil consumption
●The amount of engine oil consumed depends on the oil viscosity, the quality of
the oil and the way the vehicle is driven.
●More oil is consumed under driving conditions such as high speeds, frequent
acceleration and deceleration.
●A new engine consumes more oil.
●When judging the amount of oil consumption, keep in mind that the oil may
have become diluted, making it difficult to judge the true level accurately.
●Oil consumption: Max. 1.1 qt./600 miles, 0.9 Imp.qt./600 miles (1.0 L per 1000
km). If the vehicle consumes more than this amount, contact your Lexus dealer.
■Resetting the engine oil maintenance data (U.S.A. only)
Perform the following steps:
Press the “DISP” switch (P. 169) to change the multi-information dis-
play to blank.
Turn the “POWER” switch to OFF.
Turn the “POWER” switch to ON mode with the trip meter reset button
held down.
Keep pressing the button for longer than 7 seconds after the “POWER”
switch is in ON mode.

After the above operation, the message
shown in the left will appear on the display.
The master warning light and tone will turn
on. After 5 seconds, the system reset is com-
pleted.

CAUTION
■Tire pressure warning system operation
The tire pressure warning system may not provide warning immediately if a tire
bursts or if sudden air leakage occurs.
■When inspecting or replacing tires
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents. Failure to do so may cause
damage to parts of the drive train, as well as dangerous handling characteristics,
which may lead to an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
●Do not mix tires of different makes, models or tread patterns.
Also, do not mix tires of remarkably different treadwear.
●Do not use tire sizes other than those recommended by Lexus.
●Do not mix differently constructed tires (radial, bias-belted or bias-ply tires).
●Do not mix summer, all season and winter tires.
●Do not use tires that have been used on another vehicle.
Do not use tires if you do not know how they were used previously.
■When initializing the tire pressure warning system
Do not push the tire pressure warning reset switch without first adjusting the tire
inflation pressure to the specified level. Otherwise, the tire pressure warning light
may not come on even if the tire inflation pressure is low, or it may come on when
the tire inflation pressure is actually normal.

Have the malfunction repaired immediately.
After taking the specified steps to correct the suspected problem, check
that the warning message and light turn off.

wise to open.

Put the shift lever in “P” and apply the brakes.
Touch the Lexus emblem side of
the electronic key to the
“POWER” switch.
An alarm will sound to indicate that

doors is opened and closed while
the key is touched to the switch.
To change the “POWER” switch modes: Within 10 seconds of the
buzzer sounding, release the brake pedal and press the
“POWER” switch. Modes can be changed each time the switch is
pressed. (

To start the hybrid system: Press the “POWER” switch within 10
seconds after the buzzer sounds, keeping the brake pedal
depressed.
If the “POWER” switch still cannot be operated, contact your Lexus
dealer.

■Starting the hybrid system when the 12 volt battery is discharged
The hybrid system cannot be started by push-starting.
■To prevent 12 volt battery discharge
●Turn off the headlights and the audio system while the hybrid system is off.
●Turn off any unnecessary electrical components when the vehicle is running at a
low speed for an extended period, such as in heavy traffic, etc.
■When the 12 volt battery is removed or discharged
The hybrid system may not start. (

Also, the intuitive parking assist must be initialized. (
P. 555)
Start the engine of the second vehicle. Increase the engine
speed slightly and maintain at that level for approximately 5
minutes to recharge the 12 volt battery of your vehicle.
Open and close any of the doors with the “POWER” switch is
OFF.
Maintain the engine speed on the second vehicle and turn the
“POWER” switch to the ON mode, then start the vehicle’s
hybrid system.
Make sure the “READY” light comes on. If the light does not
come on, contact your Lexus dealer.
Once the vehicle’s hybrid system has started, remove the
jumper cables in the exact reverse order in which they were
connected.
Once the hybrid system starts, have the vehicle checked at your Lexus
dealer as soon as possible.STEP4
