Driving
Opening the fuel tank cap
●Turn the engine switch off and ensure that all the doors and windows are
closed.
●Confirm the type of fuel.
■Fuel types
P. 570
■Fuel tank opening for unleaded gasoline
To help prevent incorrect fueling, your Lexu s has a fuel tank opening that only accommo-
dates the special nozzle on unleaded fuel pumps.
■If the malfunction indicator lamp illuminates
The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate erroneously if refueling is performed
repeatedly when the fuel tank is nearly full.
Perform the following steps to open the fuel tank cap.
Before refueling the vehicle

GX460_OM_OM60T19U_(U)
■Automatic mode for air intake control (vehicles with rear air conditioning system)
In automatic mode, the system detects exhaust gas and other pollutants and automati-
cally switches between outside air and recirculated air modes.
When the dehumidification function is off, and the fan is operating, turning automatic
mode on will activate the dehumidification function.
■When the outside temperature is low
The dehumidification function may not operate even when “A/C” is touched.
■Ventilation and air conditioning odors
●To let fresh air in, set the air conditioning system to the outside air mode.
●During use, various odors from inside and outside the vehicle may enter into and accu-
mulate in the air conditioning system. This may then cause odor to be emitted from the
vents.
●To reduce potential odors from occurring:
• It is recommended that the air conditioning system be set to outside air mode prior
to turning the vehicle off.
• The start timing of the blower may be dela yed for a short period of time immediately
after the air conditioning system is started in automatic mode.
■Air conditioning filter

■Air conditioning system refrigerant
●The meaning of each symbol on the label are as follows:
●A label regarding the refrigerant of the air
conditioning system is attached to the hood at
the location shown in the following illustration.

GX460_OM_OM60T19U_(U)6-1. Maintenance and care
■Cleaning the areas with satin-finish metal accents
The metal areas use a layer of real metal for th
e surface. It is necessary to clean them reg-
ularly. If dirty areas are left uncleaned for lo ng periods of time, they may be difficult to
clean.
■Caring for leather areas
Lexus recommends cleaning the interior of the vehicle at least twice a year to maintain
the quality of the vehicle’s interior.
■Shampooing the carpets
There are several commercial foaming-type cl eaners available. Use a sponge or brush to
apply the foam. Rub in overlapping circles. Do not use water. The excellent results are
obtained when keeping the ca rpet as dry as possible.
■Seat belts
Clean with mild soap and lukewarm water using a cloth or sponge. Also check the belts
periodically for excessive wear, fraying or cuts.
WARNING
■Water in the vehicle
●Do not splash or spill liquid in the vehicle.
Doing so may cause electrical components etc. to malfunction or catch fire.
●Do not get any of the SRS components or wiring in the vehicle interior wet. (P. 38)
An electrical malfunction ma y cause the airbags to deploy or not function properly,
resulting in death or serious injury.
■Cleaning the interior (especially instrument panel)
Do not use polish wax or polish cleaner. Th e instrument panel may reflect off the wind-
shield, obstructing the driver’s view and leading to an accident, resulting in death or
serious injury.
NOTICE
■Cleaning detergents
●Do not use the following types of detergent, as they may discolor the vehicle interior
or cause streaks or damage to painted surfaces:
• Non-seat portions: Organic substances su ch as benzene or gasoline, alkaline or
acidic solutions, dye, and bleach
• Seats: Alkaline or acidic solutions, su ch as thinner, benzene, and alcohol
●Do not use polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument pane l’s or other interior part’s
painted surface may be damaged.

Maintenance and care
■Use a CR2032 lithium battery
●Batteries can be purchased at your Lexus dealer, loca l electrical appliance shops or
camera stores.
●Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer.
●Dispose of used batteries according to the local laws.
■If the electronic key battery is depleted
The following symptoms may occur:
●The smart access system with push-button start and wireless remote control will not
function properly.
●The operational rang e will be reduced.
WARNING
■Battery precautions
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
●Do not swallow the battery. Doing so may cause chemical burns.
●A coin battery or button battery is used in the electronic key. If a battery is swallowed,
it may cause severe chemical burns in as li ttle as 2 hours and may result in death or
serious injury.
●Keep away new and remove d batteries from children.
●If the cover cannot be firmly closed, stop using the electronic key and stow the key in
the place where children cannot reach, and then contact your Lexus dealer.
●If you accidentally swallow a battery or put a battery into a part of your body, get
emergency medical attention immediately.
■To prevent battery explosion or leakage of flammable liquid or gas
●Replace the battery with a new battery of the same type. If a wrong type of battery is
used, it may explode.
●Do not expose batteries to extremely low pressure due to high altitude or extremely
high temperatures.
●Do not burn, break or cut a battery.
NOTICE
■For normal operation after replacing the battery
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents:
●Always work with dry hands.
Moisture may cause the battery to rust.
●Do not touch or move any other component inside the remote control.
●Do not bend either of the battery terminals.

■Engine number
The engine number is stamped on
the engine block as shown.
*: The engine oil capacity is a reference quantity to be used when changing the engine
oil. Warm up and turn off the engine, wait more than 5 minutes, and check the oil level
on the dipstick.

NOTICE
■Notice on fuel quality
●Do not use improper fuels. If improper fuels are used, the engine will be damaged.
●Do not use leaded gasoline.
Leaded gasoline can cause damage to your
vehicle’s three-way catalytic converters
causing the emission control system to malfunction.
●Do not use gasohol other than the type previously stated.
Other gasohol may cause fuel system damage or vehicle performance problems.
●Using unleaded gasoline with an octane numb er or rating lower than the level previ-
ously stated may cause pe rsistent heavy knocking.
At worst, this may lead to engine da mage and will void the vehicle warranty.
■Fuel-related poor driveability
If poor driveability (poor hot starting, vaporization, engine knocking, etc.) is encoun-
tered after using a different type of fuel, discontinue the use of that type of fuel.
■When refueling with gasohol
Take care not to spill gasohol. It can damage your vehicle’s paint.
