■If the windshield is fogged up while the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system
Turn on. (The engine will start due to the automatic engine start function.):

If the windshield fogs up frequently, press the Stop & Start cancel switch to disable the
system.
■Air conditioning system while the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system
While the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system, the air conditioning system
(cooling, heating and dehumidifying functions) is canceled and will only blow air or will
stop blowing air. In order to prevent the air conditioning system from being canceled, dis-
able the Stop & Start system by pressing the Stop & Start cancel switch.
■Changing the idling stop time with the air conditioning system on
The length of time the Stop & Start system will operate when the air conditioning system
is on can be changed by performing the followi ng operation. (The length of time the Stop
& Start system will operate when the air cond itioning system is off cannot be changed.)
●Setting by pressing and holding the Stop & Start cancel switch
Each time the Stop & Start cancel switch is pressed and held for 3 seconds or more, the
system changes between standard and extend ed. The system status can be confirmed
on the multi-information display screen. ( →P. 1 0 0 )
●Settings from the multi-information display
Press the < or > meter control switch ( →P. 101) and select .
Press the meter control switch to display the Stop & Start settings screen.
Press the ∧ or ∨ meter control switch to select Time Setting and then press .
Press the ∧ or ∨ meter control switch to select Standard or Extended and then press
.
■The Stop & Start system protection function
●When the volume of the audio system is excessively high, sound output from the audio
system may suddenly be cut off in order to reduce battery consumption. To prevent the
audio system from being cut off, keep the vo lume of audio system at a moderate level.
If the audio system has been cut off, turn the engine switch off, wait for 3 seconds or
more and then turn it to ACCESSORY mode or IGNITION ON mode to re-enable
the audio system.
●The audio system may not be activated if the battery terminals are disconnected and
then reconnected. If this occurs, turn the engine switch off and then turn it to IGNI-
TION ON mode and then off twice to activate the audio system.
■To prevent damage to the turbocharger
Allow the engine to idle immediately after driv ing at high speeds or long periods of uphill
driving. To allow the engine idle when the vehicle is stopped, disable the Stop & Start sys-
tem by pressing the Stop & Start cancel switch. ( →P. 233)

■Multi-information display messages
If the following situations, and a message may be displayed on the multi-informa-
tion display.
●When the engine cannot be stopped by the Stop & Start system
MessageDetails
“Depress Brake
Firmly to Activate.”
The brake pedal is not depressed enough. If the brake pedal is depressed further, the sys-
tem will operate.
“For Climate Con-
trol.”
• The air conditioning system is being used when the ambient temperature is high or low.
If the difference between the set temperature
and cabin temperature is small, the system will be
enabled.
• is ON.
“Battery Charging.”
• The battery charge amount may be low. Engine stop is temporarily prohibited to priori-
tize charging of the battery, but if the engine is
operated for a short while, engine stop is
allowed.
• A refresh charge may be occurring (Examples: A short time after replacing the battery, remov-
ing battery terminals, etc.)
After a refresh charge of approximately 30 to
60 minutes completes, the system can be oper-
ated.
• The engine may have been started with the hood opened.
Close the hood, turn the engine switch off, wait
for a short while, and then start the engine.
• The battery may be cold. Operating the engine for a short while allows the
system to recover due to the temperature
increase in the engine compartment.
• The battery may be extremely hot.
If the engine is stopped and the engine compart-
ment is allowed to cool sufficiently, the system
recovers.
“For Brake System.”
• The vehicle is being driven in a high altitude area.
• The brake booster vacuum is low. When the brake booster vacuum reaches a pre-
determined level, the system will be enabled.
“Driver Seat Belt
Unbuckled.”
The driver seat belt is not fastened.

●When the engine automatically restarts while stopped by the Stop & Start system
■Stop & Start system warning messages
If a system malfunction occurs, a warning message will be displayed on the multi-infor-
mation display to inform the driver of the need for caution. ( →P. 5 1 2 )
■If the Stop & Start cancel indicator continues to flash
The system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional. “Non-Dedicated
Battery.”
A non-dedicated battery for the Stop & Start sys-
tem may have been installed.
The Stop & Start system does not operate. Have
the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.

• The air conditioning system has been turned on or is being used.

charging. Operating the engine for a short while
allows the system to recover.
“Steering Wheel
Tu r n e d . ”
The steering wheel was operated.
“Driver Seat Belt
Unbuckled.”
The driver seat belt has been unfastened.

■Turning off both TRC and VSC systems
To turn the TRC and VSC systems off, press and hold or for more than 3
seconds while the vehicle is stopped.
The VSC OFF indicator light will come on and the “TRC OFF” will be shown on the
multi-information display.

Press or again to turn the systems back on.
*: On vehicles with pre-crash safety system, pre-crash brake assist and pre-crash brak-
ing will also be disabled. The pre-crash safe ty system warning light will come on and
the message will be shown on the multi-information display. ( →P. 2 9 1 )
■When the message is displayed on the mult i-information display showing that TRC has
been disabled even if the VSC OFF switch has not been pressed
TRC cannot be operated. Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another
duly qualified and equipped professional.
■When the battery is disconnected
The steering wheel may move from its straight forward position, but this will be corrected
automatically when driving.
■Sounds and vibrations caused by the ABS, brake assist, TRC, VSC and hill-start assist
control systems
●A sound may be heard from the engine compartment when the brake pedal is
depressed repeatedly, when the engine is started or just after the vehicle begins to
move. This sound does not indicate that a ma lfunction has occurred in any of these sys-
tems.
●Any of the following conditions may occu r when the above systems are operating.
None of these indicates that a malfunction has occurred.
• Vibrations may be felt through the vehicle body and steering.
• A motor sound may be heard after the vehicle comes to a stop.
• The brake pedal may pulsate slig htly after the ABS is activated.
• The brake pedal may move down s lightly after the ABS is activated.
■EPS operation sound
When the steering wheel is operated, a motor sound may be heard. This does not indi-
cate a malfunction.
■Automatic reactivation of TRC and VSC systems
After turning the TRC and VSC systems off, the systems will be automatically re-enabled
in the following situations:
●When the engine switch is turned off
●If only the TRC system is turned off, the TRC will turn on when vehicle speed increases
If both the TRC and VSC systems are turned off, automatic re-enabling will not occur
when vehicle speed increases.

●Use fluids that are appropriate to the prevailing outside temperatures.
•Engine oil
• Engine coolant
•Washer fluid
●Have a service technician inspect the condition of the battery.
●Have the vehicle fitted with four snow tires or purchase a set of tire chains for
the rear tires.

Ensure that all tires are the specified size and brand, and that chains match the size
of the tires.
*: Tire chains cannot be mounted on the 18-inch tires.
Perform the following according to the driving conditions:
●Do not try to forcibly open a window or move a wiper that is frozen. Pour
warm water over the frozen area to melt the ice. Wipe away the water imme-
diately to prevent it from freezing.
●To ensure proper operation of the climate control system fan, remove any
snow that has accumulated on the air inlet vents in front of the windshield.
●Check for and remove any excess ice or snow that may have accumulated on
the exterior lights, vehicle’s roof, chassis, around the tires or on the brakes.
●Remove any snow or mud from the bottom of your shoes before getting in the
vehicle.
Accelerate the vehicle slowly, keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle
ahead, and drive at a reduced speed suitable to road conditions.
Winter driving tips
Carry out the necessary preparations and inspections before driving the vehi-
cle in winter. Always drive the vehicle in a manner appropriate to the prevail-
ing weather conditions.

■When using the screen
●Under extremely cold conditions, the Lexus Display Audio controller may react slowly.
●If the screen is cold, the display may be dark, or the system may seem to be operating
slightly slower than normal.
●The screen may seem dark and hard to see when viewed through sunglasses. Change
your angle of viewing, adjust the display on the “Display” screen (→P. 328) or remove
your sunglasses.
■Using cellular phones
Interference may be heard through the audio system's speakers if a cellular phone is
being used inside or close to the vehicle while the audio system is operating.
CAUTION
■Using the Lexus Display Audio controller
Be careful when touching the Lexus Display Audio controller in extreme temperatures
as it may become very hot or cold due to the temperature inside the vehicle.
■Laser product
This product is a class 1 laser product.
Do not open the cover of the player or attempt to repair the unit yourself. Refer servic-
ing to qualified personnel.
NOTICE
■To prevent Lexus Display Audio controller malfunction
●Do not allow the Lexus Display Audio contro ller to come into contact with food, liq-
uid, stickers or lit cigarettes as doing so may cause it to change color, emit a strange
odor or stop functioning.
●Do not subject the Lexus Display Audio controller to excessive pressure or strong
impact as the controller may bend or break off.
■To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the audio system on longer than necessary when the engine is off.
■To avoid damaging the audio system
Take care not to spill drinks or other fluids on the audio system.

●It may take time to display iPod cover art, and the iPod may not be operated while the
cover art display is in process.
■iPod functions
●When an iPod is connected and the audio source is changed to iPod mode, the iPod will
resume play from the same point in which it was last used.
●Depending on the iPod that is connected to the system, certain functions may not be
available. If a function is unavailable due to a malfunction (as opposed to a system spec-
ification), disconnecting the device and reconnecting it may resolve the problem.
●Depending on the iPod, while connected to the system, the iPod cannot be operated
with its own controls. It is necessary to use the controls of the vehicle's audio system
instead.
●When the battery level of an iPod is very low, the iPod may not operate. If so, charge the
iPod before use.

■Error messages
