â– System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type alarm system.
â– Points to remember before locking the doors
To prevent unexpected triggering of the alarm, make sure to check the following
before locking the doors:
â—ŹNobody is in the vehicle.
â—ŹThe windows and moon roof are closed before the alarm is set.
â—ŹThe alarm system does not guarantee absolute security. To help prevent theft,
make sure to check that no valuables and so forth are left in the vehicle.
â– Unexpected triggering of the alarm
In the following situations, perform an operation that will deactivate or stop the
alarm (→P. 9 2 )
â– When the battery is disconnected
Be sure to deactivate the alarm system.
If the battery is disconnected before deactivating the alarm system, the alarm may
be triggered when the battery is reconnected.
â—ŹWhen someone without a key is left in the
vehicle and the doors are locked.
When a door, the trunk or hood is opened
from inside the vehicle, the alarm may be
triggered.
â—ŹWhen the battery is recharged or
replaced, due to battery discharge and so

IS350/250_U
CAUTION
â– When starting the engine
Always start the engine while sitting in the driver’s seat. Do not press the accelera-
tor while starting the engine under any circumstances.
Doing so may cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
â– Stopping the engine in an emergency
If you want to stop the engine in an emergency while driving the vehicle, push and
hold the “ENGINE START STOP” switch for more than 3 seconds.
However, do not touch the “ENGINE START STOP” switch while driving except in
an emergency. Turning the engine off while driving will not cause loss of steering or
braking control, but the power assist to these systems will be lost. This will make it
more difficult to steer and brake, so you should pull over and stop the vehicle as
soon as it is safe to do so.
NOTICE
â– To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the “ENGINE START STOP” switch in ACCESSORY or IGNITION
ON mode for long periods without the engine running.
â– When starting the engine
â—ŹDo not race a cold engine.
â—ŹIf the engine becomes difficult to start or stalls frequently, have the engine

Winter driving tips
Carry out the necessary preparations and inspections before driving the
vehicle in winter. Always drive the vehicle in a manner appropriate to the
prevailing weather conditions.
â– Pre-winter preparations
â—Ź Use fluids that are appropriate to the prevailing outside tempera-
tures.
• Engine oil
• Engine coolant
• Washer fluid
â—Ź Have a service technician inspect the level and specific gravity of
battery electrolyte.
â—Ź Have the vehicle fitted with four snow tires or purchase a set of
tire chains for the rear tires.
Ensure that all tires are the specified size and the same brand, and that
chains match the size of the tires.
â– Before driving the vehicle
Perform the following according to the driving conditions.
â—Ź Do not try to forcibly open a window or move a wiper that is fro-
zen. Pour warm water over the frozen area to melt the ice. Wipe
away the water immediately to prevent it from freezing.
â—Ź To ensure proper operation of the climate control system fan,
remove any snow that has accumulated on the air inlet vents in
front of the windshield.
â—Ź Remove any ice that has accumulated on the vehicle chassis.
â—Ź Periodically check for and remove any excess ice or snow that
may have accumulated in the wheel well or on the brakes.

Interior features
IS350/250_U
â– Automatic mode for air intake control (IS350 only)
In automatic mode, the system detects exhaust gas and other pollutants and auto-
matically switches between outside air and recirculated air modes.
â– Micro dust and pollen filter
â—ŹIn order to prevent the windshield from fogging up when the outside air is cold,
the following may occur.
• Outside air mode does not switch to .
• The air conditioning system operates automatically.
• The operation cancels after 1 minute.
â—ŹIn rainy weather, the windows may fog up. Press .
â– Air conditioning odors
â—ŹDuring use, various odors from inside and outside the vehicle may enter into
and accumulate in the air conditioning system. This may then cause odor to be
emitted from the vents.
â—ŹTo reduce potential odors from occurring:
• It is recommended that the air conditioning system be set to outside air mode
prior to turning the vehicle off.
• The start timing of the blower may be delayed for a short period of time immediately after the air conditioning system is started in automatic mode.
CAUTION
â– To prevent the windshield from fogging up
Do not use during cool air operation in extremely humid weather. The dif-
ference between the temperature of the outside air and that of the windshield can
cause the outer surface of the windshield to fog up, blocking your vision.
NOTICE
â– To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the air conditio ning system on longer than necessary when the engine
is off.

â– When the battery is disconnected
Station presets are erased.
â– Reception sensitivity
â—ŹMaintaining perfect radio reception at all times is difficult due to the continually
changing position of the antenna, differences in signal strength and surrounding
objects, such as trains, transmitters, etc.
â—ŹThe radio antenna is mounted inside the rear window. To maintain clear radio
reception, do not attach metallic window tinting or other metallic objects to the
antenna wire mounted inside the rear window.
