NOTICE
■To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing using a wheel-lift type truck
●Do not tow the vehicle from the rear when the power switch is off. The steering lock
mechanism is not strong enough to hold the front wheels straight.
●When raising the vehicle from the rear, ensure adequate ground clearance for towing
at the opposite end of the raised vehicle. Without adequate clearance, the vehicle
could be damaged while being towed from the rear.
■To prevent body damage when towing with a sling-type truck
Do not tow with a sling-type truck, either from the front or rear.

entry & start system

repairer, or another duly quali-
fied and equipped professional.

with the mechanical key and then

• The electronic key could not be
detected in the vehicle even after

consecutive times.
→Touch the electronic key to the
power switch while depressing
the brake pedal.

cedure in the event that the elec-
tronic key was not functioning

Indicates that:
• With the power switch off, the
doors were unlocked and then the
driver’s door was opened and
closed;
• The power switch was turned to
ACCESSORY mode without
starting the hybrid system; or
• The shift lever was shifted to P
from another position with the
power switch in ON mode.
→Press the power switch while
depressing the brake pedal.
Once
The power switch has been turned
off with the shift lever in a position
other than P.
→Shift the shift lever to P.
Once
After the power switch has been
turned off with the shift lever in a
position other than P, the shift lever
has been shifted to P.

Power was turned off due to the
automatic power off function.
→Next time when starting the
hybrid system, increase the
engine speed slightly and main-
tain that level for approximately
5 minutes to recharge the 12-
volt battery.

Take out the repair kit from the tool box.
Remove the valve cap from the valve
of the punctured tire.
Remove the protective film from the
bottle and extend the hose. Remove
the air release cap from the hose.
Attach the sticker enclosed with the bot-
tle on the specified locations. (See step
9. )
You will use the air release cap again.
Therefore keep it in a safe place.
Connect the hose to the valve.
Screw the end of the hose clockwise as
far as possible.

One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●The electronic key may not be functioning properly. (→P. 545)
●There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle.
●There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system. (→P. 9 0 )
●There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system.
●The hybrid system may be malfunctioning due to an electrical problem such
as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. However, depending on
the type of malfunction, an interim measure is available to start the hybrid sys-
tem. (→P. 5 4 2 )
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●The 12-volt battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
●The 12-volt battery may be discharged. (→P. 5 4 7 )
If the hybrid system will not start
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on the situation.
Check the following and perform the appropriate procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starting proce-
dure is being followed. (→P. 209)
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not sound or
sounds at a low volume.

Set the parking brake.
Turn the power switch to ACCESSORY mode.
Depress the brake pedal.
Pry the cover up with a flathead
screwdriver or equivalent tool.
To prevent damage to the cover, cover
the tip of the screwdriver with a rag.
Press the shift lock override button.
The shift lever can be shifted while the
button is pressed.
If the shift lever cannot be shifted from P
If the shift lever cannot be shifted with your foot on the brake pedal, there may
be a problem with the shift lock system (a system to prevent accidental opera-
tion of the shift lever). Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional imme-
diately.
The following steps may be used as an emergency measure to ensure that the
shift lever can be shifted:

■Doors
Use the mechanical key (→P. 131) in
order to perform the following oper-
ations:
Locks all the doors
Closes the windows and moon
roof (turn and hold)

Unlocks all the doors
Opens the windows and moon roof (turn and hold)

: This setting must be customized at any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional.

Turn the mechanical key clockwise
to open.
If the electronic key does not operate properly
If communication between the electronic key and vehicle is interrupted (→P.
151) or the electronic key cannot be used because the battery is depleted, the
smart entry & start system and wireless remote control cannot be used. In
such cases, the doors and trunk can be opened and the hybrid system can be
started by following the procedure below.
Locking and unlocking the doors, unlocking the trunk and key linked

■Stopping the hybrid system
Shift the shift lever to P and press the power switch as you normally do when stopping the
hybrid system.
■Replacing the key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary measure, it is recommended that the electronic
key battery be replaced immediately when the battery is depleted. (→P. 4 7 1 )
■Alarm (if equipped)
Using the mechanical key to lock the doors will not set the alarm system.
If a door is unlocked using the mechanical key when the alarm system is set, the alarm
may be triggered.
■Changing power switch modes
Release the brake pedal and press the power switch in step above.
The hybrid system does not start and modes will be changed each time the switch is
pressed. (→P. 2 1 0 )
■When the electronic key does not work properly
●Make sure that the smart entry & start system has not been deactivated in the customi-
zation setting. If it is off, turn the function on.

●Check if battery-saving mode is set. If it is set, cancel the function. (→P. 1 5 0 )
CAUTION
■When using the mechanical key and operating the power windows and moon roof
Operate the power window or moon roof after checking to make sure that there is no
possibility of any passenger having any of their body parts caught in the window or
moon roof. Also, do not allow children to operate the mechanical key. It is possible for
children and other passengers to get caught in power window and moon roof.
