Extend/retract
■Operating conditions
●The power switch is in ON mode.
●The rear windows are fully closed.
The rear door sunshades automatically retract when the rear windows are opened.
■Operating the rear door sunshades after turning the hybrid system off
The rear door sunshades can be operated for approximately 60 seconds even after
the power switch is switched to ACCESSORY mode or turned off.
■Jam protection function
If an object becomes caught between a rear door sunshade and the window frame,
the jam protection function will cause the sunshade to detach from its drive mecha-
nism and retract.
If the jam protection function operates when extending the rear door sunshades
Pressing the button will reconnect the sunshade.
Pressing the button again will allow the sunshades to be operated.
If the sunshade does not op erate after the button is pressed, press the button again.
If the jam protection function operates when retracting the rear door sunshades
Press and hold the button to re-extend the rear door sunshades, and continue press-
ing for more than 5 seconds after the su nshades have fully extended and stopped.
■Button lock function
To prevent inadvertent operation, some butt ons on the rear controller can be locked.

■When reconnecting the 12-volt battery
The rear door sunshades will always be re tracted the first time the button is pressed.

The garage door opener (HomeLink Universal Transceiver) is manufac-
tured under license from HomeLink
.
The HomeLink
 compatible transceiver in your vehicle has 3 buttons
which can be programmed to operate 3 different devices. Refer to the
programming method below appropriate for the device.

Point the remote control trans-
mitter for the device 1 to 3 in.
(25 to 75 mm) from the
HomeLink
 control buttons.
Keep the HomeLink indicator
light in view while programming.
Garage door opener
The garage door opener can be programmed to operate garage doors,
gates, entry doors, door locks, home lighting systems, security systems,
and other devices.

Press and hold the vehicle’s programmed HomeLink button for 2
seconds and release it. Repeat this step once again. The garage door
may open.
If the garage door opens, the programming process is complete. If the door
does not open, press and release the button a third time. This third press
and release will complete the programming process by opening the
garage door.
The ceiling mounted garage door open er motor should now recognize the
HomeLink
 signal and operate the garage door.
Repeat the steps above to program another rolling code system for
any of the remaining HomeLink
 buttons.
■Programming an entry gate (for U.S.A. owners)/Programming all
devices in the Canadian market
Place your transmitter 1 to 3 in. (2 5 to 75 mm) away from the surface
of the HomeLink
.
Keep the HomeLink indicator light in view while programming.
Press and hold the selected HomeLink button.
Repeatedly press and release (c ycle) the device’s remote control
button for two seconds each until step 4 is completed.
When the indicator light on the HomeLink
 compatible transceiver
starts to flash rapidl y, release the buttons.
Test the operation of the HomeLink
 by pressing the newly pro-
grammed button. Check to see if the gate/device operates correctly.
Repeat the steps above to progra m another device for each of the
remaining HomeLink
 buttons.
■Programming other devices
To program other devices such as home security systems, home door
locks or lighting, contact your Lexus dealer for assistance.
■Reprogramming a button
The individual HomeLink
 buttons cannot be erased but can be repro-
grammed. To reprogram a button, follow the “Reprogramming a
HomeLink
 button” instructions.

CAUTION
■If the hybrid system is operating
Turn the hybrid system off and ensure that there is adequate ventilation before per-
forming maintenance checks.

Pull the hood lock release lever.
The hood will pop up slightly.
Pull up the auxiliary catch lever
and lift the hood.
Hood
Release the lock from the inside of the vehicle to open the hood.

CAUTION
■Pre-driving check
Check that the hood is fully closed and locked.
If the hood is not locked properly, it may open while the vehicle is in motion and
cause an accident, which may result in death or serious injury.

■Adding engine oil
If the oil level is below or near the
low level mark, add engine oil of
the same type as that already in
the engine.
Make sure to check the oil type and prepare the items needed before
adding oil.
Remove the oil filler cap by turning it counterclockwise.
Add engine oil slowly, checking the dipstick.
Install the oil filler cap by turning it clockwise.

■If the tread on snow tires wears down below 0.16 in. (4 mm)
The effectiveness of the tires as snow tires is lost.
■Situations in which the tire pressure warning system may not operate properly
●In the following cases, the tire pressure warning system may not operate properly.
• If non-genuine Lexus wheels are used.
• A tire has been replaced with a tire that is not an OE (Original Equipment) tire.
• A tire has been replaced with a tire that is not of the specified size.
• Tire chains etc. are equipped.
• Lock nuts are equipped.
• An auxiliary-supported run- flat tire is equipped.
• If a window tint that affects the radio wave signals is installed.
• If there is a lot of snow or ice on the vehicle, particularly around the wheels or wheel housings.
• If the tire inflation pressure is extremely higher than the specified level.
• If the spare tire is in a location subject to poor radio wave signal reception.

• If a large metallic object which can interfere with signal reception is put in the trunk.
*
• If tires not equipped with tire pressure warning valves and transmitters are used.
• If the ID code on the tire pressure warn ing valves and transmitters is not regis-
tered in the tire pressure warning computer.
*: Vehicles with a spare tire
●Performance may be affected in the following situations.
• Near a TV tower, electric power plant, gas station, radio station, large display,
airport or other facility that generates strong radio waves or electrical noise
• When carrying a portable radio, cellular phone, cordless phone or other wire- less communication device
If tire position information is not correc tly displayed due to the radio wave condi-
tions, the display may be corrected by driving and changing the radio wave condi-
tions.
●When the vehicle is parked, the time taken for the warning to start or go off could
be extended.
●When tire inflation pressure declines rapi dly for example when a tire has burst, the
warning may not function.

■While towing
If the hybrid system is off, the power assist for the brakes and steering will not func-
tion, making steering and braking more difficult.
■Wheel nut wrench
Wheel nut wrench is installed in trunk. (P. 5 0 7 , 5 1 6 )
CAUTION
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
■When towing the vehicle
■While towing
●When towing using a cables or chains, avoid sudden starts, etc. which place
excessive stress on the towing eyelets, cables or chains. The towing eyelets,
cables or chains may become damaged, broken debris may hit people and cause
serious damage.
●Do not turn the power switch off.
There is a possibility that the steering wheel is locked and cannot be operated.
■Installing towing eyelet to the vehicle
Make sure that towing eyel et is installed securely.
If not securely installed, towing eyelet may come loose during towing.
Be sure to transport the vehicle with all four
wheels raised off the ground. If the vehicle is
towed with the tires contacting the ground,
the drivetrain or related parts may be dam-
aged, the vehicle may fly off the truck, or
electricity generated by the operation of the
motor may cause a fire to occur depending
on the nature of the damage or malfunction.

When trouble arises

One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●The electronic key may not be functioning properly. (P. 5 2 6 )
●There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle.
●There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system. ( P. 8 8 )
●There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system.
●The hybrid system may be malfunctio ning due to an electrical problem
such as electronic key battery de pletion or a blown fuse. However,
depending on the type of malfuncti on, an interim measure is available
to start the hybrid system. ( P. 5 1 8 )
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●The 12-volt battery may be discharged. ( P. 5 2 7 )
●The 12-volt battery terminal connecti ons may be loose or corroded.
If the hybrid system will not start
Reasons for the hybrid system not st arting vary depending on the situa-
tion. Check the following and perf orm the appropriate procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starting
procedure is being followed. ( P. 2 1 6 )
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not
sound or sounds at a low volume.
