Selecting trailer ballUse the correct trailer ball for your application. Trailer ball load rating
Matches or exceeds the gross
trailer weight rating of the trailer.
Ball diameter
Matches the size of the trailer cou-
pler. Most couplers are stamped
with the required trailer ball size.
Shank length
Protrudes beyond the bottom of
the lock washer and nut at least 2
threads.
Shank diameter
Matches the ball mount hole diam-
eter size.

●Due to the added load of the trailer, your vehicle’s engine may overheat
on hot days (at temperatures over 85
F[30C] when driving up a long
or steep grade. If the engine coolant temperature gauge indicates
overheating, immediately turn off th e air conditioning (if in use), pull
your vehicle off the road and stop in a safe spot. (
P. 363)
● Always place wheel blocks under both the vehicle and the trailer
wheels when parking. Apply the pa rking brake firmly, and put the
transmission in P. Avoid parking on a slope, but if unavoidable, do so
only after performing the following:
Apply the brakes and keep them applied.
Have someone place wheel blocks under both the vehicle and
trailer wheels.
When the wheel blocks are in pl ace, release the brakes slowly
until the blocks absorb the load.
Apply the parking brake firmly.
Shift into “P” and turn off the engine.
● When restarting after parking on a slope:
With the transmission in the “P” position, start the engine. Be sure
to keep the brake pedal pressed.
Shift into 3, 2, 1, or “R” position (if reversing).
Release the parking brake and br ake pedal, and slowly pull or
back away from the wheel blocks. Stop and apply the brakes.
Have someone retrieve the blocks.

Interior features
CAUTION
■To prevent the windshield from fogging up
Do not use during cool air operation in extremely humid weather. The dif-
ference between the temperature of the outside air and that of the windshield can
cause the outer surface of the windshield to fog up, blocking your vision.
NOTICE
■To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the automatic air conditioning system on longer than necessary when
the engine is stopped.

Garage door opener
The garage door opener (HomeLink Universal Transceiver) is manufactured
under license from HomeLink.
Programming the HomeLink (for U.S.A. owners)
The HomeLink
 compatible transceiver in your vehicle has 3 buttons
which can be programmed to operate 3 different devices. Refer to the
programming method below appropriate for the device.
Buttons

Point the remote control for the
device 1 to 3 in . (25 to 75 mm)
from the HomeLink

Keep the indicator light on the
HomeLink in view while pro-
gramming.
The garage door opener can be pr ogrammed to operate garage doors,
gates, entry doors, door locks, home lighting systems, and security systems,
and other devices.

Test the operation of the HomeLink by pressing the newly pro-
grammed button. Check to see if the gate/device operates cor-
rectly.
Repeat the steps above to program another device for each of
the remaining HomeLink
 buttons.
■ Programming other devices
To program other devices such as home security systems, home door
locks or lighting, contact your au thorized Lexus dealer for assistance.
■ Reprogramming a button
The individual HomeLink
 buttons cannot be erased but can be
reprogrammed. To reprogram a butto n, follow the “Programming the
HomeLink
” instructions.
Operating the HomeLink
Press the appropriate HomeLink button. The HomeLink indicator
light on the HomeLink transceiver should turn on.
The HomeLink continues to send a signal fo r up to 20 seconds as long as
the button is pressed.
Erasing the entire HomeLink memory (all three programs)
Press and hold down the 2 outside
buttons for 20 seconds until the
indicator light flashes.
If you sell your vehicle, be sure to
erase the programs stored in the
HomeLink
 memory.
