Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury. ■
When towing the vehicle
■
While towing ●
When towing using cables or chains, avoid sudden starts, etc. which place excessive
stress on the towing hooks, cables or chai ns. The towing hooks, cables or chains may
become damaged, broken debris may hit people and cause serious damage. ●
Do not turn the engine switch off.
There is a possibility that the steering wheel is locked and cannot be operated.Be sure to transport the vehicle with all four
wheels raised off the ground. If the vehicle is
towed with the tires contacting the ground, the
drivetrain or related parts may be damaged,
the vehicle may fly off the truck.

When trouble arises NOTICE ■
To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing using a wheel-lift type truck●
Do not tow the vehicle from the rear when the engine switch is off. The steering lock
mechanism is not strong enough to hold the front wheels straight. ●
When raising the vehicle, en sure adequate ground cleara nce for towing at the oppo-
site end of the raised vehicle. Without ad equate clearance, the vehicle could be dam-
aged while being towed. ■
To prevent damage to the vehicle wh en towing with a sling-type truck
Do not tow with a sling-type truck, either from the front or rear. ■
To prevent damage to the ve hicle during emergency towing
Do not secure cables or chains to the suspension components. ■
To avoid serious damage to your vehicle
Do not use the rear emergency towing hook.

If you think something is wrong ●
Fluid leaks under the vehicle
(Water dripping from the air co nditioning after use is normal)●

Fuel pump shut off system Follow the procedure below to restart the engine after the system is activated.
Turn the engine switch to A CCESSORY mode or turn it off.
Restart the engine.To minimize the risk of fuel leakage wh en the engine stalls or when an airbag
inflates upon collision, the fuel pump shut off system stops the supply of fuel to
the engine.
NOTICE ■
Before starting the engine
Inspect the ground under the vehicle.
If you find that fuel has leaked onto the ground, the fuel system has been damaged and
is in need of repair. Do not restart the engine.1

If a warning light turns on or a warning buzzer
sounds Calmly perform the following actions if any of the warning lights comes on or
flashes. If a light comes on or flashes, but then goes off, this does not necessar-
ily indicate a malfunction in the system . However, if this continues to occur,
have the vehicle inspecte d by your Lexus dealer.

Indicates that:
• The brake fluid level is low; or
• The brake system is malfunctioning.
→ Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact your
Lexus dealer. Continuing to drive the vehicle may be dangerous.
Charging system warning light
Indicates a malfunction in the vehicle’s charging system
→ Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact your
Lexus dealer. (U.S.A.)

Malfunction indicator lamp
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The emission control system;
• The electronic engine control system;
• The electronic throttle control system; or
• The electronic automatic transmission control system
→ Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately.
SRS warning light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The SRS airbag system; or
• The front passenger occupant classification system; or
• The seat belt pretensioner system
→ Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately. (U.S.A.)

Indicates a malfunction in:
• The ABS; or
• The brake assist system

: Brake system warning buzzer:
The buzzer sounds to indicate that the brake fluid level is low (with the vehicle
reached a speed of 3 mph [5 km/h]).

: Open door warning buzzer:
The open door warning buzzer sounds to alert one or more of the doors is not fully
closed (with the vehicle having reached a speed of 3mph [5 km/h]).

: Driver’s seat belt buzzer:
The driver’s seat belt buzzer sounds to alert the driver that his or her seat belt is not
fastened. Once the engine switch is turned to IGNITION ON mode, the buzzer
sounds for 6 seconds. If the vehicle reaches a speed of 12 mph (20 km/h), the buzzer
sounds once. If the seat belt is still unfast ened after 24 seconds, the buzzer will sound
intermittently for 10 seconds. Then, if the se at belt is still unfa stened, the buzzer will
sound in a different tone for 20 more seconds.
Front passenger’s seat belt buzzer:
The front passenger’s seat belt buzzer soun ds to alert the front passenger that his or
her seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer so unds once if the vehicle reaches a speed of
12 mph (20 km/h). If the seat belt is still unfastened after 24 se conds, the buzzer will
sound intermittently for 10 se conds. Then, if the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer
will sound in a different to ne for 20 more seconds.

: Parking brake engaged warning buzzer:
A buzzer sounds to indicate that the par king brake is still engaged (with the vehicle
having reached a speed of 3 mph [5 km/h]). Brake system warning light

SRS warning light
This warning light system monitors the airbag sensor assembly, front impact sensors, side
impact sensors (rear), side imp act sensors (front d oor), safing sensor (rear), driver’s seat
belt buckle switch, driver’s se at position sensor, front passeng er’s seat belt buckle switch,
airbags, interconnecting wiring and power so urces, front passenger occupant classifica-
tion system, “AIR BAG ON” and “AIR BAG OFF” indicator lights, seat belt pretensioners
and force limiters. ( → P. 38)■
Front passenger detection sensor, seat belt reminder and warning buzzer●
If luggage is placed on the front passenger seat, the front passenger detection sensor
may cause the warning light to flash and the warning buzzer to sound even if a passen-
ger is not sittin g in the seat.●
If a cushion is placed on the seat, the sens or may not detect a passenger, and the warn-
ing light may not operate properly. ■
If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
First check the following: ●
Is the fuel tank empty?
If it is, fill the fu el tank immediately.●
Is the fuel tank cap loose?
If it is, tighten it securely.
The light will go off after several driving trips.
If the light does not go off even after severa l trips, contact your Lexus dealer as soon as
possible. ■
If the low speed four-wheel driv e indicator light or the center differential lock indicator
light blinks
Take the specified steps. ( → P. 305)
If the brake system warning light or the malf unction indicator light also comes on, or the
low speed four-wheel drive indicator light or the center differential lock indicator light
continues to blink afte r taking the specified steps, ther e may be a malfunction in the
engine, the brake system or the four-wheel dr ive system. In this case, you may not be able
to transfer between “H4” and “L4” modes, an d the center differential lock may not be
able to be locked or unlocked. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer, immedi-
ately.

When the tire pressure warning light comes on
Inspect the tires to check if a tire is punctured.
If a tire is punctured: → P. 532
If none of the tires are punctured:
Turn the engine switch off then turn it to IGNITION ON mode. Check if the tire pressure
warning light comes on or flashes. 
If the tire pressure warning light comes on
After the temperature of the tires has lowere d sufficiently, check the inflation pressure
of each tire and adjust th em to the specified level.
If the warning light does not turn off even after several minutes have elapsed, check
that the inflation pressure of each tire is at the specified level an d perform initialization.

If the warning light does not turn off even after several minutes have elapsed, have the
vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately. 
If the tire pressure wa rning light flashes for 1 minute then stay on
There may be a malfunction in the tire pressure warnin g system. Have the vehicle
inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately. ■
The tire pressure warning light ma y turn on due to natural causes
The tire pressure warning light may turn on du e to natural causes such as natural air leaks
or tire inflation pressure changes caused by temperature. In this case, adjusting the tire
inflation pressure will turn off the warning light (after a few minutes).■
When a tire is replaced with a spare tire
The spare tire is also equipped with the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter. The
tire pressure warning light will tu rn on if the tire inflation pressu re of the spare tire is low. If
a tire goes flat, even though the flat tire is replaced with the spare tire, the tire pressure
warning light does not turn off. Replace the spare tire with the repaired tire and adjust the
proper tire inflation pressure. The tire pressu re warning light will tu rn off after a few min-
utes. ■
Conditions that the tire pressure wa rning system may not function properly

Changing the engine oil
Make sure to reset oil change system ■
Warning buzzer
In some cases, the buzzer ma y not be heard due to being in a noisy location or audio

If “See Owner’s Manual” is shown ●
If “Smart Access System Ma lfunction” is shown, this may be a malfunction.
Immediately have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer. ●
If “Transmission Fluid Temp High” is shown, it indicates that the automatic transmission
fluid temperature is too high.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place, shift the shift lever to P and wait until the
warning message and light go off. If the warning message and light go off, you may
start the vehicle again. If the warning message and light do not go off, contact your
Lexus dealer. ■
If “Shift to P Before Ex iting Vehicle” is shown
Message is displayed when the driver’s door is opened without turning the engine switch
to off with the shift lever in any position other than P.
Shift the shift lever to P. ■
If “Power Turned Off to Save Battery” is shown
Power was turned off due to the automatic power off function.
Next time when starting the engine, increase the engine speed slig htly and maintain that
level for approximately 5 minu tes to recharge the battery.■
When a message that indicates the need for the shift lever operation is shown
To prevent the shift lever from being operat ed incorrectly or the vehicle from moving
unexpectedly, a message that re quires shifting the shift leve r may be shown on the multi-
information display. In that case, follow the instruction of the message and shift the shift
lever. ■
When “Headlight System Malfunction Visit Your Dealer” is displayed on the multi-
information display
The following systems may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus
dealer. ●
The LED headlight system ●
The automatic headlight leveling system ●
Automatic High Beam ■
If “Forward Camera System Unavailable” or “Forward Camera System Unavailable
Clean Windshield” is displayed (if equipped)
The following systems may be suspended until the problem shown in the message is
resolved. ●
PCS (Pre-Collision System) ●
LDA (Lane Departure Alert) ●
Dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range ●
Automatic High Beam ■
If “Engine Oil Level Low” is shown
Indicates that engine oil level is low.
Check the level of engine oil, and add if necessary.
This message may appe ar if the vehicle is stopped on a slope.
Move the vehicle to a level surface and check to see if the message disappears.

“Turn Assist Function Not Available Activate Crawl Control”■
If “Maintenance Required Soon” is shown (U.S.A. only)
Indicates that all maintenance according to the driven distance on the maintenance
schedule
* should be performed soon.
Comes on approximately 4500 miles (7200 k m) after the message has been reset.
If necessary, perform maintenance.
* : Refer to the separate “Scheduled Maintenance Guide” or “Owner’s Manual Supple-
ment” for the maintenance interval applicable to your vehicle.■
If “Maintenance Required Visit Your Dealer” is shown (U.S.A. only)
Indicates that all maintenance is required to correspond to the driven distance on the

Check the engine oil, and change if necessary. After changing the engine oil, the mes-

If “Oil Maintenance Required Visit Your Dealer” is shown
Indicates that the engine oil should be ch anged. (The indicator will not work properly
unless the message has been reset.)
Check and change the engine o il, and oil filter by your Lexus dealer. After changing the
engine oil, the messag e should be reset. ( → P. 475)■
If “Visit Your Dealer” is shown
The system or part shown on the multi-info rmation display is malfunctioning. Have the
vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately. ■
Warning buzzer
In some cases, the buzzer ma y not be heard due to being in a noisy location or audio
sound.

While the engine oil level warning is displayed
Continued engine operation with low engine oil will damage the engine.
