The RCTA buzzer may be difficult to hear over loud noises, such as if the audio system
volume is high. ■
When “Blind Spot Monitor Unavailable” is shown on the multi-information display
Water, snow, mud, etc., may be built up in the vicinity of the sensor area of bumper. (  P. 372)
Removing the water, snow, mud, etc., from the vicinity of the sensor area of bumper should
return it to normal.
Also, the sensor may not function normally wh en used in extremely hot or cold weather. ■
When “Blind Spot Monitor System Malfunction” is shown on the multi-information dis-

There may be a sensor malfunction or voltag e abnormality. Have the vehicle inspected at
your Lexus dealer. ■

Driving The BSM function uses radar sensors to de tect the following vehicles traveling in
adjacent lanes and advises th e driver of the presence of such vehicles via the
indicators on the outside rear view mirrors.
Vehicles that are traveling in areas th at are not visible using the outside rear
view mirrors (the blind spots)
Vehicles that are approaching rapidly from behind in areas that are not visible

Cautions regarding the use of the function
The driver is solely responsible for safe driving. Always drive safely, taking care to
observe your surroundings.
The BSM function is a supplementary function which alerts the driver that a vehicle is in
a blind spot of the outside rear view mirrors or is approaching rapidly from behind into
a blind spot. Do not overly rely on the BSM function. As the function cannot judge if it is
safe to change lanes, over reliance could lead to an accident resulting in death or seri-
ous injury.
As the system may not function correctly under certain conditions, the driver’s own
visual confirmation of safety is necessary. 1

Driving The RCTA function uses radar sensors to detect vehicles approaching from the
right or left at the rear of the vehicle an d alerts the driver of the presence of such
vehicles by flashing the outside rear view mirror indicators and sounding a
buzzer.

Interior features ■
Switching between outside air and recirculated air modes
Press on the control panel. The mode switches among (recirculated air mode), “AUTO” and
(outside air mode) each time is pressed.
When the system is switched to auto matic mode, it operates automatically.■
Defogging the windshield
Defoggers are used to defog the wi ndshield and front side windows.
Press on the control panel. Set the outside/recirculated air mode button to outside air mode if the recirculated
air mode is used. (It may switch automatically.)
To defog the windshield and the side wind ows early, turn the air flow and tempera-
ture up.
To return to the previous mode, press
again when the windshield is
defogged.■
Defogging the rear window and outside rear view mirrors
Defoggers are used to defog the rear window and to remove raindrops, dew
and frost from the outside rear view mirrors.
Press on the control panel. Press again to turn the defogger off.

Micro dust and pollen filter
Pollen is removed from the air and the air flows to the upper part of the body.
Select on the option control screen. In order to prevent the windshield from fo gging up when the outside air is cold, the
dehumidification function may operate.
The pollens are filtered out even if the micro dust and pollen filter is turned off.

Windshield wiper de-icer
This feature is used to prevent ice fr om building up on the windshield and
wiper blades.
Select on the option control screen. When the windshield wiper de-ice r is on, the indicator turns on.
The windshield wiper de-icer will automati cally turn off after a period of time.Other functions

When the outside temperature is low
The dehumidification function may not operate even when is selected. ■
Micro dust and pollen filter ●
In order to prevent the windows from fogging up when the outside air is cold, the fol-
lowing may occur.
• Outside air mode does not swit ch to recirculated air mode.
• The air conditioning system operates automatically.
• The operation cancels after 1 minute. ●
In rainy weather, the windows may fog up. Press . ■
The rear window defogger, outside rear vi ew mirror defogger and windshield wiper de-
icer can be operated when
The engine switch is in IGNITION ON mode. ■
When the windshield wiper de-icer is on
The windshield wiper de-icer will automatically turn off after approximately 15 minutes.■
Ventilation and air conditioning odors ●
To let fresh air in, set the air conditioning system to the outside air mode. ●
During use, various odors from inside and outside the vehicle may enter into and accu-
mulate in the air conditioning system. This may then cause odor to be emitted from the
vents. ●
To reduce potential odors from occurring:
• It is recommended that the air conditioning system be set to outside air mode prior
to turning the vehicle off.
• The start timing of the blower may be dela yed for a short period of time immediately
after the air conditioning system is started in automatic mode.■
While the cool box is on (if equipped)
The front air conditioning sy stem cannot be turned off.■

WARNING ■
To prevent the windshield from fogging up ●
Do not use during cool air operation in extremely humid weather. The differ-
ence between the temperature of the outside air and that of the windshield can cause
the outer surface of the windshield to fog up, blocking your vision.■
To prevent burns ●
Do not touch the rear view mirror surfaces when the outside rear view mirror defog-
gers are on. ●
Do not touch the glass at lower part of the windshield or to the side of the front pillars
when the windshield wiper de-icer is on.
