roads or icy roads, the use of snow tires is
recommended. When installing snow
tires, be sure to replace all four tires.
â—All season tires
All season tires are designed to provide
better traction in snow and to be ade-
quate for driving in most winter condi-
tions as well as for use year-round. All
season tires, however, do not have ade-
quate traction performance compared
with snow tires in heavy or loose snow.
Also, all season tires fall short in accelera-
tion and handling performance com-
pared with summer tires in highway
driving.
â—Snow tires
For driving on snow-covered roads or icy
roads, we recommend using snow tires. If
you need snow tires,
select tires of the
same size, construction and load capacity
as the originally installed tires. Since your
vehicle has radial tires as original equip-
ment, make sure your snow tires also
have radial construction. Do not install
studded tires without first checking local
regulations for possible restrictions.
Snow tires should be installed on all
wheels. ( ï‚®P.266)
â– If the tread on snow tires wears down
below 0.16 in. (4 mm)
The effectiveness of the tires as snow tires is
lost.
Rotate the tires in the order shown.
To equalize tire wear and extend tire life,
Lexus recommends that tire rotation is car-
ried out at the same in terval as tire inspec-
tion.
Do not fail to initialize the tire pressure
warning system after tire rotation.
WARNING
â– When inspecting or replacing tires
Observe the following precautions to
prevent accidents.
Failure to do so may cause damage to
parts of the drive train as well as danger-
ous handling characteristics, which may
lead to an accident resulting in death or
serious injury.
â—Do not mix tires of different makes,
models or tread patterns.
Also, do not mix tires of remarkably
different treadwear.
â—Do not use tire sizes other than those
recommended by Lexus.
â—Do not mix differently constructed
tires (radial, bias-belted or bias-ply
tires).
â—Do not mix summer, all season and
snow tires.
â—Do not use tires that have been used
on another vehicle.
Do not use tires if you do not know
how they were used previously.
â—Do not tow if your vehicle has a com-
pact spare tire installed.
NOTICE
â– Driving on rough roads
Take particular care when driving on
roads with loose surfaces or potholes.
These conditions may cause losses in tire
inflation pressure, reducing the cushion-
ing ability of the tires. In addition, driving
on rough roads may cause damage to
the tires themselves, as well as the vehi-
cle’s wheels and body.
â– If tire inflation pressure of each tire
becomes low while driving
Do not continue driving, or your tires
and/or wheels may be ruined.

WARNING
â– If the engine has to be turned off while
driving
Power assist for the brakes and steering
wheel will be lost, making the brake
pedal harder to depress and the steering
wheel heavier to turn. Decelerate as
much as possible before turning off the
engine.

6Start the engine and turn the air
conditioning system on to check
that the radiator cooling fans oper-
ate and to check for coolant leaks
from the radiator or hoses.
The fans operate when the air conditioning
system is turned on immediately after a
cold start. Confirm that the fans are oper-
ating by checking the fan sound and air
flow. If it is difficult to check these, turn the
air conditioning system on and off repeat-
edly.
(The fans may not oper ate in freezing tem-
peratures.)
7If the fans are not operating:
Stop the engine immediately and
contact your Lexus dealer.
If the fans are operating:
Have the vehicle inspected at the
nearest Lexus dealer.
8
Check if “Engine Coolant Temp
High†is shown on the multi-infor-
mation display.
If the message does not disappear:
Stop the engine and contact your
Lexus dealer.
If the message is not displayed:
Have the vehicle inspected at the
nearest Lexus dealer.
WARNING
â– To prevent an accident or injury when
inspecting under the hood of your
vehicle
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in serious
injury such as burns.
â—If steam is seen coming from under the
hood, do not open the hood until the
steam has subsided. The engine com-
partment may be very hot.
â—Do not touch within the engine com-
partment or get close when the cool-
ing fan is operating. Body parts,
clothes, etc., may get caught and lead
to an accident, resulting in serious
injury. The cooling fan operates auto-
matically at times when the air condi-
tioner is operating and times when the
coolant temperatures are high. Also, it
may operate for several minutes even
after the engine switch is turned off.
â—Keep hands and clothing (especially a
tie, a scarf or a muffler) away from the
fans and belts. Failure to do so may
cause the hands or clothing to be
caught, resulting in serious injury.
â—Do not loosen the coolant reservoir
cap while the engine and radiator are
hot.
High temperature steam or coolant
could spray out.
NOTICE
â– When adding engine coolant
Add coolant slowly after the engine has
cooled down sufficiently. Adding cool
coolant to a hot engine too quickly can
cause damage to the engine.
â– To prevent damage to the cooling sys-
tem
Observe the following precautions:
â—Avoid contaminating the coolant with
foreign matter (such as sand or dust,
etc.).
â—Do not use any coolant additive.
