“PASSENGER AIR BAG” indicator
The “ON” indicator light turns on when the airbag system is on (only when thepower switch is in ON mode).
Airbag manual on-off switch
Insert the mechanical key into the cylin-
der and rotate to the “OFF” position.
The “OFF” indicator light turns on (only when the power switch is in ON mode).
Airbag manual on-off system
This system deactivates the front passenger airbag and front passenger knee
airbag.
Only deactivate the airbags when using a child restraint system on the front
passenger seat.

Do one of the following to deactivate or stop the alarm:
●Unlock the doors or open the trunk using the entry function or wireless
remote control.
●Start the hybrid system. (The alarm will be deactivated or stopped after a few
seconds.)
■System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type alarm system.
■Items to check before locking the vehicle
To prevent unexpected triggering of the alarm and vehicle theft, make sure of the follow-
ing:
●Nobody is in the vehicle.
●The windows and moon roof (if equipped) are closed before the alarm is set.
●No valuables or other personal items are left in the vehicle.

■Triggering of the alarm
The alarm may be triggered in the following situations: (Stopping the alarm deactivates the alarm system.)
■Alarm-operated door lock
In the following cases, depending on the situation, the door may automatically lock to
prevent improper entry into the vehicle:
●When a person remain ing in the vehicle unlocks the door and the alarm is activated.
●While the alarm is activated, a person remaining in the vehicle unlocks the door.
●When recharging or replacing the 12-volt battery
●The doors or trunk are unlocked using the mechanical key.
●A person inside the vehicle opens a door, thetrunk or hood, or unlocks the vehicle using a
inside lock button.
●The 12-volt battery is recharged or replaced when the vehicle is locked. ( P. 584)
NOTICE
■To ensure the system operates correctly
Do not modify or remove the system. If modi fied or removed, the proper operation of the system cannot be guaranteed.

■Canceling and automatic re-enabling of the intrusion sensor and tilt sensor
●The alarm will still be set even when the intrusion sensor and tilt sensor are canceled.
●After the intrusion sensor and tilt sensor are canceled, pressing the power switch or unlocking the doors using the entry function or wireless remote control will re-enable
the intrusion sensor and tilt sensor.
●The intrusion sensor and tilt sensor will automatically be re-enabled when the alarm system is deactivated.
■Intrusion sensor dete ction considerations
The sensor may trigger the alarm in the following situations:
●Places with extreme vibrations or noises, or situations in which the vehicle is subject to repeated impacts or vibrations:
• When parked in a parking garage • When ice adhering to the vehicle is removed• When the vehicle is in an automatic or high-pressure car wash
• When in a hail or lightning storm
●A window or the moon roof is open. In this case, the sensor may detect the follow-ing:
• Wind or the movement of objects such as leaves and insects inside the vehicle• Ultrasonic waves emitted from devices
such as the intrusion sensors of other vehi- cles• The movement of people outside the vehi-
cle
●Unstable items, such as dangling accessories
or clothes hanging on the coat hooks, are in the vehicle.

■When the vehicle is not driven for extended periods
●To prevent theft of the vehicle, do not leave the electronic key within 2 m (6 ft.) of the vehicle.
●The smart entry & start system can be deactivated in advance. ( P. 607)
■To operate the system properly
●Make sure to carry the electronic key when operating the system. Do not get the elec-
tronic key too close to the vehicle when operating the system from the outside of the vehicle.
Depending on the position and holding condit ion of the electronic key, the key may not
be detected correctly and the system may not operate properly. (The alarm may go off accidentally, or the door lock prev ention function may not operate.)
●Do not leave the electronic key inside the trunk.
The key confinement prevention function ma y not operate, depending on the location of the key (the inside edge of the Trunk), co nditions (inside a metal bag, close to metallic objects) and the radio waves in the surrounding area. ( P. 152)

■Auto power off function
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY mode for more than 20 minutes or ON mode (the hybrid system is not operating) for more than an hour with the shift lever in P, the power switch will automatically turn off. However, th is function cannot entirely prevent 12-volt
battery discharge. Do not leave the vehicle with the power switch in ACCESSORY or ON mode for long periods of time when the hybrid system is not operating.

When starting the hybrid system, the flashing time of the “READY” indicator may be long. Leave the vehicle as it is until the “REA DY” indicator is steady on, as steady means
the vehicle is able to move.

■If the hybrid system does not start
●Check that the shift lever is securely set in P. The hybrid system may not start if the shift lever is displaced out of P.
●The immobilizer system may not have been deactivated. ( P. 95)

■Steering lock
After turning the power switch off and openin g and closing the doors, the steering wheel will be locked due to the steering lock func tion. Operating the power switch again auto- matically cancels the steering lock.
■When the steering lock cannot be released
■Steering lock motor overheating prevention
To prevent the steering lock motor from over heating, operation of the motor may be sus- pended if the hybrid system is turned on an d off repeatedly in a short period of time. In
this case, refrain from operating the power switch. After about 10 seconds, the steering lock motor will resume functioning.
“Steering Lock active” will be displayed on the
multi-information display.
Check that the shift lever is in P. Press the power switch while turning the steering wheel left and
right.

■When “Check Entry & Start System” is displayed on the multi-information display
The system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qua lified and equipped professional immediately.
■If the “READY” indicator does not come on
In the event that the “READY” indicator does not come on even after performing the proper procedures for starting the vehicle, contact any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional immediately.
■If the hybrid system is malfunctioning

■Operation of the power switch
●If the switch is not pressed shortly and firmly, the power switch mode may not change or the hybrid system may not start.
●If attempting to restart the hybrid system immediately after turning the power switch off,
the hybrid system may not start in some cases. After turning the power switch off, please wait a few seconds before restarting the hybrid system.
■If the smart entry & start system has been deactivated by a customized setting

WARNING
■When starting the hybrid system
Always start the hybrid system while sittin g in the driver’s seat. Do not depress the accelerator pedal while starting the hybrid system under any circumstances.
Doing so may cause an accident resu lting in death or serious injury.
■Caution while driving
If hybrid system failure occurs while the ve hicle is moving, do not lock or open the
doors until the vehicle reaches a safe and c omplete stop. Activation of the steering lock in this circumstance may lead to an accide nt, resulting in death or serious injury.
■Stopping the hybrid system in an emergency
If you want to stop the hybrid system in an emergency while driving the vehicle, press and hold the power switch for more than 2 seconds, or press it briefly 3 times or morein succession. ( P. 529)
However, do not touch the power switch while driving except in an emergency. Turning the hybrid system off while driving will not cause loss of steering or braking control, however, power assist to the steering will be lost. This will make it more difficult to steer
smoothly, so you should pull over and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.

■When the “-” paddle shift switch is operated with the shift lever in the D position
The shift range is downshifted to a range that enables engine braking force that is suit- able to driving conditions.
■Automatic deactivation of shift range selection in the D position
Shift range selection in the D position will be deactivated in the following situations:
●When the vehicle comes to a stop
●If the accelerator pedal is depressed for more than a certain period of time
●When the shift lever is shifted to a position other than D
■Downshifting restriction warning buzzer
To help ensure safety and driving performa nce, downshifting operation may sometimes
be restricted. In some circumstances, down shifting may not be possible even when the shift lever or paddle shift switch is operated. (A buzzer will sound twice.)
■Snow mode automatic deactivation
Snow mode is automatically deactivated if the power switch is turned off after driving in snow mode.
■When driving with cruise control or dynamic radar cruise control activated
Even when performing the following actions with the intent of enabling engine braking, engine braking will not activate because crui se control or dynamic radar cruise control will not be canceled.
●While driving in the D or S position, downshifting to 5 or 4. ( P. 253, 257)
●When switching the driving mode to sport mode while driving in D position. (P. 301)
■Shift lock system
The shift lock system is a system to prevent accidental operation of the shift lever in start- ing.
The shift lever can be shifted from P only when the power switch is in IGNITION ON
mode and the brake pedal is being depressed.

Use the cruise control to maintain a set speed without depressing the accelera-
tor pedal.

Press the “ON/OFF” button to acti-
vate the cruise control.

■Cruise control can be set when
●The shift lever is in D or range 4 or higher of S has been selected.
●Range 4 or higher of D has been selected by using the paddle shift.
●Vehicle speed is above approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
■Accelerating after setting the vehicle speed
●The vehicle can be accelerated by operating accelerator pedal. After accelerating, the set speed resumes.
●Even without canceling the cruise control, the set speed can be increased by first accel-erating the vehicle to the desired speed and then pushing the lever down to set the newspeed.
■Automatic cruise control cancelation
Cruise control is automatically canceled in any of the following situations.
●Actual vehicle speed falls more than approximately 16 km/h (10 mph) below the set
speed.
●Actual vehicle speed is below approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
●VSC is activated.
●TRC is activated for a period of time.
●When the VSC or TRC system is turned off by pressing the VSC OFF switch.
■If the warning message for the cruise contro l is shown on the multi-information display
Press the “ON/OFF” button once to deactivate the system, and then press the button again to reactivate the system.If the cruise control speed cannot be set or if the cruise control cancels immediately after
being activated, there may be a malfunction in the cruise control system. Have the vehi- cle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified andequipped professional.
