Maintenance and care

When replacing wheels, care should be taken to ensure that they are equivalent
to those removed in load capacity, diameter, rim width and inset*.
Replacement wheels are available at any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional.
*: Conventionally referred to as “offset”.
Lexus does not recommend using the following:
●Wheels of different sizes or types
●Used wheels
●Bent wheels that have been straightened
●Use only Lexus wheel nuts and wrenches designed for use with your alumi-
num wheels.
●When rotating, repairing or changing your tires, check that the wheel nuts are
still tight after driving 1600 km (1000 miles).
●Be careful not to damage the aluminum wheels when using tire chains.
●Use only Lexus genuine balance weights or equivalent and a plastic or rubber
hammer when balancing your wheels.
■When replacing wheels
The wheels of your vehicle are equipped with tire pressure warning valves and transmit- ters that allow the tire pressure warning sy stem to provide advance warning in the event
of a loss in tire inflation pressure. Whenever wheels are replaced, tire pressure warning valves and transmitters must be installed. (P. 615)
Wheels
If a wheel is bent, cracked or heavily corroded, it should be replaced. Other-
wise, the tire may separate from the wheel or cause a loss of handling control.

WARNING
■When replacing wheels
●Do not use wheels that are a different size from those recommended in the Owner’s Manual, as this may result in a loss of handling control.
●Never use an inner tube in a leaking wheel which is designed for a tubeless tire. Doingso may result in an accident, causing death or serious injury.
■Use of defective wheels prohibited
Do not use cracked or deformed wheels. Doing so could cause the tire to leak air during driving, possibly causing an accident.
NOTICE
■Replacing tire pressure warning valves and transmitters
●Because tire repair or replacement may affe ct the tire pressure warning valves and
transmitters, make sure to have tires se rviced by any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional or other qualified ser-vice shop. In addition, make sure to purcha se your tire pressure warning valves and
transmitters at any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
●Ensure that only genuine Lexus wheels are used on your vehicle.
Tire pressure warning valves and transmitte rs may not work properly with non-genu- ine wheels.
■Selectable Color Trim (if equipped)
●If rattles, noise, or other problems occur while
Selectable Color Trim are installed, contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, oranother duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.
●Do not remove or install Selectable Color Trim yourself, as it may be damaged. Have the
Selectable Color Trim removed and installed by any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, oranother duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.

■When a tire is replaced with a spare tire
Vehicles with a compact spare tire: The comp act spare tire is not equipped with a tire pressure warning valve and transmitter. If a ti re goes flat, the tire pressure warning light
will not turn off even though th e flat tire has been replaced with the spare tire. Replace the spare tire with the repaired tire and adjust the tire inflation pressure. The tire pressurewarning light will go off after a few minutes.
Vehicles with a full-size spare tire: The spare tire is also equipped with a tire pressure warning valve and transmitter. The tire pressure warning light will turn on if the tire infla- tion pressure of the spare tire is low. If a ti re goes flat, the tire pressure warning light will
not turn off even though the flat tire has been replaced with the spare tire. Replace the spare tire with the repaired tire and adjust the tire inflation pressure. The tire pressure warning light will go off after a few minutes.
■Conditions that the tire pressure warning system may not function properly

■Warning buzzer
In some cases, the buzzer may not be heard due to being in a noisy location or audio sound.
WARNING
■If both the ABS and the brake system warning lights remain on
Stop your vehicle in a safe place immediately and contact any authorized Lexus dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional. The vehicle will become extremely unstable during braking, and the ABS system may fail, which couldcause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
■When the electric power steering system warning light comes on
When the light comes on yellow, the assist to the power steering is restricted. When the light comes on red, the assist to the power steering is lost and handling operations of
the steering wheel become extremely heavy. When steering wheel operations are heavier than usual, grip the steering wheel firmly and operate it using more force than usual.

Secure the deck board using the hook. ( P. 565)
Remove the spare tire cover.
Loosen the center fastener that
secures the spare tire.
When taking out the spare tire, wear working gloves, firmly hold the spokes,
and take out the tire with the proper posture.
With Selectable Color Trim: Hold the
spare tire by the metal portion of the wheel (not the Selectable Color Trim).( P. 687)

■When storing the spare tire
Be careful not to catch fingers or other body parts between the spare tire and the body
of the vehicle.

Raise the vehicle until the tire is
slightly raised off the ground.
Remove all the wheel nuts and the
tire.
When resting the tire on the ground, place the tire so that the wheel designfaces up to avoid scratching the wheel
surface.
Vehicles with a full-size spare tire:
Remove the wheel ornament by
pushing from the reverse side.

Remove any dirt or foreign matter
from the wheel contact surface.
If foreign matter is on the wheel contact
surface, the wheel nuts may loosen while the vehicle is in motion, causingthe tire to come off.
Install the spare tire and loosely tighte n each wheel nut by hand by approxi-
mately the same amount.
Lower the vehicle.

Firmly tighten each wheel nut two or
three times in the order shown in the
illustration.
Tightening torque:
103 N·m (10.5 kgf·m, 76 ft·lbf)
Vehicles with a full-size spare tire:
Reinstall the wheel ornament.
Stow the flat tire, tire jack and all tools.
■The compact spare tire (vehicles with a compact spare tire)
●The compact spare tire is identified by the label “TEMPORARY USE ONLY” on the
tire sidewall. Use the compact spare tire temporarily, and only in an emergency.
●Make sure to check the tire inflation pressure of the compact spare tire. (P. 737)
■When using the compact spare tire (vehicles with a compact spare tire)
As the compact spare tire is not equipped with a tire pressure warning valve and trans- mitter, low inflation pressure of the spare tire will not be indicated by the tire pressure
warning system. Also, if you replace the compact spare tire after the tire pressure warn- ing light comes on, th e light remains on.
■When the compact spare tire is equipped (vehicles with a compact spare tire)
When driving with the compact spare tire installed, the vehicle height will be different than when driving with standard tires.
■If you have a flat front tire on a road covered with snow or ice (vehicles with a compact
spare tire)
Install the compact spare tire on one of the rear wheels of the vehicle. Perform the follow- ing steps and fit tire chains to the front tires:
Replace a rear tire with the compact spare tire.
Replace the flat front tire with the tire removed from the rear of the vehicle.
Fit tire chains to the front tires.

■Emergency tire puncture repair kit
●The sealant has a limited life span. The expiry date is marked on the bottle. The sealant should be replaced before the expiry da te. Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified an d equipped professional for replacement.
●The sealant stored in the emergency tire puncture repair kit can be used only once to temporarily repair a single tire. If the seal ant has been used and needs to be purchased, contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional. The compressor is reusable.
●The compressor can be used repeatedly.
●The sealant can be used when the outside temperature is from -40 C (-40F) to 60C
(140 F).
●The kit is exclusively designed for size and type of tires originally installed on your vehi- cle. Do not use it for tires that a different size than the original ones, or for any other
purposes.
●If the sealant gets on your clothes, it may stain.
●If the sealant adheres to a wheel or the surface of the vehicle body, the stain may not be
removable if it is not cleaned at once. Immediately wipe away the sealant with a wet cloth.
●During operation of the kit, a loud operatio n noise is produced. This does not indicate a
malfunction.
●Do not use to check or to adjust the tire pressure.
■If the tire is inflated to mo re than the recommended level
Disconnect the hose from the valve.
Disconnect the hose from the valve, remove the air release cap from the hose and then reconnect the hose.
Turn the compressor switch on and wait for several seconds, then turn it off. Check that
the air pressure indicator sh ows the recommended level. (P. 737) If the air pressure is lower than the reco mmended level, turn the compressor switch on again and repeat the inflation procedure un til the recommended pressure is reached.
■After a tire repaired with the emergency tire puncture repair kit
●The tire pressure warning valve and transmitter should be replaced.
●Even if the tire inflation pressure is at the recommended level, the tire pressure warning
light may come on/flash.
Install the air release cap to the end of the
hose and push the protrusion on the air release cap into the valve to let some air out.
