WHAT IS THE CABIN AIR FILTER
Your vehicle is equipped with a cabin airfilter, which gives you and your passengersthe following benefits:
•It improves your driving comfort byreducing particle and odor concentration.
•It improves the interior compartmentcleanliness.
•It protects the climate controlcomponents from particle deposits.
REPLACING THE CABIN AIR FILTER
Replace the filter at regular intervals. SeeScheduled Maintenance (page 563).
Note:Make sure you have a cabin air filterinstalled at all times. This prevents foreignobjects from entering the system. Runningthe system without a filter in place couldresult in degradation or damage to thesystem.
Note:Using an aftermarket cabin air filtercould reduce cabin air filtration and climatecontrol performance.
AUTO AIR REFRESH (IF EQUIPPED)
WHAT IS AUTO AIR REFRESH
Auto air refresh helps improve or maintainthe quality of air within your vehicle cabin.
HOW DOES AUTO AIR REFRESHWORK
Auto air refresh uses an air quality sensor toautomatically adjust the climate controlsystem to change from outside air torecirculated air to help reduce the entry ofoutside odors into the cabin. It uses aparticulate matter sensor in the cabin toestimate and provide information aboutparticulate matter pollution in the cabin. Italso allows you to refresh the cabin air withoutside air on-demand or automatically.
CHECKING THE INTERIOR AIRQUALITY
Press the button on thetouchscreen.
1.Press Auto Air Refresh.

Particulate Matter PollutionInformation
Press Help for more information aboutparticulate matter pollution.
The numbers provided by the cabin's PM2.5sensor are estimates of the concentration ofparticles in the cabin air. The measurementunit is µg/m3, representing mass (microgramsof particulates) per unit of air volume (cubicmeter of air).
The colors around the PM2.5 numbersprovide visual cues about the concentrationlevels.
Note:PM2.5 is only one pollution typecontributing to an Air Quality Index and byitself does not represent the Air QualityIndex.
AUTO AIR REFRESH INDICATORS
The indicator area is on the touchscreenfeature bar and displays one of the following:
Indicates blower motor is on forfiltering and PM2.5 is low.
Indicates the blower motor is onfor filtering.
Indicates the blower motor is off.
Indicates the status is not available.
MANUALLY REFRESHING THEINTERIOR AIR
Press the button on thetouchscreen.
1.Press Auto Air Refresh.
2.Press Cabin Refresh.
Note:Climate control settings could changefor about 90 seconds to help flow outsideair into the cabin. You can change theblower motor speed to the settings youprefer.
Note:The climate control must be on tomanually refresh the interior air.
AUTOMATICALLY REFRESHING THEINTERIOR AIR
If the cabin air recirculates continuously forlonger than 35 minutes, climate controlsettings could change automatically for about90 seconds to help flow outside air into thecabin.
Refreshing the Interior Air Upon CabinStart
If the cabin is above 75°F (24°C) and theengine has been off for over 30 minutes, when you start the engine the climate controlsystem settings could change forapproximately 75 seconds to help flowoutside air into the cabin.
Note:Refreshing may also occur if theclimate control and blower motor werepreviously on.

AUTO AIR REFRESH HINTS
To further improve the air quality in the cabin:
•Adjust the windows and other cabinopenings such as the moonroof.
•Switch recirculated air on or off.
•Manually refresh the interior air.
•Adjust the blower motor speed.
•Replace the cabin air filter at regularintervals.

WHAT IS THE CATALYTIC
CONVERTER
The catalytic converter is part of yourvehicle's emissions system and filters harmfulpollutants from the exhaust gas.
CATALYTIC CONVERTER
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Do not park, idle or driveyour vehicle on dry grass or other dryground cover. The emission system heatsup the engine compartment and exhaustsystem, creating the risk of fire.
WARNING: The normal operatingtemperature of the exhaust system is veryhigh. Never work around or attempt torepair any part of the exhaust system untilit has cooled. Use special care whenworking around the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter heats up to a veryhigh temperature after only a short periodof engine operation and stays hot after theengine is switched off.
WARNING: Exhaust leaks may resultin entry of harmful and potentially lethalfumes into the passenger compartment. Ifyou smell exhaust fumes inside yourvehicle, have your vehicle inspectedimmediately. Do not drive if you smellexhaust fumes.
To avoid damaging the catalytic converter:
•Do not crank the engine for more than10 seconds at a time.
•Do not run the engine with a spark pluglead disconnected.
•Do not push-start or tow-start yourvehicle. Use booster cables. See JumpStarting the Vehicle (page 402).
•Use the correct fuel. See Fuel andRefueling (page 223).
•Do not switch the ignition off when yourvehicle is moving.
•Avoid running out of fuel.
•Have the items listed in scheduledmaintenance information performedaccording to the specified schedule.
Note:Do not make any unauthorizedchanges to your vehicle or engine. By law, vehicle owners and anyone whomanufactures, repairs, or services a fleet ofvehicles are not permitted to intentionallyremove an emission control device orprevent it from working.

Note: Avoid turning on steep slopes or hills.A danger lies in losing traction, slippingsideways and possible vehicle rollover.Whenever driving on a hill, determinebeforehand the route you can use. Do notdrive over the crest of a hill without seeingwhat conditions are on the other side. Donot drive in reverse over a hill without theaid of an observer.
Apply just enough power to the wheels toclimb the hill. Too much power causes thetires to slip, spin or lose traction, and youcould lose control of your vehicle. Whendescending a steep hill, do not descend thehill in neutral. Avoid sudden hard braking tokeep the front wheels rolling and to maintainyour vehicle's steering.
Note:Your vehicle has anti-lock brakes, apply the brakes steadily. Do not pump thebrakes.
DRIVING IN SAND
When driving over sand, try to keep all fourwheels on the most solid area of the trail. Steadily drive through the terrain. Apply theaccelerator slowly and avoid excessivewheel slip. Do not drive your vehicle in deepsand for an extended period of time. Thiscould overheat the system. A messageappears in the instrument cluster display.
Note:If your vehicle gets stuck driving onhilly or sloping terrain, it could be rocked outby shifting between forward and reversegears, stopping between shifts in a steadypattern. Press lightly on the accelerator ineach gear.
Note:Do not rock your vehicle if the engineis not at normal operating temperature, asdamage to the transmission could occur.
Note:Do not rock your vehicle for more thana minute, as damage to the transmissionand tires could occur or the engine couldoverheat
DRIVING THROUGH SHALLOW
WATER
WARNING: Do not attempt to crossa deep or flowing body of water. Failure tofollow this instruction could result in theloss of control of your vehicle, personalinjury or death.
Note:Driving through standing water cancause vehicle damage.
Note:Engine damage can occur if waterenters the air filter.
Before driving through standing water, checkthe depth. Never drive through water that ishigher than the bottom of the front rockerarea of your vehicle.
