Your vehicle has electronic control units thathave data recording functionality and theability to permanently or temporarily storedata. This data could include information onthe condition and status of your vehicle,vehicle maintenance requirements, eventsand malfunctions. The types of data that canbe recorded are described in this section.Some of the data recorded is stored in eventlogs or error logs.
Note:Error logs are reset following a serviceor repair.
Note:We may provide information inresponse to requests from law enforcement,other government authorities and thirdparties acting with lawful authority or througha legal process. Such information could beused by them in legal proceedings.
Data recorded includes, for example:
•Operating states of system components,for example fuel level, tire pressure andbattery charge level.
•Vehicle and component status, forexample wheel speed, deceleration,lateral acceleration and seatbelt status.
•Events or errors in essential systems, forexample headlamps and brakes.
•System responses to driving situations,for example airbag deployment andstability control.
•Environmental conditions, for exampletemperature.
Some of this data, when used in combinationwith other information, for example anaccident report, damage to a vehicle oreyewitness statements, could be associatedwith a specific person.

EVENT DATA
This vehicle is equipped with an event datarecorder. The main purpose of an event datarecorder is to record, in certain crash or nearcrash-like situations, such as an airbagdeployment or hitting a road obstacle; thisdata will assist in understanding how avehicle’s systems performed. The event datarecorder is designed to record data relatedto vehicle dynamics and safety systems fora short period of time, typically 30 secondsor less.
The event data recorder in this vehicle isdesigned to record such data as:
•How various systems in your vehiclewere operating.
•Whether or not the driver and passengerseatbelts were buckled/fastened.
•How far (if at all) the driver wasdepressing the accelerator and/or thebrake pedal.
•How fast the vehicle was traveling.
•Where the driver was positioning thesteering wheel.
This data can help provide a betterunderstanding of the circumstances in whichcrashes and injuries occur.
Note:Event data recorder data is recordedby your vehicle only if a non-trivial crashsituation occurs; no data is recorded by theevent data recorder under normal drivingconditions and no personal data orinformation (for example name, gender, age,and crash location) is recorded. However,parties, such as law enforcement, couldcombine the event data recorder data withthe type of personally identifying dataroutinely acquired during a crashinvestigation.
To read data recorded by an event datarecorder, special equipment is required, andaccess to the vehicle or the event datarecorder is needed. In addition to the vehiclemanufacturer, other parties, such as lawenforcement, that have such specialequipment, can read the information if theyhave access to the vehicle or the event datarecorder.
SETTINGS DATA
Your vehicle has electronic control units thathave the ability to store data based on yourpersonalized settings. The data is storedlocally in the vehicle or on devices that youconnect to it, for example, a USB drive ordigital music player. You can delete some ofthis data and also choose whether to shareit through the services to which yousubscribe.
Comfort and Convenience Data
Data recorded includes, for example:
•Seat and steering wheel position.
•Climate control settings.
•Radio presets.
Entertainment Data
Data recorded includes, for example:
•Music, videos or album art.
•Contacts and corresponding addressbook entries.
•Navigation destinations.

WARNING: Properly secure childrestraints or booster seats when they arenot in use. They could become projectilesin a sudden stop or crash. Failure to followthis instruction could result in personalinjury or death.
WARNING: Do not put the shouldersection of the seatbelt or allow the child toput the shoulder section of the seatbeltunder their arm or behind their back.Failure to follow this instruction couldreduce the effectiveness of the seatbeltand increase the risk of injury or death ina crash.

When installing a child restraint withseatbelts:
•Place the vehicle seat in the uprightposition before you install the childrestraint.
•Use the correct seatbelt buckle for thatseating position.
•Insert the belt tongue into the buckle.Make sure the tongue is securelyfastened in the buckle.
•Keep the buckle release button pointingup and away from the child restraint, withthe tongue between the child restraintand the release button, to preventaccidental unbuckling.
•Put the seatbelt in the automatic lockingmode.

CHILD RESTRAINTS RECOMMENDATION
Recommended Restraint TypeChild Size, Height, Weight, or Age
Use a child restraint (sometimes called an infant carrier,convertible seat, or toddler seat).Children weighing 40 lb (18 kg) or less (generally age four or younger).
Use a belt-positioning booster seat.
Children who have outgrown or no longer properly fit in a child restraint (generallychildren who are less than 57 in (1.45 m) tall, are greater than age four and lessthan age 12, and between 40 lb (18 kg) and 80 lb (36 kg) and upward to 100 lb(45 kg) if recommended by your child restraint manufacturer).
Use a vehicle seatbelt having the lap belt snug and lowacross the hips, shoulder belt centered across theshoulder and chest, and seat backrest upright.
Children who have outgrown or no longer properly fit in a belt-positioning boosterseat (generally children who are at least 57 in (1.45 m) tall or greater than 80 lb(36 kg) or 100 lb (45 kg) if recommended by child restraint manufacturer).
You are required by law to properly use childrestraints for infants and toddlers in theUnited States, Canada and Mexico.
Many states and provinces require that smallchildren use approved booster seats untilthey reach age eight, a height of 57 in(1.45 m) tall, or 80 lb (36 kg). Check your localand state or provincial laws for specificrequirements about the safety of children inyour vehicle.
When possible, properly restrain children 12years of age and under in a rear seatingposition of your vehicle. Accident statisticssuggest that children are safer when properlyrestrained in the rear seating positions thanin a front seating position.
When installing a rear facing child restraint,adjust the vehicle seats to avoid interferencebetween the child restraint and the vehicleseat in front of the child restraint.

INSTALLING CHILD RESTRAINTS
USING SEATBELTS
WARNING: Depending on where yousecure a child restraint, and depending onthe child restraint design, you may blockaccess to certain seatbelt buckleassemblies and LATCH lower anchors,rendering those features potentiallyunusable. To avoid risk of injury, make sureoccupants only use seating positionswhere they are able to be properlyrestrained.
Note:Although the child restraint illustratedis a forward-facing child restraint, the stepsare the same for installing a rear-facing childrestraint.
Perform the following steps when installingthe child restraint with seatbelts:
1.Position the child restraint in a seat witha seatbelt.
2.After positioning the child restraint in theproper seating position, pull down on theshoulder belt and then grasp theshoulder belt and lap belt togetherbehind the belt tongue.
3.While holding the shoulder and lap beltportions together, route the tonguethrough the child restraint according tothe child restraint manufacturer'sinstructions. Make sure that you did nottwist the belt webbing.
