WINDSHIELD WASHERS
Pull the lever toward you tooperate the windshield washers.
When you release the lever, the wipersoperate for a short time. When activated, acourtesy wipe occurs a short time after thewipers stop to clear any remaining washerfluid.
Note:You can switch courtesy wipe on oroff in the information display SeeInformation Messages (page 113).
Note: Do not operate the washers when thewasher reservoir is empty. This could causethe washer pump to overheat.
Front Camera Washer (If Equipped)
Operating the windshield washer also turnson the front camera washer.

Heads Up Display (If Equipped)
A red beam of lights will illuminateon the windshield in certaininstances when using adaptivecruise control or the collision warning system.It will also illuminate momentarily when youstart your vehicle to make sure the displayworks.
Headlamp High Beam Indicator
It illuminates when you switch theheadlamp high beam on.
Hood Ajar
Displays when the ignition is onand the hood is not completelyclosed.
Lane Keeping System Lamp (If Equipped)
It illuminates when the systemactivates.
Low Fuel Level Warning Lamp
If it illuminates when you aredriving, refuel as soon as possible.
Low Tire Pressure Warning Lamp
It illuminates when your tirepressure is low. If the lamp remainson with the engine running orwhen driving, check your tire pressure assoon as possible.
It also illuminates momentarily when youswitch the ignition on to confirm the lamp isfunctional. If it does not illuminate when youswitch the ignition on, or begins to flash atany time, have the system checked by yourauthorized dealer.
Low Washer Fluid Level Warning Lamp
It illuminates when the washer fluidis low.
Oil Pressure Warning Lamp
It illuminates when you switch theignition on.
If it illuminates when the engine isrunning this indicates a malfunction. Stopyour vehicle as soon as it is safe to do soand switch the engine off. Check the engineoil level. If the oil level is sufficient, thisindicates a system malfunction. Have yourvehicle checked as soon as possible.

Parking Lamps
It will illuminate when you switchthe parking lamps on.
Powertrain Fault
Illuminates when the system hasdetected a powertrain or anall-wheel drive fault. Contact anauthorized dealer as soon as possible.

ENGINE OIL CHECK
WARNING: Do not work on a hotengine.
To check the engine oil level consistentlyand accurately, do the following:
1.Make sure the parking brake is on. Makesure the transmission is in park (P) orneutral (N).
2. Run the engine until it reaches normaloperating temperature.
3. Make sure that your vehicle is on levelground.
4.Switch the engine off and wait 15 minutesfor the oil to drain into the oil pan. Checking the engine oil level too soonafter you switch the engine off may resultin an inaccurate reading.
5. Open the hood. See Opening andClosing the Hood (page 287).
6. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with aclean, lint-free cloth. See Under HoodOverview (page 288).
7.Replace the dipstick and remove it againto check the oil level. See Engine OilDipstick (page 290).
8. Make sure that the oil level is betweenthe maximum and minimum marks. If theoil level is at the minimum mark, add oilimmediately. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 350).

ENGINE COOLANT CHECK
Checking the Engine Coolant
WARNING: Do not add engine coolantwhen the engine is hot. Steam and scaldingliquids released from a hot cooling systemcan burn you badly. Also, you can be burnedif you spill coolant on hot engine parts.
WARNING: Do not put engine coolantin the windshield washer fluid container. Ifsprayed on the windshield, engine coolantcould make it difficult to see through thewindshield.
WARNING: To reduce the risk ofpersonal injury, make sure the engine is coolbefore unscrewing the coolant pressure reliefcap. The cooling system is under pressure;steam and hot liquid can come out forcefullywhen the cap is loosened slightly.
WARNING: Do not add coolant furtherthan the MAX mark.
Note:Automotive fluids are notinterchangeable. Do not use engine coolantor windshield washer fluid outside of itsspecified function and vehicle location.
Note:Do not use stop leak pellets, coolingsystem sealants, or additives as they cancause damage to the engine cooling orheating systems. This damage would not becovered under your vehicle’s warranty.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
FLUID CHECK
The automatic transmission does not havea transmission fluid dipstick.
The automatic transmission does notconsume fluid. However, the fluid levelshould be checked if the transmission is notworking properly, for example if thetransmission slips or shifts slowly or if younotice some sign of fluid leakage.
Note:Transmission fluid should be checkedby an authorized dealer. If required, fluidshould be added by an authorized dealer.
Do not use supplemental transmission fluidadditives, treatments or cleaning agents. Theuse of these materials may affecttransmission operation and result in damageto internal transmission components.
BRAKE FLUID CHECK
WARNING: Do not use any fluid otherthan the recommended brake fluid as thiswill reduce brake efficiency. Use of incorrectfluid could result in the loss of vehiclecontrol, serious personal injury or death.
WARNING: Only use brake fluid froma sealed container. Contamination with dirt,water, petroleum products or other materialsmay result in brake system damage or failure.Failure to adhere to this warning could resultin the loss of vehicle control, seriouspersonal injury or death.
WARNING: Do not allow the fluid totouch your skin or eyes. If this happens, rinsethe affected areas immediately with plentyof water and contact your physician.
WARNING: A fluid level between theMAX and MIN lines is within the normaloperating range and there is no need to addfluid. A fluid level not in the normal operatingrange could compromise the performanceof the system. Have your vehicle checkedimmediately.
To avoid fluid contamination, the reservoircap must remain in place and fully tight,unless you are adding fluid.
Only use fluid that meets Ford specifications.See Capacities and Specifications (page344).
WASHER FLUID CHECK
WARNING: If you operate your vehiclein temperatures below 41.0°F (5°C), usewasher fluid with antifreeze protection.Failure to use washer fluid with antifreezeprotection in cold weather could result inimpaired windshield vision and increase therisk of injury or accident.

Note:The front and rear washer systemsare supplied from the same reservoir.
Add fluid to fill the reservoir if the level is low.Only use a washer fluid that meets ourspecifications. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 344).
State or local regulations on volatile organiccompounds may restrict the use of methanol,a common windshield washer antifreezeadditive. Washer fluids containingnon-methanol antifreeze agents should beused only if they provide cold weatherprotection without damaging the vehicle’spaint finish, wiper blades or washer system.
FUEL FILTER
Your vehicle is equipped with a lifetime fuelfilter that is integrated with the fuel tank.Regular maintenance or replacement is notneeded.
CHANGING THE 12V BATTERY
WARNING: Batteries normally produceexplosive gases which can cause personalinjury. Therefore, do not allow flames, sparksor lighted substances to come near thebattery. When working near the battery,always shield your face and protect youreyes. Always provide correct ventilation.
WARNING: When lifting a plastic-casedbattery, excessive pressure on the end wallscould cause acid to flow through the ventcaps, resulting in personal injury and damageto the vehicle or battery. Lift the battery witha battery carrier or with your hands onopposite corners.
WARNING: Keep batteries out of reachof children. Batteries contain sulfuric acid.Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing.Shield your eyes when working near thebattery to protect against possible splashingof acid solution. In case of acid contact withskin or eyes, flush immediately with waterfor a minimum of 15 minutes and get promptmedical attention. If acid is swallowed, call aphysician immediately.
WARNING: Battery posts, terminalsand related accessories contain lead andlead compounds. Wash hands after handling.
WARNING: For vehicles withAuto-Start-Stop the battery requirement isdifferent. You must replace the battery withone of exactly the same specification.
Your vehicle is fitted with a Motorcraftmaintenance-free battery which normallydoes not require additional water.

Maintenance

Make sure that you dispose of old batteriesin an environmentally friendly way. Seekadvice from your local authority aboutrecycling old batteries.
If storing your vehicle for more than 30 dayswithout recharging the battery, werecommend that you disconnect the batterycables to maintain battery charge for quickstarting.
CHECKING THE WIPER BLADES
Run the tip of your fingers over the edge ofthe blade to check for roughness.
Clean the wiper blades with washer fluid orwater applied with a soft sponge or cloth.
CHANGING THE WIPER BLADES
You can improve poor wiper quality bycleaning the wiper blades and thewindshield.
Note:Do not move the wiper arm when theignition is on as it may cause damage to thewiper motor.
Replace the wiper blades at least annuallyfor optimum performance.
Front Wiper Blades
1. Lift the wiper arm and then press thewiper blade locking buttons together.
Note:Do not hold the wiper blade whenlifting the wiper arm.
Note:Make sure that the wiper arm doesnot spring back against the glass when thewiper blade is not attached.
2. Slightly rotate the wiper blade.
3. Remove the wiper blade.
4. Install in the reverse order.
Note:Make sure that the wiper blade locksinto place.
