All safety restraints in the vehicle arecombination lap and shoulder belts. Thedriver seatbelt has the vehicle sensitivelocking mode. The front outboard passengerand rear seatbelts have both the vehiclesensitive locking mode and the automaticlocking mode.
Vehicle Sensitive Mode
This is the normal retractor mode, whichallows free shoulder belt length adjustmentto your movements and locking in responseto vehicle movement. For example, if thedriver brakes suddenly or turns a cornersharply, or the vehicle receives an impact ofabout 5 mph (8 km/h) or more, thecombination seatbelts lock to help reduceforward movement of the driver andpassengers.
In addition, the retractor is designed to lockif you pull the webbing out too quickly. If theseatbelt retractor locks, slowly lower theheight adjuster to allow the seatbelt toretract. If the retractor does not unlock, pullthe seatbelt out slowly then feed a small
length of webbing back toward the stowedposition. For rear seatbelts, recline the rearseat backrest or push the seat backrestcushion away from the seatbelt. Feed a smalllength of webbing back toward the stowedposition.
Automatic Locking Mode
In this mode, the shoulder belt automaticallypre-locks. The belt retracts to remove anyslack in the shoulder belt. The automaticlocking mode is not available on the driverseatbelt.
When to Use the Automatic Locking Mode
Use this mode any time a child safety seat,except a booster, is installed in passengerfront or rear seating positions. Properlyrestrain children 12 years old and under in arear seating position whenever possible.See Child Safety (page 18).
How to Use the Automatic Locking Mode
Non-inflatable seatbelts
1.Buckle the combination lap and shoulderbelt.
2. Grasp the shoulder portion and pulldownward until you pull the entire beltout. As the belt retracts, you will hear aclicking sound. This indicates the seatbeltis now in the automatic locking mode.
Rear outboard inflatable seatbelts (secondrow only–if equipped)

1.Buckle the combination lap and shoulderbelt.
2.Grasp the lap portion of the belt and pullupward until you pull the entire belt out.
3. Allow the belt to retract. As the beltretracts, you will hear a clicking sound.This indicates the seatbelt is now in theautomatic locking mode.
How to Disengage the Automatic LockingMode
Unbuckle the combination lap and shoulderbelt and allow it to retract completely todisengage the automatic locking mode andactivate the vehicle sensitive (emergency)locking mode.
Rear Inflatable Seatbelt (If Equipped)
WARNING: Do not attempt to service,repair, or modify the supplementaryrestraint system or associated components.Failure to follow this instruction could resultin personal injury or death.
Note:The rear inflatable seatbelts arecompatible with most infant and child safetycar seats and belt positioning booster seatswhen properly installed. This is because theyare designed to fill with a cooled gas at alower pressure and at a slower rate thantraditional airbags. After inflation, theshoulder portion of the seatbelt remains coolto the touch.
The rear inflatable seatbelts are in theshoulder portion of the seatbelts of thesecond-row outboard seating positions.
The rear inflatable seatbelt consists of thefollowing:
•An inflatable bag in the shoulder seatbeltwebbing.
•Lap seatbelt webbing with automaticlocking mode.
•Crash sensors and monitoring systemwith readiness indicator. See CrashSensors and Airbag Indicator (page 57).
How does the rear inflatable seatbeltsystem work?
WARNING: If a supplementaryrestraint system component has deployed,it will not function again. Have the systemand associated components inspected assoon as possible. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injuryor death.
The rear inflatable seatbelts functions likestandard restraints in everyday usage.

9. Fully close the fuel filler door.
Note:The message may not immediatelyreset. If the message continues to appearand a warning lamp illuminates, have yourvehicle checked as soon as possible.
FUEL CONSUMPTION
Advertised Capacity
The advertised capacity is the maximumamount of fuel that you can add to the fueltank after running out of fuel. Included in theadvertised capacity is an empty reserve. Theempty reserve is an unspecified amount offuel that remains in the fuel tank when thefuel gauge indicates empty.
Note:The amount of fuel in the emptyreserve varies and should not be relied uponto increase driving range.
Fuel Economy
Your vehicle calculates fuel economy figuresthrough the trip computer average fuelfunction. See General Information (page105).
The first 1,000 mi (1,500 km) of driving is thebreak-in period of the engine. A moreaccurate measurement is obtained after2,000 mi (3,000 km).
Impacting Fuel Economy
•Incorrect tire inflation pressures.
•Fully loading your vehicle.
•Carrying unnecessary weight.
•Adding certain accessories to yourvehicle such as bug deflectors, rollbarsor light bars, running boards and skiracks.
•Using fuel blended with alcohol. SeeFuel Quality (page 165).
•Fuel economy may decrease with lowertemperatures.
•Fuel economy may decrease whendriving short distances.
•You may get better fuel economy whendriving on flat terrain than when drivingon hilly terrain.

The system detects an available parallelparking space and automatically steers yourvehicle (hands-free) while you control theaccelerator, transmission and brakes. Thesystem visually and audibly guides you topark your vehicle.
If you are uncomfortable with the proximityto any vehicle or object, you may choose tooverride the system by grabbing the steeringwheel or pushing the active park assistbutton.
The system may not operate correctly in anyof the following conditions:
•You use a spare tire or a tire significantlyworn more than the other tires.
•One or more tires are improperly inflated.
•You try to park on a tight curve.
•Something passes between the frontbumper and the parking space. Forexample, a pedestrian or cyclist.
•The edge of the neighboring parkingvehicle is high off the ground. Forexample, a bus, tow truck or flatbedtruck.
•The weather conditions are poor. Forexample, during heavy rain, snow or fog.
Note: Keep the sensors, located on thefascia, free from now, ice and largeaccumulations of dirt. Covered sensors canaffect the systems accuracy. Do not cleanthe sensors with sharp objects.
Note:The sensors may not detect objectswith surfaces that absorb ultrasonic wavesor cause ultrasonic interference. Forexample, motorcycle exhaust, truck airbrakes or horns.
Note:Following a change in tire size, thesystem must recalibrate and operation maybe impaired for a short time.
Do not use the system if:
•You have attached a bike rack, trailer orother object near the sensors on the frontor rear of your vehicle.
•You have attached an overhangingobject to the roof. For example, asurfboard.
•A foreign object damages or obstructsthe sensors.
•The correct tire size is not in use. Forexample, when using a mini-spare tire.
Using Active Park Assist
Press the button to turn the systemon or off.

The system does not position your vehicle where I want in the space
Your vehicle is rolling in the opposite direction of the transmission. For example, rolling forward when the transmission is in reverse (R).
An irregular curb along the parking space prevents the system from aligning your vehicle properly.
Vehicles or objects bordering the space may not be positioned correctly.
Your vehicle was pulled too far past the parking space. The system performs best when you drive the same distance past the parking space.
The tires may not be installed or maintained correctly. For example, not inflated correctly, improper size or of a different size.
A repair or alteration has changed detection capabilities.
A parked vehicle has a high attachment. For example, a salt sprayer, snowplow or moving truck bed.
The parking space length or position of parked objects changed after your vehicle passed.
The temperature around your vehicle changes quickly. For example, when driving from a heated garage into the cold, or after leaving a carwash.

Why does the vehicle not come back toward the middle of the lane, as expected, in the Aid or Aid + Alert mode?
High cross winds are present.
There is a large road crown.
Rough roads, grooves or shoulder drop-offs.
Heavy uneven loading of the vehicle or improper tire inflation pressure.
The tires have been changed, or the suspension has been modified.
BLIND SPOT INFORMATION
SYSTEM (If Equipped)
WARNING: Never use the Blind SpotInformation System as a replacement forusing the interior and exterior mirrors orlooking over your shoulder beforechanging lanes. The Blind Spot InformationSystem is not a replacement for carefuldriving.
The Blind Spot Information System isdesigned to aid you in detecting vehiclesthat may have entered the blind spot zone(A). The detection area is on both sides ofyour vehicle, extending rearward from theexterior mirrors to approximately 10 ft (3 m)beyond the bumper. The system is designedto alert you if certain vehicles enter the blindspot zone while driving.
Note:The Blind Spot Information Systemdoes not prevent contact with other vehiclesor objects; nor detect parked vehicles,people, animals or infrastructure (fences,guardrails, trees). It’s only designed to alertyou to vehicles in the blind spot zones.

•If your transmission is equipped with aGrade Assist or Tow/Haul feature, usethis feature when towing. This providesengine braking and helps eliminateexcessive transmission shifting foroptimum fuel economy and transmissioncooling.
•Allow more distance for stopping with atrailer attached. Anticipate stops andbrake gradually.
•Avoid parking on a grade. However, ifyou must park on a grade:
1. Turn the steering wheel to point yourvehicle tires away from traffic flow.
2. Set your vehicle parking brake.
3.Place the automatic transmission in park(P).
4. Place wheel chocks in front and back ofthe trailer wheels. Chocks are notincluded with your vehicle.
Launching or Retrieving a Boat orPersonal Watercraft (PWC)
Note:Disconnect the wiring to the trailerbefore backing the trailer into the water.
Note:Reconnect the wiring to the trailerafter removing the trailer from the water.
When backing down a ramp during boatlaunching or retrieval:
•Do not allow the static water level to riseabove the bottom edge of the rearbumper.
•Do not allow waves to break higher than6 in (15 cm) above the bottom edge ofthe rear bumper.
Exceeding these limits may allow water toenter vehicle components:
•Causing internal damage to thecomponents.
•Affecting driveability, emissions, andreliability.
Any time the rear axle submerges in water,replace the rear axle lubricant. Water maycontaminate the rear axle lubricant, which isnot a normal maintenance inspection itemunless there is a possibility of a leak or otheraxle repair is required.
TOWING THE VEHICLE ON FOUR
WHEELS
Emergency Towing
If your vehicle becomes inoperable (withoutaccess to wheel dollies or vehicle transporttrailer), it can be flat-towed (all wheels on theground, regardless of the powertrain andtransmission configuration) under thefollowing conditions:
•Your vehicle is facing forward for towingin a forward direction.
•Shift into neutral (N). If you cannot shiftthe transmission into neutral (N), you mayneed to override it. See Transmission(page 175).
•Maximum speed is 35 mph (56 km/h).
•Maximum distance is 50 mi (80 km).
WARNING: If your vehicle has asteering wheel lock make sure the ignitionis in the accessory or on position whenbeing towed.

BREAKING-IN
You need to break in new tires forapproximately 300 mi (480 km). During thistime, your vehicle may exhibit some unusualdriving characteristics.
Avoid driving too fast during the first 1,000 mi(1,600 km). Vary your speed frequently andchange up through the gears early. Do notlabor the engine.
Do not tow during the first 1,000 mi(1,600 km).
ECONOMICAL DRIVING
Fuel economy is affected by several thingssuch as how you drive, the conditions youdrive under and how you maintain yourvehicle.
There are some things to keep in mind thatmay improve your fuel economy:
•Accelerate and slow down in a smooth,moderate fashion.
•Drive at steady speeds.
•Anticipate stops; slowing down mayeliminate the need to stop.
•Combine errands and minimizestop-and-go driving (When runningerrands, go to the furthest destinationfirst and then work your way back home).
•Close the windows for high-speeddriving.
•Drive at reasonable speeds.
•Keep the tires properly inflated and useonly the recommended size.
•Use the recommended engine oil.
•Perform all regularly scheduledmaintenance.
There are also some things you may want toavoid doing because they reduce your fueleconomy:
•Avoid sudden or hard accelerations.
•Avoid revving the engine before turningoff the car.
•Avoid long idle periods.
•Do not warm up your vehicle on coldmornings.
•Reduce the use of air conditioning andheat.
•Avoid using speed control in hilly terrain.
•Do not rest your foot on the brake pedalwhile driving.
•Avoid carrying unnecessary weight.
•Avoid adding particular accessories toyour vehicle (e.g. bug deflectors,rollbars/light bars, running boards, skiracks).
•Avoid driving with the wheels out ofalignment.
DRIVING THROUGH WATER
WARNING: Do not drive throughflowing or deep water as you may losecontrol of your vehicle.
Note:Driving through standing water cancause vehicle damage.
Note:Engine damage can occur if waterenters the air filter.

Vehicles Sold in the United States:Getting Roadside Assistance
To fully assist you should you have a vehicleconcern, Lincoln Motor Company offers acomplimentary roadside assistance program.This program is separate from the NewVehicle Limited Warranty.
The service is available:
•Throughout the life of the vehicle fororiginal owners.
•For six years or 70,000 mi (110,000 km)(whichever comes first) for subsequentowners.
Roadside Assistance covers:
•A flat tire change with a good spare(except vehicles supplied with a tireinflation kit).
•Battery jump start.
•Lock-out assistance (key replacementcost is the client's responsibility).
•Fuel delivery — independent servicecontractors, if not prohibited by state,local or municipal law shall deliver up to2 gal (8 L) of gasoline or 5 gal (20 L) ofdiesel fuel to a disabled vehicle.Roadside Assistance limits fuel deliveryservice to two no-charge occurrenceswithin a 12-month period.
•Winch out — available within 100 ft (30 m)of a paved or county maintained road,no recoveries.
•Towing — independent servicecontractors, if not prohibited by state,local or municipal law shall tow Lincolneligible vehicles to the client's selling orpreferred dealer within 100 mi (160 km)of the disablement location or to thenearest Lincoln dealer. If a client requestsa tow to a selling or preferred dealer thatis more than 100 mi (160 km) from thedisablement location, the client isresponsible for any mileage costs inexcess of 100 mi (160 km).
•Roadside Assistance includes up to $200for a towed trailer if the disabled eligiblevehicle requires service at the nearestauthorized dealer. If the towing vehicleis operational but the trailer is not, thenthe trailer does not qualify for anyroadside services.

Cooling system
•Protect against freezing temperatures.
•When removing your vehicle fromstorage, check coolant fluid level.Confirm that there are no cooling systemleaks and that fluid is at therecommended level.
Battery
•Check and recharge as necessary. Keepconnections clean.
•If storing your vehicle for more than 30days without recharging the battery, werecommend that you disconnect thebattery cables to maintain battery chargefor quick starting.
Note:It is necessary to reset memoryfeatures if battery cables are disconnected.
Brakes
•Make sure the brakes and parking brakerelease fully.
Tires
•Maintain recommended air pressure.
Miscellaneous
•Make sure all linkages, cables, levers andpins under your vehicle are covered withgrease to prevent rust.
•Move vehicles at least 25 ft (7.5 m) every15 days to lubricate working parts andprevent corrosion.
Removing Vehicle From Storage
When your vehicle is ready to come out ofstorage, do the following:
•Wash your vehicle to remove any dirt orgrease film build-up on window surfaces.
•Check windshield wipers for anydeterioration.
•Check under the hood for any foreignmaterial that may have collected duringstorage such as mice or squirrel nests.
•Check the exhaust for any foreignmaterial that may have collected duringstorage.
•Check tire pressures and set tire inflationper the Tire Label.
•Check brake pedal operation. Drive yourvehicle 15 ft (4.5 m) back and forth toremove rust build-up.
•Check fluid levels (including coolant, oiland gas) to make sure there are no leaks,and fluids are at recommended levels.
•If you remove the battery, clean thebattery cable ends and check fordamage.
Contact an authorized dealer if you have anyconcerns or issues.
BODY STYLING KITS
The distance between the underside of yourvehicle and the ground is less than that ofother models. Drive with extreme care toavoid damage to your vehicle.
