FRONT PASSENGER SENSING
SYSTEM
WARNINGS
Even with advanced restraints systems,properly restrain children 12 and underin a rear seating position. Failure to followthis could seriously increase the risk of injuryor death.
Sitting improperly, out of position orwith the seatback reclined too far cantake weight off the seat cushion and affectthe decision of the passenger sensingsystem, resulting in serious injury or deathin the event of a crash. Always sit uprightagainst your seat back, with your feet on thefloor.
Any alteration or modification to thefront passenger seat may affect theperformance of the front passenger sensingsystem. This could seriously increase the riskof injury or death.
This system works with sensors that are partof the front passenger seat and safety beltto detect the presence of a properly-seatedoccupant and determine if the frontpassenger frontal airbag should be enabled(may inflate) or not.
The front passenger sensing system uses apassenger airbag status indicator thatilluminates indicating that the frontpassenger frontal airbag is either on(enabled) or off (disabled).
The indicator lamp is in the center stack ofthe instrument panel.
Note:The passenger airbag status indicatoroff and on indicator lamps illuminate for ashort period of time when you first switch theignition on to confirm it is functional.
The front passenger sensing system isdesigned to disable (will not inflate) the frontpassenger frontal airbag when the frontpassenger seat is unoccupied, or a rearfacing infant seat, a forward-facing childrestraint, or a booster seat is detected. Evenwith this technology, parents are stronglyencouraged to always properly restrainchildren in the rear seat. The sensor alsoturns off the passenger front airbag whenthe passenger seat is empty.
•When the front passenger sensingsystem disables (will not inflate) the frontpassenger frontal airbag, the passengerairbag status indicator illuminates the offlamp and stays lit to remind you that thefront passenger frontal airbag is disabled.
•If you install the child restraint and thepassenger airbag status indicatorilluminates the on lamp, then switch thevehicle off, remove the child restraintfrom the vehicle and reinstall the restraintfollowing the child restraintmanufacturer's instructions.

The design and development of the sideairbag system included recommendedtesting procedures that were developed bya group of automotive safety experts knownas the Side Airbag Technical Working Group.These recommended testing procedureshelp reduce the risk of injuries related to thedeployment of side airbags.
DRIVER AND PASSENGER KNEE
AIRBAGS
Note:Keep the glove box door closed whiledriving for optimal performance of thepassenger knee airbag during a crash.
Note:To reduce risk of injury, do not obstructor place objects in the deployment path ofthe knee airbag.
A driver knee airbag is located under orwithin the instrument panel. A passengerknee airbag is located within or under theglove box door. During a crash, the restraintscontrol module may activate the driver andpassenger knee airbags based on crashseverity and occupant conditions. Undercertain crash and occupant conditions, the
driver and passenger knee airbag maydeploy but the driver front airbag may notactivate. As with front and side airbags, it isimportant to be properly seated andrestrained to reduce the risk of death orserious injury.
Make sure the knee airbags areoperating properly. See CrashSensors and Airbag Indicator(page 55).
SAFETY CANOPY™
WARNINGS
Do not place objects or mountequipment on or near the headliner atthe siderail that may come into contact witha deploying curtain airbag. Failure to followthese instructions may increase the risk ofpersonal injury in the event of a crash.
Do not lean your head on the door. Thecurtain airbag could injure you as itdeploys from the headliner.
WARNINGS
Do not attempt to service, repair, ormodify the curtain airbags, its fuses,the A, B, C or D pillar trim, or the headlineron a vehicle containing curtain airbags asyou could be seriously injured or killed.Contact your authorized dealer as soon aspossible.
All occupants of your vehicle includingthe driver should always wear theirsafety belts even when an airbagsupplemental restraint system and curtainairbag is provided. Failure to properly wearyour safety belt could seriously increase therisk of injury or death.
To reduce risk of injury, do not obstructor place objects in the deploymentpath of the curtain airbag.
If the curtain airbags have deployed,the curtain airbags will not functionagain. The curtain airbags (including the A,B, C and D pillar trim and headliner) must beinspected and serviced by an authorizeddealer. If the curtain airbag is not replaced,the unrepaired area will increase the risk ofinjury in a crash.

Three warning tones sound as the liftgatebegins to power close. If there is a problemwith the open or close request, one of thefollowing may occur:
•A tone sounds if the ignition is on andthe transmission is not in park (P).
•A tone sounds if the battery voltage isbelow the minimum operating voltage.
•A tone sounds if the liftgate is not fullyclosed and your vehicle is moving at aspeed greater than 3 mph (5 km/h).
If the liftgate starts to close after it has fullyopened, this indicates there may beexcessive weight on the liftgate or a possiblestrut failure. A repetitive tone sounds andthe liftgate closes under control. Removeany excessive weight from the liftgate. If theliftgate continues to close after opening,have the system checked by an authorizeddealer.
Opening and Closing the Liftgate
WARNING
Make sure all persons are clear of thepower liftgate area before using thepower liftgate control.
Note: Make sure the area behind yourvehicle is free from obstruction and thatthere is enough room for you to operate theliftgate. Objects too close to your vehicle,for example a wall, garage door or anothervehicle may come into contact with themoving liftgate. This could damage theliftgate and its components.
Note:Be careful when opening or closingthe liftgate in a garage or other enclosedarea to avoid damaging the liftgate.
Note: Do not leave the liftgate open whiledriving. This could damage the liftgate andits components.
From the Instrument Panel
With the transmission in park (P),press the button on the instrumentpanel.
Remote Control
Press the button twice within threeseconds.
Outside Control Button
Opening the Liftgate
1. Unlock the liftgate with the remotecontrol or power door unlock control. Ifa passive key is within 3 ft (1 m) of theliftgate, the liftgate unlocks when youpress the liftgate release button.

2. Press the liftgate release button.
Note:Allow the power system to open theliftgate. Manually pushing or pulling theliftgate may activate the system’s obstacledetection feature and stop the poweroperation or reverse its direction, replicatea strut failure, or damage mechanicalcomponents.
Closing the Liftgate
WARNING
Keep clear of the liftgate when usingthe rear switch.
Press and release the liftgate control button.
Stopping the Liftgate Movement
Note: Do not apply sudden excessive forceto the liftgate while it is in motion. This coulddamage the power liftgate and itscomponents.
You can stop the liftgate movement by doingany of the following:
•Pressing the liftgate control button.
•Pressing the liftgate button on the remotecontrol twice.
•Pressing the liftgate button on theinstrument panel.
•Moving your foot under and away fromthe center rear bumper in a single-kickmotion.*
*This method only works for vehicles with the
hands-free liftgate feature.
Setting the Liftgate Open Height
1. Open the liftgate.
2. Stop the liftgate movement by pressingthe control button on the liftgate when itreaches the desired height.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Condensation in the Exterior FrontLamps and Rear Lamps
Exterior front lamps and rear lamps havevents to accommodate normal changes inair pressure.
Condensation can be a natural by-productof this design. When moist air enters thelamp assembly through the vents, there is apossibility that condensation can occur whenthe temperature is cold. When normalcondensation occurs, a fine mist can form onthe interior of the lens. The fine misteventually clears and exits through the ventsduring normal operation.
Clearing time may take as long as 48 hoursunder dry weather conditions.
Examples of acceptable condensation are:
•The presence of a fine mist (no streaks,drip marks or large droplets).
•A fine mist covers less than 50% of thelens.
Examples of unacceptable condensation are:
•A water puddle inside the lamp.
•Streaks, drip marks or large dropletspresent on the interior of the lens.
If you see any unacceptable condensation,have your vehicle checked by an authorizeddealer.

Driver temperature control: Adjusts the temperature setting on the driver side. This control also adjusts the passenger sidetemperature when you switch off dual zone mode.A
Fan speed control: Adjusts the volume of air circulated in the vehicle.B
Passenger temperature control: Adjusts the temperature setting on the passenger side.C
A/C: Press to switch the air conditioning on or off. Use A/C with recirculated air to improve cooling performance and efficiency.D
Note: In certain conditions (for example, maximum defrost), the air conditioning compressor may continue to operate even thoughyou switch off the air conditioning.
MAX A/C: Press for maximum cooling. The driver and passenger settings set to LO, recirculated air flows through the instrumentpanel vents, air conditioning turns on and the fan adjusts to the highest speed.E
Recirculated air: Press to switch between outside air and recirculated air. The air currently in the passenger compartment recirculates.This may reduce the time needed to cool the interior (when used with A/C) and reduce unwanted odors from entering your vehicle.F
Note: Recirculated air may turn off (or prevent you from switching on) in all air flow modes except MAX A/C to reduce the risk offogging. Recirculation may also turn on and off in Panel or Panel/Floor air flow modes during hot weather in order to improve coolingefficiency.
Heated seats: Press to switch the heated seats on and off. See Heated Seats (page 160).G
Climate controlled seats: Press to switch the climate controlled seats on and off. See Climate Controlled Seats (page 161).H
DUAL: Press to switch on temperature control for the passenger side of the vehicle. When dual zone is off, passenger temperaturesettings remain the same as the driver settings.I
AUTO: Press to switch on automatic operation. Adjust to select the desired temperature. Fan speed, air distribution, air conditioningoperation, and outside or recirculated air adjust to heat or cool the vehicle to maintain the desired temperature. You can also switchoff dual zone mode by pressing and holding for more than two seconds.

Power: Press to switch the system on and off. When the system is off, it prevents outside air from entering the vehicle.K

Climate Control

Defrost: Press to distribute air through the windshield air vents and de-mister. Air distribution to the instrument panel and footwellvents turns off. You can also use this setting to defog and clear the windshield of a thin covering of ice.L
Heated rear window: Press to switch the heated rear window on and off. See Heated Windows and Mirrors (page 148).M
HINTS ON CONTROLLING THE
INTERIOR CLIMATE
General Hints
Note:Prolonged use of recirculated air maycause the windows to fog up.
Note:You may feel a small amount of airfrom the footwell air vents regardless of theair distribution setting.
Note:To reduce humidity build-up insideyour vehicle, do not drive with the systemswitched off or with recirculated air alwaysswitched on.
Note:Do not place objects under the frontseats as this may interfere with the airflowto the rear seats.
Note:Remove any snow, ice or leaves fromthe air intake area at the base of thewindshield.
Note:To improve the time to reach acomfortable temperature in hot weather,drive with the windows open until you feelcold air through the air vents.
Automatic Climate Control
Note:Adjusting the settings when yourvehicle interior is extremely hot or cold is notnecessary.
Note:The system adjusts to heat or cool theinterior to the temperature you select asquickly as possible.
Note:For the system to function efficiently,the instrument panel and side air ventsshould be fully open.
Note:If you select AUTO during cold outsidetemperatures, the system directs air flow tothe windshield and side window vents. Inaddition, the fan may run at a slower speeduntil the engine warms up.
Note:If you select AUTO during hottemperatures and the inside of the vehicleis hot, the system uses recirculated air tomaximize interior cooling. Fan speed mayalso reduce until the air cools.
Quickly Heating the Interior
1. Press AUTO.
2. Adjust the temperature function to thedesired setting.
Recommended Settings for Heating
1. Press AUTO.
2. Adjust the temperature function to thedesired setting. Use 72°F (22°C) as astarting point, then adjust the setting asnecessary.
Quickly Cooling the Interior
1. Press MAX A/C.
