On Board Diagnostics Data LinkConnector
WARNING
Do not connect wireless plug-indevices to the data link connector.Unauthorized third parties could gain accessto vehicle data and impair the performanceof safety related systems. Only allow repairfacilities that follow our service and repairinstructions to connect their equipment tothe data link connector.
Your vehicle has an OBD Data LinkConnector (DLC) that is used in conjunctionwith a diagnostic scan tool for vehiclediagnostics, repairs and reprogrammingservices. Installing an aftermarket device thatuses the DLC during normal driving forpurposes such as remote insurance companymonitoring, transmission of vehicle data toother devices or entities, or altering theperformance of the vehicle, may cause
interference with or even damage to vehiclesystems. We do not recommend or endorsethe use of aftermarket plug-in devices unlessapproved by Ford. The vehicle Warranty willnot cover damage caused by an aftermarketplug-in device.

WARNING
Driving while distracted can result inloss of vehicle control, crash and injury.We strongly recommend that you useextreme caution when using any device thatmay take your focus off the road. Yourprimary responsibility is the safe operationof your vehicle. We recommend against theuse of any hand-held device while drivingand encourage the use of voice-operatedsystems when possible. Make sure you areaware of all applicable local laws that mayaffect the use of electronic devices whiledriving.
Using mobile communications equipment isbecoming increasingly important in theconduct of business and personal affairs. However, you must not compromise yourown or others’ safety when using suchequipment. Mobile communications canenhance personal safety and security whenappropriately used, particularly in emergencysituations. Safety must be paramount whenusing mobile communications equipment toavoid negating these benefits. Mobilecommunication equipment includes, but isnot limited to, cellular phones, pagers,portable email devices, text messagingdevices and portable two-way radios.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON
RADIO FREQUENCIES
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCCRules and with Licence exempt RSSStandards of Industry Canada. Operation issubject to the following two conditions:
•This device may not cause harmfulinterference, and
•This device must accept any interferencereceived, including interference that maycause undesired operation.
WARNING
Changes or modifications notexpressively approved by the partyresponsible for compliance could void theuser's authority to operate the equipment.The term "IC:" before the radio certificationnumber only signifies that Industry Canadatechnical specifications were met.
The typical operating range for yourtransmitter is approximately 33 ft (10 m).Vehicles with the remote start feature willhave a greater range. One of the followingcould cause a decrease in operating range:
•weather conditions
•nearby radio towers
•structures around the vehicle
•other vehicles parked next to yourvehicle
Other short-distance radio transmitters, suchas amateur radios, medical equipment,wireless headphones, remote controls andalarm systems may operate on the samefrequency as your remote control. If othertransmitters are operating on thosefrequencies, you may not be able to use yourremote control. Using your remote controlnear some types of electronic equipment,such as USB devices, computers or cellphones can interfere with remote operation.Operating your remote control near metal ormetallic-finished purses, bags or clothing caninterfere with remote operation. You can lockand unlock the doors with the key.
Note:Make sure to lock your vehicle beforeleaving it unattended.
Note:If you are in range, the remote controlwill operate if you press any buttonunintentionally.
Intelligent Access
The system uses a radio frequency signal tocommunicate with your vehicle and authorizeyour vehicle to unlock when one of thefollowing conditions are met:
•You touch the inside of any exterior doorhandle within 3 ft (1 m) proximity of anintelligent access key.
•You press the luggage compartmentbutton.
•You press a button on the transmitter.
If excessive radio frequency interference ispresent in the area or if the transmitterbattery is low, you may need to mechanicallyunlock your door. You can use themechanical key blade in your intelligentaccess key to open the driver door in thissituation. See Remote Control (page 58).

REMOTE CONTROL
Intelligent Access Key
Note:You may not be able to shift out ofpark (P) unless the intelligent access key isinside your vehicle.
The intelligent access keys operate thepower locks and the remote start system. The key must be in your vehicle to use thepush button start.
Note: Your vehicle keys came with asecurity label that provides important keycut information. Keep the label in a safeplace for future reference.
Removable Key Blade
The intelligent access key also contains aremovable key blade that you can use tounlock your vehicle.
Push the release button and pull the keyblade out.
Replacing the Battery
Note:Refer to local regulations whendisposing of transmitter batteries.
Note:Do not wipe off any grease on thebattery terminals or on the back surface ofthe circuit board.

Note: Replacing the battery does not erasethe programmed key from your vehicle. Thetransmitter should operate normally.
A message appears in the informationdisplay when the remote control battery islow. See Information Messages (page 123).
The remote control uses one coin-typethree-volt lithium battery CR2450 orequivalent.
1.Push the release button and pull the keyblade out.2. Twist a thin coin under the tab hiddenbehind the key blade head to removethe battery cover.
3. Insert a suitable tool, for example ascrewdriver, in the position shown andcarefully remove the battery.
4. Install a new battery with the + facingupward.

5. Reinstall the battery cover and the keyblade.
Car Finder
Press the button twice within threeseconds. A tone sounds and thedirection indicators will flash. Werecommend you use this method to locateyour vehicle, rather than using the panicalarm.
Sounding the Panic Alarm
Note:The panic alarm only operates whenthe ignition is off.
Press the button to sound thepanic alarm. Press the buttonagain or switch the ignition on toturn it off.
Remote Start
WARNING
To avoid exhaust fumes, do not useremote start if your vehicle is parkedindoors or in areas that are not wellventilated.
Note:Do not use remote start if your fuellevel is low.
The remote start button is on thetransmitter.
This feature allows you to start your vehiclefrom the outside. The transmitter has anextended operating range.
You can configure your automatic climatecontrol to operate when you remote startyour vehicle. See Climate Control (page143).
Many states and provinces have restrictionsfor the use of remote start. Check your localand state or provincial laws for specificrequirements regarding remote startsystems.
The remote start system does not work if anyof the following occur:
•The ignition is on.
•The anti-theft alarm triggers.
•You switch the feature off in theinformation display.
•The hood is open.
•The transmission is not in park (P).
•The battery voltage is below theminimum operating voltage.
Remote Control Feedback (If Equipped)
An LED on the remote control provides statusfeedback of remote start or stop commands.

Remote Starting your Vehicle
Note: You must press each button withinthree seconds of each other. If you do notfollow this sequence, your vehicle does notstart remotely, the direction indicators donot flash twice and the horn does not sound.
The label on your transmitter details thestarting procedure.
1. Press the lock button to lock all thedoors.
2.Press the remote start button twice. Theexterior lamps flash twice.
A tone sounds if the system fails to start.
Note:You must press the push buttonignition switch on the instrument panel oncewhile applying the brake pedal beforedriving your vehicle.
The power windows do not work duringremote start and the radio does not turn onautomatically.
The parking lamps remain on and yourvehicle will run for 5, 10 or 15 minutes,depending on the setting.
Extending the Engine Running Time
To extend the engine running time durationof your vehicle during remote start, repeatsteps 1 and 2 while the engine is running. Ifthe duration is set to 15 minutes, the durationextends by another 15 minutes. For example,if your vehicle had been running from thefirst remote start for 5 minutes, your vehiclecontinues to run now for a total of 30minutes. You can extend the engine runningtime duration to a maximum of 30 minutes.
Wait at least five seconds before remotestarting after the engine stops running.
Turning Your Vehicle Off After RemoteStarting
Press the button once. Yourvehicle and the parking lamps turnoff.
You may have to be closer to your vehiclethan when starting due to ground reflectionand the added noise of your running vehicle.
You can switch this feature on or off in theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 112).
Memory Feature
You can program your intelligent access keyto recall memory positions. See MemoryFunction (page 155).
REPLACING A LOST KEY OR
REMOTE CONTROL
Replacement keys or remote controls canbe purchased from an authorized dealer.Authorized dealers can program remotecontrols for your vehicle. See PassiveAnti-Theft System (page 79).

Note:Not every feature applies to everyvehicle in every market. When they areavailable for your vehicle, then they appearin your information display, providing choicesto switch them on or off, or to select a morespecific setting.
•Various vehicle speed limits so theMyKey driver cannot exceed certainspeeds. The information display showswarnings followed by an audible tonewhen the MyKey driver reaches the setspeed. You cannot override the setspeed by fully depressing the acceleratorpedal.
WARNING
Do not set MyKey maximum speed limitto a limit that will prevent the driverfrom maintaining a safe speed consideringposted speed limits and prevailing roadconditions. The driver is always responsibleto drive in accordance with local laws andprevailing conditions. Failure to do so couldresult in accident or injury.
•Various vehicle speed reminders soMyKey drivers know when their vehiclespeed approaches the limits. Warningsappear in your information display and atone sounds when the MyKey driversexceed the set vehicle speed.
•The audio system's maximum volumelimits to 45% so MyKey drivers canconcentrate on the road. A messageappears in the information display whenMyKey drivers attempt to exceed thelimited volume. MyKey also disables theautomatic volume control. Note: If yourvehicle includes an AM/FM radio or avery basic audio system, then the radiomay not limit.
•Always on setting. This setting forcescertain features to remain on and activefor MyKey drivers. For example, E911 oremergency assistance and the do notdisturb features stay on even if a MyKeydriver uses the feature's control to switchit off.
CREATING A MYKEY
Use the information display to create aMyKey:
1. Insert the key you want to program intothe ignition. See Starting a GasolineEngine (page 169). If your vehicle isequipped with a push-button start, placethe remote control into the backupposition. See Passive Anti-Theft System(page 79).
2. Switch the ignition on.
3.Access the main menu on the informationdisplay controls. Use the arrow keys toget to the following menu selections:
