Locking the Doors
With your passive key within 3 ft (1 m) of yourvehicle, touch the outer door handle locksensor for approximately one second to lock,being careful not to touch the unlock sensoron the back of the door handle at the sametime. After locking, you can immediately pullon the door handle to confirm lockingoccurred without inadvertently unlocking.
Opening the Liftgate with the RemoteControl
Press the exterior liftgate release buttoninside of the liftgate handle. The liftgateunlocks and opens. See Opening theLiftgate From Outside Your Vehicle (page98).

Why does the keyless entry system notfunction?
If the system does not function it maybe limited. See Keyless EntryLimitations (page 91). If the system stilldoes not function use the remotecontrol or the key blade to lock andunlock your vehicle.
Why can I not lock my vehicle?
If you electronically lock your vehiclewith a rear door or the tailgate open, thesystem searches for a passive key insideyour vehicle after you close the lastdoor. If the system detects a key, alldoors unlock indicating that a key isinside. Your vehicle locks if anotherpassive key is within the detection rangeafter you close the last door.

PERSONAL ACCESS CODES
Programming a Personal Entry Code
1.Enter the five-digit master code.
2.Press 1·2 on the keypad within fiveseconds.
3.Enter your personal five-digit code. Youmust do this within five seconds ofcompleting Step 2.
4.Press 1·2 on the keypad to save personalcode 1.
The doors lock then unlock to confirm thatprogramming was successful.
To program additional personal entry codes,repeat Steps 1 through 3, then for Step 4:
•Press 3·4 to save personal code 2.
•Press 5·6 to save personal code 3.
•Press 7·8 to save personal code 4.
•Press 9·0 to save personal code 5.
If your vehicle comes with SYNC, you canalso program the system with a personalentry code.
Hints:
•Do not set a code that uses five of thesame number.
•Do not use five numbers in sequentialorder.
•The five-digit master code works even ifyou have set your own personal code.
Erasing a Personal Code
1.Enter the five-digit master code.
2.Press and release 1·2 on the keypadwithin five seconds.
3.Press and hold 1·2 for two seconds. Youmust do this within five seconds ofcompleting Step 2.
All personal codes erase and only thefive-digit master code works.
Anti-Scan Feature
The keypad goes into an anti-scan mode ifyou enter the wrong code seven times. Thismode turns off the keypad for one minuteand the keypad lamp flashes.

The anti-scan feature turns off after:
•One minute of keypad inactivity.
•You press the unlock button on theremote control.
•You switch the ignition on.

Why does the keypad not accept the accesscode?
If you enter the access code too fast onthe keypad, the unlock function may notwork. Slowly re-enter the access code.
Why does the keypad not function?
The keypad goes into an anti-scanmode if you enter a wrong code seventimes. The anti-scan mode disables thekeypad for one minute and the red lightflashes.

LIFTGATE PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: It is extremely dangerousto ride in a cargo area, inside or outside ofa vehicle. In a crash, people riding in theseareas are more likely to be seriouslyinjured or killed. Do not allow people toride in any area of your vehicle that is notequipped with seats and seatbelts. Makesure everyone in your vehicle is in a seatand properly using a seatbelt. Failure tofollow this warning could result in seriouspersonal injury or death.
WARNING: Make sure that you fullyclose the liftgate to prevent exhaust fumesfrom entering your vehicle. If you areunable to fully close the liftgate, open theair vents or the windows to allow fresh airto enter your vehicle. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injuryor death.
WARNING: Keep keys out of reachof children. Do not allow children tooperate or play near an open or movingpower liftgate. You should supervise theoperation of the power liftgate at all times.

Switching the Power Liftgate On or Off
You can switch the power liftgate on or offthrough the vehicle settings on yourtouchscreen.
Note:When switched off, the liftgate onlyunlatches and will not power open or close.
OPENING THE LIFTGATE USING THEREMOTE CONTROL
Press the button twice within threeseconds.
Note:Be careful when opening or closingthe liftgate in a garage or other enclosedarea to avoid damaging the liftgate.

OPENING THE HANDS-FREE LIFTGATE
(If Equipped)
Make sure you have the passive key within3 ft (1 m) of the liftgate.
1.Stand behind your vehicle, and face theliftgate.
2.Move your foot, in a single-kick motion,without pausing, under and away fromthe rear bumper detection area.
3.The liftgate opens.
Avoid the following actions when using thehands-free opening feature:
•Making physical contact with the bumper.
•Holding your foot under the bumper.
•Sweeping your foot from side to side, orkicking at an odd angle.

Detection Zones
The detection area is on the left-hand sideand right-hand side of the rear bumper area.
Note:Some vehicles may have the ability todetect the kicking motion from under thetrailer hitch.
Note:Allow the power system to open theliftgate. Manually pushing or pulling theliftgate may activate the system’s obstacledetection feature and stop the poweroperation or reverse its direction, replicatea strut failure, or damage mechanicalcomponents.
Note:Any physical actions that mimic akicking motion such as splashing water,trailer chains or vacuum hoses may causethe hands-free liftgate to activate. Switch thepower liftgate off through your vehiclesettings or keep the passive key away fromthe rear bumper detection area.
SETTING THE LIFTGATE OPENING
HEIGHT
1.Open the liftgate.
2.Stop the liftgate movement by pressingthe control button on the liftgate when itreaches the desired height.
Note:Once the liftgate stops moving, youcan manually move it to the desired height.
3.Press and hold the control button on theliftgate until a tone sounds, indicatingprogramming is complete.
Note:You can only use the liftgate controlbutton to program the height.
Note:You cannot program the height if theliftgate position is too low.
4.The power liftgate now opens at theprogrammed height. To change theprogrammed height, repeat the steps.
Note:You can fully open the liftgate bymanually pushing it upward to the maximumopen position if it opens in a lower position.
Note:The system recalls the newprogrammed height until you reprogram it,even if you disconnect the battery.

PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
WHAT IS THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFTSYSTEM
The passive anti-theft system preventssomeone from starting the vehicle with anincorrectly coded key.
Note:Do not leave a duplicate coded keyin your vehicle. Always take the keys andlock all the doors when leaving your vehicle.
HOW DOES THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFTSYSTEM WORK
The passive anti-theft system arms when youswitch the ignition off.
It disarms when the ignition is switched onwith a correctly coded key.
Note:The system is not compatible withnon-Ford aftermarket remote start systems.
Note:Do not leave a duplicate coded keyin your vehicle. Always take the keys andlock all doors when leaving your vehicle.
ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM
WHAT IS THE ANTI-THEFT ALARMSYSTEM
The anti-theft alarm system warns you of anunauthorized entry to your vehicle.
HOW DOES THE ANTI-THEFT ALARMSYSTEM WORK
When armed, the anti-theft alarm is triggeredin any of the following ways:
•If someone opens a door, the tailgate orthe hood without a correctly coded keyor remote control.
•If you turn the power on without acorrectly coded key.
•If the interior sensors detect movementinside your vehicle.
•If the inclination sensors detect anattempt to raise your vehicle.
•If someone disconnects the vehiclebattery or the battery backup alarm.
•If someone disconnects the trailer. SeeConnecting a Trailer (page 345).
Any further attempts to carry out one of theabove, sounds the alarm again.
If the anti-theft alarm is triggered, the alarmhorn sounds for 30 seconds and the turnsignals flash for five minutes.
WHAT IS THE PERIMETER ALARM
The perimeter alarm is designed to detectunauthorized access to your vehicle.
WHAT ARE THE INTERIOR SENSORS
The interior sensors are designed to detectany movement inside your vehicle.
The interior sensors are in the overheadconsole.
