INTELLIGENT ADAPTIVE CRUISE
CONTROL
HOW DOES INTELLIGENT ADAPTIVECRUISE CONTROL WORK
Lincoln Co-Pilot 360 and 360+
Intelligent adaptive cruise control combinesspeed sign recognition with adaptive cruisecontrol to adjust the cruise set speed to thespeed limit detected by the speed signrecognition system. As the system detectsnew speed signs, the set speed updates.
There are limitations that affect the accuracyof the speed sign recognition system and itsability to determine the current speed limit. The intelligent adaptive cruise control systemand its ability to determine the current speedlimit shares these limitations. See SpeedSign Recognition (page 332).
Note:The adaptive cruise control gap settingoperates normally.
INTELLIGENT ADAPTIVE CRUISECONTROL PRECAUTIONS

WHAT IS SPEED SIGN
RECOGNITION
Speed sign recognition detects speed limitsigns to inform you of the current speed limit.Detected speed signs appear in theinstrument cluster display.
HOW DOES SPEED SIGN
RECOGNITION WORK
Speed sign recognition uses a sensor behindthe interior mirror to detect speed signs.
If your vehicle has speed sign recognitionwith navigation, stored speed sign data mayinfluence the indicated speed limit value.
SPEED SIGN RECOGNITION
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: You are responsible forcontrolling your vehicle at all times. Thesystem is designed to be an aid and doesnot relieve you of your responsibility todrive with due care and attention. Failureto follow this instruction could result in theloss of control of your vehicle, personalinjury or death.
WARNING: In cold and severeweather conditions the system may notfunction. Rain, snow and spray can all limitsensor performance.
WARNING: The system may notoperate properly if the sensor is blocked.Keep the windshield free from obstruction.
Note:Do not carry out windshield repairs inthe immediate area surrounding the sensor.
Note:If your vehicle has a suspension kitnot approved by Ford, the system may notcorrectly function.
Note:The system may not detect all speedsigns and may incorrectly read signs.
Note:Always fit our original parts whenreplacing headlamp bulbs. Other bulbs mayreduce system performance.
SPEED SIGN RECOGNITION
LIMITATIONS
Speed sign recognition may not operatecorrectly due to:
•Outdated map data.
•Incorrect recognition of speed limits bythe sensor of signs on parallel roads orexit ramps.
•Missed recognition of faded, dirty, ordistorted signs.

For longer, trouble-free operation, keep thetop of the battery clean and dry and thebattery cables tightly fastened to the batteryterminals. If any corrosion is present on thebattery or terminals, remove the cables fromthe terminals and clean with a wire brush. You can neutralize the acid with a solutionof baking soda and water.
We recommend that you disconnect thenegative battery cable terminal from thebattery if you plan to store your vehicle foran extended period.
Note:If you only disconnect the negativebattery cable terminal, make sure it isisolated or placed away from the batteryterminal to avoid unintended connection orarcing.
If you replace the battery make sure itmatches the electrical requirements of yourvehicle.
If you disconnect or replace the battery andyour vehicle has an automatic transmission,it must relearn its adaptive strategy. Becauseof this, the transmission may shift firmly whenfirst driven. This is normal operation whilethe transmission fully updates its operationto optimum shift feel.
Battery Sensor Reset
When you install a new battery, reset thebattery sensor by doing the following:
1.Switch the ignition on, and leave theengine off.
Note:Complete Steps 2 and 3 within 10seconds.
2.Flash the high beam headlamps fivetimes, ending with the high beams off.
3.Press and release the brake pedal threetimes.
The battery warning lamp flashes three timesto confirm that the reset is successful.
Battery Management System (If Equipped)
The system monitors battery conditions andtakes actions to extend battery life. Ifexcessive battery drain is detected, thesystem temporarily disables some electricalsystems to protect the battery.
Systems included are:
•Heated rear window.
•Heated seats.
•Climate control.
•Heated steering wheel.
•Audio unit.
•Navigation system.
A message may appear in the informationdisplay to alert you that battery protectionactions are active. This message is only fornotification that an action is taking place, andnot intended to indicate an electrical problemor that the battery requires replacement.
