When the doors are locked by
pressing the lock button on the
transmitter while the theft-deterrent
system is armed, the hazard warning
lights will flash once to indicate that
the system is armed.
Operation
Horn triggering conditions
The horn sounds intermittently and the
hazard warning lights flash for about
30 seconds when the system is
triggered by any one of the following:
Unlocking a door with the auxiliary
key, door lock switch, or an inside
door-lock knob.
Forcing open a door, the hood or the
liftgate.
Opening the hood by operating the
hood release handle.
Switching the vehicle power ON
without using the power switch.
If the system is triggered again, the
lights and horn will activate until the
driver's door or the liftgate is unlocked
with the transmitter.
(With the advanced keyless function)
The lights and horn can also be
deactivated by touching the sensing
area of the door release touch sensor.
NOTE
The liftgate does not open while the
theft-deterrent system is operating.
If the lead-acid battery goes dead
while the theft-deterrent system is
armed, the horn will activate and the
hazard warning lights will flash when
the lead-acid battery is charged or
replaced.
To S t o p t h e A l a r m
A triggered alarm can be turned off
using any one of the following
methods:
Pressing the unlock button on the
transmitter.
Starting the hybrid system with the
power switch.
(With the advanced keyless
function)
Touching the sensing area of the
door release touch sensor.
Pressing the electric liftgate opener
while the key is being carried.
The hazard warning lights will flash
twice.
To Turn Off an Armed System
An armed system can be turned off
using any one of the following
methods:
Pressing the unlock button on the
transmitter.
Starting the hybrid system with the
power switch.
(With the advanced keyless
function)
Touching the sensing area of the
door release touch sensor.
The hazard warning lights will flash
twice.
NOTE
When the doors are unlocked by
pressing the unlock button on the
transmitter while the theft-deterrent
system is turned off, the hazard
warning lights will flash twice to
indicate that the system is turned off.

How to Use the Rear SeatAlert
If any of the following operations is
performed, a message appears in the
instrument cluster to notify that the
system is active. Make sure that a
message appears. The message
disappears after a short period of time.
When the Rear Seat Alert is not
needed, temporarily deactivate the
system according to the message.
A rear door is opened and the hybrid
system is started.
The hybrid system is started within
about 10 minutes after a rear door is
opened and closed.
A rear door is opened after the
hybrid system is started.
The vehicle power is switched ON
while the system is active.
If the vehicle power is switched OFF
while the system is active, a message in
the instrument clus ter and a warning
sound indicate the possibility of
occupants or luggage on a second/
third-row seat. The message
disappears after a short period of time.
If the driver's door is opened/closed
after the message in the instrument
cluster disappears, notification is made
again.
When deactivating the system, perform
any of the following operations.
Switch the vehicle power to ACC or
OFF and open a rear door.
Switch the vehicle power ON again
and open a rear door before starting
the hybrid system.
Open a rear door and switch the
vehicle power to ACC or OFF.
Temporarily deactivate the system
according to the message in the
instrument cluster.
NOTE
The Rear Seat Alert determines if there
is the possibility that occupants or
luggage are on a second/third-row
seat based on the opening and closing
history of the rear doors. For this
reason, depending on the usage, it
may not be activated even if occupants
or luggage are on the second/
third-row seats, or it may activate even
if no occupants or luggage are on the
second/third-row seats. The system
will continue to be active until it is
canceled.
Examples of when the system does
not activate even if occupants or
luggage are on the second/third-row
seats.
A rear door is opened and closed in
a very short period of time.
Remote engine starting via
Connected Service is used*.The lead-acid battery charge is low.The lead-acid battery connection
was disconnected/connected.
Examples of when the system
activates even if no occupants or
luggage are on the second/third-row
seats.
A rear door is opened and closed,
but no occupant or luggage is in the
vehicle.
Occupants and luggage are
unloaded while the engine is
running.
A rear door is opened and closed in
a very short period of time.

Temporarily Deactivating the Rear
Seat Alert
When the instrument cluster displays a
message concerning the Rear Seat
Alert, the driver can temporarily
deactivate the system.
Operate according to the message
displayed in the instrument cluster.
When the message "Press and Hold
INFO Switch to Deactivate Rear Seat
Alert" is displayed in the instrument
cluster, press and hold the INFO switch
for 2 seconds or longer.
When the system is temporarily
deactivated, a chime sounds and a
message to notify that the operation
was completed appears in the
instrument cluster. The message
disappears after a short period of time.
NOTE
When the vehicle power is switched
OFF, the temporary deactivation is
canceled.
Turning the Rear Seat Alert Off
The Rear Seat Alert can be set to off
using Mazda Connect.
Refer to Mazda Connect Owner's
Manual or consult an Authorized
Mazda Dealer.
NOTE
Under the following conditions, the
warning light
turns on 2 times to
indicate the system has been stopped
when the vehicle power is switched
ON, and then turns off after a short
period of time.
The Rear Seat Alert is turned off.The Rear Seat Alert is temporarily
deactivated.
Remote engine starting via
Connected Service is used*.The lead-acid battery charge is low.

Convenient Ways to Usethe Outside Mirrors
Driving Position Memory*
The angle of the outside mirrors can be
programmed to the Driving Position
Memory.
Refer to Driving Position Memory on
page 3-33.
Auto fold function
*
When locking/unlocking the doors
while the vehicle power is switched
OFF, the outside mirrors automatically
fold in and out.
When the outside mirrors are folded in
and the vehicle power is switched ON,
or the hybrid system is started, the
outside mirrors fold out automatically.
Turn the auto fold function on using
the center display.
Refer to Settings section in the Mazda
Connect Owner's Manual or consult
an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
Operation function after hybrid
system is stopped
The angle of the outside mirrors can be
adjusted and they can be folded in and
out for about 40 seconds after the
vehicle power is switched from ON to
OFF.
Auto tilt-down outside mirror
function for reversing *
The outside mirrors can be set to tilt
downwards automatically when
reversing the vehicle. When the vehicle
is finished reversing , the outside
mirrors return to their original angle.
1. Press the select switch on the side of the door mirror to be tilted
down.
Turn on the indicator light of the
select switch.
2. Shift the selector lever to the Rposition.
The outside mirror on the side
where you pressed the select switch
will tilt downward.
NOTE
When any of the following condition is
met, the outer mirrors return to their
normal positions.
The vehicle power is switched to a
position other than ON.
The shift selector lever is shifted to a
position other than R.
The select switch is pressed again.
Automatic glare prevention function
*
In conjunction with the glare
prevention function of the auto-type
rearview mirror, only the driver's side
outside mirror reduces the light from
the headlights of on-coming vehicles.
Operation Function After Vehicle
power is Switched OFF
The outside mirrors can be operated
for about 40 seconds after the vehicle
power is switched from ON to off with
all doors closed. If any door is opened,
the outside mirrors will stop operating.

Charge port
The charge port connects the charge connector of the charge cable and charges the
high voltage battery with power from an external power supply.
AC Power Outlet (120 V/1,500 W)
The AC power outlet (120 V/1,500 W) provides power for household electrical
appliances while the vehicle power is switched ON (hybrid system off).
Approaching Vehicle Audible System
The approaching vehicle audible system notifies pedestrians of the vehicle
approaching using a warning sound while driving at low speeds.

Warning and Cautions for Using the e-SKYACTIV PHEV
The hybrid system has high voltage areas and high temperature areas. Labels
indicating the cautions on use are applied to these areas. Always follow the
instructions on the label and use the vehicle correctly.
WARNING
Be very careful of high voltage areas. In addition, do not disassemble, modify, or
remove any high voltage parts.
The following areas contain high voltage parts and may cause electrical shock if
touched.

Be very careful of high temperature areas.
The hybrid system and the engine become hot when they operate. Follow the
instructions on the label attached to the vehicle and always pay attention to high
voltage areas and high temperature areas.
Do not touch the service plug.
A service plug is installed in the high voltage battery. This service plug is used at an
Authorized Mazda Dealer when repairing vehicles in order to cut off the high voltage
of the high voltage battery. Do not touch the service plug. If you handle the service
plug mistakenly, it could lead to an electrical shock causing serious injury or death.

Maintenance and Repairs
For vehicle maintenance or repairs, consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
Technical knowledge and skill are necessary in handling the high voltage battery.
WARNING
To ensure safe and correct handling of the high voltage battery, always heed the
following precautions.
Do not remove the high voltage battery.
Do not resell, transfer, or modify the high voltage battery.
Do not make secondary use of the high voltage batter.
If the drive battery is not handled properly, the following may occur which could
lead to serious injury or death.
Touching an unattended high voltage battery may cause an electric shock.
If the high voltage battery is used on a vehicle other than the one it came
equipped on (including modified vehicles), accidents such as electric shock, heat
generation, smoking, combustion, and explosions, or an electrolyte leakage may
occur.
Heed the following instructions to prevent deterioration of the high voltage battery
or damage to the high voltage battery.
Do not leave the vehicle for a long time under extremely high or low temperature
conditions.
Do not leave the vehicle for 14 days or longer while the high voltage battery power
gauge is at Empty (level 0).

If an Accident Occurs
Heed the following cautions to prevent serious injury such as electric shock, or in the
worst case death.
WARNING
Do not continue to drive the vehicle.
To prevent further accidents, stop the vehicle in a safe place, shift the selector lever
to the P position, and then apply the parking brake to stop the hybrid system.
Never touch electrical wiring that may be protruding into or outside of the cabin.
Otherwise, it could result in electrical shock and serious injury.
Never touch any area where electrolyte is visible or electrolyte is leaking from the
area.
If electrolyte from the high voltage battery gets in the eyes or on the skin, it could
cause loss of vision or skin reactions. If electrolyte comes into contact with the eyes,
do not rub them, and after flushing with water for 15 minutes or longer, seek
medical attention immediately. In addition, if electrolyte comes into contact with
the skin, wash the areas with soap and wate r thoroughly. If you feel any abnormality
in your body, seek medical attention immediately.
Never approach objects that are on fire or extremely hot.
Electrolyte in the high voltage battery may cause a fire. If the vehicle catches fire,
extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher (type ABC, BC, or C). Only extinguish a
fire with water when a large amount of water is available such as from a fire hydrant.
Using a small amount of water may cause the fire to spread.
Do not tow the vehicle with the front wheels or the rear wheels grounded.
Otherwise, the motor generates electricity which may cause a fire depending on the
condition of the damage. When towing the vehicle, tow it with all 4 wheels off the
ground.
Do not start the hybrid system if there is liquid leaking from the vehicle (other than
air conditioner water).
If liquid leakage (other than air conditioner water) is found on the road surface
under the vehicle, the fuel system may be damaged. Starting the hybrid system in
this condition, may cause a fire. Do not start the hybrid system and contact an
Authorized Mazda Dealer.
Scrapping Your Vehicle and Disposing of High Voltage Battery
The high voltage battery is collected to prevent accidents involving it. When
scrapping your vehicle, replacing the high voltage battery, or disposing of the high
voltage battery, consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer. Please cooperate in ensuring
that the vehicle's high voltage battery is collected.

How to Use the
e-SKYACTIV PHEV
Switching the Drive Mode
You can switch the drive mode of the
hybrid system by operating the switch.
TOWING mode/SPORT mode/
NORMAL mode/EV mode/
OFF-ROAD mode
Refer to How to Use the Mazda
intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) on
page 5-96.
CHARGE Mode
The engine is used as a generator, and
the vehicle is driven while charging the
high voltage battery.
1. Start the hybrid system.
2.
When CHARGE mode is activated, the
CHARGE mode indicator light
in
the instrument cluster turns on.
Power is generated to the preset target
charge amount, and when the target
charge amount is reached, power is
generated to maintain it.
NOTE
Switching to CHARGE mode may not
be possible depending on the
conditions of the hybrid system.
When power consumption is high
due to the vehicle driving conditions,
outside air temperature, or when the
air conditioner is used, charging may
take longer than usual or may not
occur.
When the vehicle is driven while in
CHARGE mode, the engine operates
to generate electricity, therefore fuel
consumption may increase
compared to when driving the
vehicle in a mode other than
CHARGE mode.
If the vehicle power is switched OFF
while switching the mode to
CHARGE mode, the CHARGE mode
will be canceled the next time the
vehicle power is switched ON.
When pressing the charge mode
switch while the Mazda intelligent
Drive Select (Mi-Drive) is in EV
mode, the Mi-Drive switches to
NORMAL mode and the vehicle is
driven in CHARGE mode.
The mode may not be able to switch
to CHARGE mode when the fuel is
low.
The target charge amount can be
changed.
Refer to the Settings section in the
Mazda Connect Owner's Manual.

POWER gauge
Displays the energy used by the motor
or engine for driving. The higher the
output, the more the power meter
needle moves to the right. The more
the power meter needle moves to the
right, the easier it is to start the engine.
CHARGE gauge
Displays the energy charged in the high
voltage battery by regenerative braking.
The higher the charge, the more the
power meter needle moves
downward.
Boost indicator light
The light turns on when the energy
used for driving is at maximum output.
EV drive indicator light
The light turns on when the vehicle is
being driven using only the motor.
CHARGE mode indicator light
The light turns on when the vehicle is
being driven in CHARGE mode.
Approaching Vehicle Audible System
When the vehicle is driven at low
speeds, a warning sound is
automatically activated to warn that a
vehicle is approaching.
1. Start the hybrid system.
2. Shift the selector lever to a position other than P.
A warning sound is activated and stops
when the vehicle speed reaches 41
km/h (26 mph) or faster.
