Convenient Ways to Usethe Key
Sound function
The function that the sound notifies
you of unlocking/locking can be
turned on or off by changing the
setting in Mazda Connect. The volume
of the warning sound can also be
changed.
Auto re-lock function
All doors, the liftgate, and the fuel lid
are locked automatically if any of the
following operations are not
performed within about 60 seconds
after they are unlocked by pressing the
unlock button.
Open any door or liftgate.The vehicle power is switched to any
position other than off.
NOTE
The time until the door is automatically
locked can be changed.
Refer to the Settings section in the
Mazda Connect Owner's Manual.
Power Saving Function
By turning on the power saving
function of the key, the advanced
keyless entry and the function to start
the hybrid system without removing
the key from a pocket or purse/case
are turned off, and the battery power
consumption of the key can be
reduced.
The remote control function is still
operational by pressing a button on
the key even while the power saving
function is turned on. However, the
remote operation indicator light does
not turn on or flash.
Turning on the power saving function
1. Press the lock button on the key 4
times within 3 seconds.
The key operation indicator light
turns on.
2. Press the lock button for 2 seconds or longer while the key operation
indicator light is turned on.
The hazard warning lights and a
warning sound operate 1 time, and
the power saving function is turned
on.
Turning off the power saving function
1. Press the lock button on the key 4 times within 3 seconds.
The key operation indicator light
turns on.
2. Press the lock button for 2 seconds or longer while the key operation
indicator light is turned on.
The hazard warning lights and a
warning sound operate 1 time, and

How to Use the
e-SKYACTIV PHEV
Switching the Drive Mode
You can switch the drive mode of the
hybrid system by operating the switch.
TOWING mode/SPORT mode/
NORMAL mode/EV mode/
OFF-ROAD mode
Refer to How to Use the Mazda
intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) on
page 5-96.
CHARGE Mode
The engine is used as a generator, and
the vehicle is driven while charging the
high voltage battery.
1. Start the hybrid system.
2.
When CHARGE mode is activated, the
CHARGE mode indicator light
in
the instrument cluster turns on.
Power is generated to the preset target
charge amount, and when the target
charge amount is reached, power is
generated to maintain it.
NOTE
Switching to CHARGE mode may not
be possible depending on the
conditions of the hybrid system.
When power consumption is high
due to the vehicle driving conditions,
outside air temperature, or when the
air conditioner is used, charging may
take longer than usual or may not
occur.
When the vehicle is driven while in
CHARGE mode, the engine operates
to generate electricity, therefore fuel
consumption may increase
compared to when driving the
vehicle in a mode other than
CHARGE mode.
If the vehicle power is switched OFF
while switching the mode to
CHARGE mode, the CHARGE mode
will be canceled the next time the
vehicle power is switched ON.
When pressing the charge mode
switch while the Mazda intelligent
Drive Select (Mi-Drive) is in EV
mode, the Mi-Drive switches to
NORMAL mode and the vehicle is
driven in CHARGE mode.
The mode may not be able to switch
to CHARGE mode when the fuel is
low.
The target charge amount can be
changed.

Strength
The regenerative braking strength can
be changed.

Mazda Connect Owner's Manual.
For Eco-Friendly and Economical
Driving
Using the Drive Mode
EV mode is mainly used in urban areas,
while NORMAL mode is used in
suburban areas and on expressways,
which leads to savings in electricity and
fuel consumption.
By actively using regenerative braking
to charge the high voltage battery, it is
possible to increase the EV travel
distance and to reduce fuel
consumption when driving the vehicle
in a mode other than EV mode.
To extend cruising distance
The electrical power consumption
while driving can be reduced and the
cruising distance can be extended by
doing the following operations.
With the charge connector
connected, turn on the climate
control system to provide a
comfortable temperature in the
cabin before driving.
When driving during cold
temperatures, use the seat warmer or
steering warmer instead of the
climate control system.
Adjust the climate control system to
a moderate airflow and temperature
setting.
Refrain from using the defogger
under conditions other than when a
window is fogged or frozen.
By maintaining a sufficient distance
between vehicles and using the
regenerative braking well, more
electrical power can be charged to
the high voltage battery.
To extend the life of the high voltage
battery
The high voltage battery life changes
depending on the vehicle storage
conditions or charging method.
To extend the life of the high voltage
battery, be careful of the following.
(Charging the battery)
Avoid unnecessary, frequent
charging.
Only charge the battery with as much
power as needed, and do not always
fully charge the battery. The
maximum charge limit can be set.
Refer to Convenient Ways to Use of
Charging on page 5-118.
(Parking the vehicle)
Do not park the vehicle in a place
where the ambient temperature is
extremely high or low.
Do not leave the vehicle while the
remaining high voltage battery power
is extremely low.
If the [Battery Cooling] operation notification is displayed on the
center display after driving the
vehicle, select [Activate].

The outside temperature display may
differ from the actual outside
temperature depending on the
surroundings and vehicle conditions.
Maximum Driving
Distance Display
The maximum driving distance is
calculated and displayed based on the
current remaining charge of the high
voltage battery/fuel tank level and the
electrical power consumption rate/
fuel economy. When the maximum
driving distance is 50 km (30 miles) or
farther, the maximum driving distance
indication decreases in 10 km (10
mile) increments, and when the
maximum driving distance is 50 km
(30 miles) or shorter, it decreases in 1
km (1 mile) increments.

Average Electrical PowerConsumption Rate Display
The average energy efficiency is
calculated every 30 seconds from the
total traveled distance and the total
electrical power consumption since
the vehicle was purchased or the past
data was reset, and the rate is
displayed.

To reset the displayed average
electrical power consumption rate
data, press the INFO switch for 2
seconds or longer.
After resetting the data, - - - kWh/100
km (- - - mile/kWh) is displayed
before the average electrical power
consumption rate is recalculated and
displayed.
The average electrical power
consumption rate is also reset at the
same time as the average fuel
economy.

This mode displays the average fuel
economy by calculating the total
traveled distance and the total fuel
consumption since the vehicle was
purchased or the past data was reset.
The average fuel economy is calculated
and displayed every 30 seconds.
How to Use the AverageFuel Economy Display
To reset the displayed average fuel
economy data, press the INFO switch
for 2 seconds or longer.
After resetting the data, - - - L/100 km
(- - - mpg) is displayed until the
average fuel economy is recalculated
and displayed.
The average fuel economy is also reset
at the same time as the average

Power Consumption Rate Display
The instantaneous energy efficiency
while driving the vehicle is calculated
from the electrical power consumption
and displayed.

NOTE
Displays the 0 position when the
vehicle speed decreases to a
constant speed or slower.
The arrow on the instantaneous
electrical power consumption rate
gauge indicates the average electrical
power consumption rate.

Economy Display
This displays the current fuel economy
by calculating the amount of fuel
consumption and the distance
traveled.

NOTE
Displays the 0 position when the
vehicle speed decreases to a constant
speed or slower.

How to Use the Towing
NOTE
The three main causes of vehicle-trailer accidents are driver error, excessive speed,
and improper trailer loading.
Trailer towing causes higher fuel consumption.The extra weight of the trailer may strain the engine on hot days and on long or
steep upgrades. If the temperature gauge indicates overheating, turn off the air
conditioner, drive safely to the side of the road, park off the right-of-way and wait
for engine to cool.
Verify that your Mazda maintains a near-normal attitude when a loaded or
unloaded trailer is connected. Do not drive if it has an abnormal front-up or
front-down position. Inspect for incorrec t tongue load, worn suspension parts,
and trailer overloading.
Make sure the trailer is properly loaded and the cargo is secure to prevent it from
shifting.
Make sure the mirrors conform to all govern ment regulations. If they do not, install
required rear view mirrors appropriate for towing purposes.
