xIn the following cases, the ultrasonic sensors (rear) cannot detect obstructions correctly
and the SCBS R may not operate.
xSomething is stuck on the bumper near an ultrasonic sensor (rear).
xThe steering wheel is turned sharply, or the brake or accelerator pedal is operated.
xThere is another obstruction near one obstruction.
xDuring inclement weather such as rain, fog and snow.
xHigh or low humidity.
xHigh or low temperatures
xStrong winds.
xThe path of travel is not flat.
xHeavy luggage is loaded in the luggage compartment or on the rear seat.
xObjects such as a wireless aerial, fog light, or illuminated number plate is installed
near an ultrasonic sensor (rear).
xThe orientation of an ultrasonic sensor (rear) has deviated for reasons such as a
collision.
xThe vehicle is affected by other sound waves such as the horn, engine noise, ultrasonic
sensor of another vehicle.
xIn the following cases, an ultrasonic sensor (rear) may detect something as a target
obstruction which could cause the SCBS R system to operate.
xDriving on a steep slope.
xWheel blocks.
xHanging curtains, gate poles such as at toll gates and railroad crossing.
xWhen travelling near objects such as foliage, barriers, vehicles, walls, and fences along
a road.
xWhen driving off-road in areas where there is grass and forage.
xWhen passing through low gates, narrow gates, car washing machines, and tunnels.
xA towing bar is installed or a trailer is connected.
x(Manual transaxle)
If the vehicle is stopped by the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) operation and the clutch
pedal is not depressed, the engine stops.
xThe Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) warning indication (amber) turns on when the
system has a malfunction.

NOTE
xThe collision warning beep sounds
intermittently while the SCBS R brake is
operating.
xIf the vehicle is stopped by the SCBS R
operation and the brake pedal is not
depressed, the warning beep sounds 1
time after about 2 seconds and the SCBS
R brake is automatically released.

xWhen warnings and messages, such
as a dirty windscreen, related to the
Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) are
being displayed in the centre display.
xAlthough the objects which activate the
system are four-wheeled vehicles, the
radar sensor (front) could detect the
following objects, determine them to be
an obstruction, and operate the SBS
system.
xObjects on the road at the entrance to
a curve (including guardrails and
snow banks).
xA vehicle appears in the opposite lane
while cornering or rounding a curve.
xWhen crossing a narrow bridge.
xWhen passing under a low gate or
through a tunnel or narrow gate.
xWhen entering an underground
parking area.
xMetal objects, bumps, or protruding
objects on the road.
xIf you suddenly come close to a
vehicle ahead.
xWhen driving in areas where there is
high grass or forage.
xTwo-wheeled vehicles such as
motorbikes or bicycles.
xPedestrians or non-metallic objects
such as standing trees.
xWhen the system operates, the user is
notified by the active driving display.
xThe SBS warning indication (amber)
turns on when the system has a
malfunction.

The parking sensor detection range has limitations. For example, obstructions closing in from
the side and objects short in height may not be detected. Always confirm the safety around
the vehicle visually when driving.

display to the top view/front view or side view display if the parking sensor warning sound
is activated.
xThe front wide view screen displays the image in front of the vehicle at a wide angle and
corrects the image to help detect approaching obstructions from the side. Therefore, it

¾The parking sensor detection range has limitations. For example, obstructions closing in
from the side and objects short in height may not be detected. Always confirm the safety
around the vehicle visually when driving.

¾Do not turn the steering wheel any more until the vehicle has passed the obstruction, even
if the obstruction is not visible on the side view image. If the steering wheel is turned even
more, the vehicle may contact the obstruction if it is turned sharply.
NOTE
xBecause there might be a difference between the image displayed on the screen and the
actual conditions, always check the safety of the surrounding area using the mirrors and
directly with your eyes when driving.
xEven though the object displayed on the screen, such as a road curb or a division line of a
parking space, and the vehicle parallel guide lines appear parallel, they may not actually
be parallel.

¾The front of the vehicle swings out wide when turning the steering wheel while reversing.
Maintain sufficient distance between the vehicle and an obstruction.
¾The parking sensor detection range has limitations. For example, obstructions closing in
from the side and objects short in height may not be detected. Always confirm the safety
around the vehicle visually when driving.

NOTE
xBecause there might be a difference between the image displayed on the screen, such as
indicated in the following, and the actual conditions when parking, always check the
safety at the rear of the vehicle and the surrounding area directly with your eyes.
xEven though the back end of the parking space (or garage) displayed on the screen and
distance guide lines appear parallel, they may not actually be parallel.
xWhen parking in a space with a division line on only one side of the parking space, even
though the division line and the vehicle width guide line appear parallel, they may not
actually be parallel.
xThe following shows an example of vehicle parking with the steering wheel turned to the
right while backing up the vehicle. When backing into a parking space from the opposite
direction, the steering operation is reversed.

¾Do not hit or apply strong force to the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) or the area around
it. If the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) is severely hit or if there are cracks or damage
caused by
flying gravel or debris in the area around it, stop using the following systems
and consult an expert repairer (we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer).
¾High Beam Control System (HBC)
¾Adaptive LED Headlights (ALH)
¾Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
¾Driver Attention Alert (DAA)
¾Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
¾Traffic Sign Recognition System (TSR)
¾Advanced Smart City Brake Support (Advanced SCBS)
¾Smart City Brake Support [Forward] (SCBS F)
¾Smart Brake Support (SBS)
¾The direction in which the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) is pointed has been finely
adjusted. Do not change the installation position of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) or
remove it. Otherwise, it could result in damage or malfunction.
¾Always use tyres for all wheels that are of the
specified size, and the same manufacturer,
brand, and tread pattern. In addition, do not use tyres with significantly different wear
patterns on the same vehicle as the system may not operate normally.
¾The Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) includes a function for detecting a soiled windscreen
and informing the driver, however, depending on the conditions, it may not detect plastic
shopping bags, ice or snow on the windscreen. In such cases, the system cannot accurately
determine a vehicle ahead and may not be able to operate normally. Always drive carefully
and pay attention to the road ahead.
NOTE
xIn the following cases, the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) cannot detect target objects
correctly, and each system may be unable to operate normally.
xThe height of the vehicle ahead is low.
xYou drive your vehicle at the same speed as the vehicle ahead.
xHeadlights are not turned on during the night or when going through a tunnel.
xIn the following cases, the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) may not be able to detect
target objects correctly.
xUnder bad weather condition, such as rain, fog and snow.
xThe window washer is being used or the windscreen wipers are not used when it's
raining.
xIce, fog, snow, frost, rainfall, dirt, or foreign matter such as a plastic bag is stuck on the
windscreen.
xTrucks with low loading platforms and vehicles with an extremely low or high profile.

xIf the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) cannot operate normally due to backlight or fog,
the system functions related to the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) are temporarily
stopped and the following warning lights turn on. However, this does not indicate a
malfunction.
xHigh Beam Control System (HBC) warning light (amber)
xAdaptive LED Headlights (ALH) warning light (amber)
xLane Departure Warning System (LDWS) warning light
xLane-keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) warning

xIf the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) cannot operate normally due to high temperatures,
the system functions related to the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) are temporarily
stopped and the following warning lights turn on. However, this does not indicate a
malfunction. Cool down the area around the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) such as by
turning on the air conditioner.

xIf the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) detects that the windscreen is dirty or foggy, the
system functions related to the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) are temporarily stopped
and the following warning lights turn on. However, this does not indicate a problem.
Remove the dirt from the windscreen or press the defroster switch and defog the
windscreen.
xHigh Beam Control System (HBC) warning light (amber)
xAdaptive LED Headlights (ALH) warning light (amber)
xLane Departure Warning System (LDWS) warning light
xLane-keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) warning

xIf there are recognizable cracks or damage caused by flying gravel or debris on the
windscreen, always have the windscreen replaced. Consult an expert repairer (we
recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer) for replacement.
