Fuel and Engine Exhaust Precautions

Vehicles with catalytic converters or oxygen sensors must use O
NLY UNLEADED FUEL,
which will reduce exhaust emissions and keep spark plug fouling to a minimum.

This vehicle will perform best w ith fuel listed in the table.

U.S. federal law requires that octane ratings be posted on gaso
line station pumps.
Fuel with a rating lower than 87 octane (91 RON) will negativel y affect the emission control
system performance and could also cause engine knocking and ser ious engine damage.
CAUTION
USE ONLY UNLEADED FUEL.
Leaded fuel is harmful to th e catalytic converter and oxygen sensors and will lead to
deterioration of the emission control system and or failures.
 This vehicle can only use oxygenated fuels containing no more than 10 % ethanol by
volume. Damage to the vehicle may occur wh en ethanol exceeds this recommendation, or
if the gasoline contains any methanol. Stop using gasohol of any kind if your vehicle engine
is performing poorly.
 Never add fuel system additives, otherwise th e emission control system could be damaged.
Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer for details.
Gasoline blended with oxygenates such as alcohol or ether compo unds are generally
referred to as oxygenated fuels. The common gasoline blend that can be used with your
vehicle is ethanol blended at no more than 10 %. Gasoline conta ining alcohol, such as
ethanol or methanol, may be marketed under the name "Gasohol".

Vehicle damage and drivability problems resulting from the use of the following may not be
covered by the warranty.
Gasohol containing mo re than 10 % ethanol.
Gasoline or gasohol containing methanol.
Leaded fuel or leaded gasohol.

Outside the United States/Canada
Government regulations in the United States/Canada require that automobiles meet specific
emission regulations and safety standards. Therefore, vehicles built for use in the United
States/Canada may differ from those sold in other countries.

The differences may make it difficult or even impossible for yo ur vehicle to receive
satisfactory servicing in other countries. We strongly recommend that you NOT take your
Mazda outside the United States/Canada.

United States
However, in the event that you are moving to Canada permanently, Mazda vehicles built for
use in the United States could be eligible for exportation to C anada with specific vehicle
modifications to comply with the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS).

Canada
However, in the event that you a re moving to the United States permanently, Mazda
vehicles built for use in Canada could be eligible for exportat ion to the United States with
specific vehicle modifications t o comply with the United States Federal Motor Vehicle
Safety Standards (FMVSS).
NOTE
The above is applicable for a permanent import/export situation and not related to travelers
on vacation.
You may have the following problems if you do take your vehicle outside of the United
States/Canada:
Recommended fuel may be unavailable. Any kind of leaded fuel or low-octane fuel will
affect vehicle performance and damage the emission controls and engine.
Proper repair facilities, tools, testing equipment, and replacement parts may not be
available.
