Rocking the Vehicle
▼Rocking the Vehicle
WARNING
Do not spin the wheels at high speed,
and do not allow anyone to stand
behind a wheel when pushing the
vehicle:
When the vehicle is stuck, spinning the
wheels at high speed is dangerous. The
spinning tyre could overheat and
explode. This could cause serious
injuries.
CAUTION
Too much rocking may cause engine
overheating , transmission failure, and
tyre damage.
If you must rock the vehicle to free it
from snow, sand or mud, depress the
accelerator slightly and slowly move
the shift lever/selector lever from 1 (D)
to R position.
Winter Driving
▼Winter Driving
Carry emergency gear, including tyre
chains, window scraper,
flares, a small
shovel, jumper leads, and a small bag
of sand or salt.
Ask an expert repairer (we recommend
an Authorised Mazda Repairer) to
check the following:
xHave the proper ratio of antifreeze in
the radiator.
Refer to Engine Coolant on page
6-28.
xInspect the battery and its leads.
Cold reduces battery capacity.
xUse an engine oil appropriate for the
lowest ambient temperatures that
the vehicle will be driven in (page
6-24).
xInspect the ignition system for
damage and loose connections.
xUse washer fluid made with
antifreezeŠbut do not use engine
coolant antifreeze for washer fluid
(page 6-31).
NOTE
xRemove snow before driving. Snow
left on the windscreen is dangerous
as it could obstruct vision.
xDo not apply excessive force to a
window scraper when removing ice
or frozen snow on the mirror glass
and windscreen.
xNever use warm or hot water for
removing snow or ice from windows
and mirrors as it could result in the
glass cracking.

Windscreen Wipers and
Washer
▼Windscreen Wipers and Washer
The ignition must be switched ON to
use the wipers.
WARNING
Use only windscreen washer
fluid or
plain water in the reservoir:
Using radiator antifreeze as washer
fluid is dangerous. If sprayed on the
windscreen, it will dirty the
windscreen, affect your visibility, and
could result in an accident.
Only use windscreen washer
fluid
mixed with anti-freeze protection in
freezing weather conditions:
Using windscreen washer fluid without
anti-freeze protection in freezing
weather conditions is dangerous as it
could freeze on the windscreen and
block your vision which could cause an
accident. In addition, make sure the
windscreen is sufficiently warmed
using the defroster before spraying the
washer fluid.
NOTE
If the windscreen wipers are operated
under cold weather conditions or
during snowfall, they could stop due to
accumulated snow on the windscreen.
If the windscreen wipers stop due to
accumulated snow on the windscreen,
park the vehicle in a safe place, turn
the wiper switch off, and then remove
the accumulated snow. If the wiper
switch is turned to another position
other than OFF, the wipers will
operate. If the wipers do not operate
even though the wiper switch is turned
to a position other than OFF, consult
an expert repairer (we recommend an
Authorised Mazda Repairer) as soon as
possible.

▼Camera and Sensors
Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
The Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
detects lane indications and recognises
headlights, tail lights and city lights
during nighttime driving. In addition, it
also detects the vehicle ahead,
pedestrians, or obstructions. The
following systems use the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC).
xHigh Beam Control system (HBC) xAdaptive LED Headlights (ALH) xLane Departure Warning System
(LDWS)
xTra ffi c Sign Recognition System (TSR) xDistance & Speed Alert (DSA) xDriver Attention Alert (DAA) xMazda Radar Cruise Control
(MRCC)
xMazda Radar Cruise Control with
Stop & Go function (MRCC with
Stop & Go function)
xLane-keep Assist System (LAS) xCruising &
Tra ffi c Support (CTS) xSmart Brake Support (SBS)
The Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) is
installed at the top of the windscreen
near the rearview mirror.
Refer to Forward Sensing Camera
(FSC) on page 4-216.
Front radar sensor
The front radar sensor detects radio
waves reflected off a vehicle ahead
sent from the radar sensor. The
following systems use the front radar
sensor.
xDistance & Speed Alert (DSA) xMazda Radar Cruise Control
(MRCC)
xMazda Radar Cruise Control with
Stop & Go function (MRCC with
Stop & Go function)
xCruising & Traffic Support (CTS) xSmart Brake Support (SBS)
The front radar sensor is mounted
behind the radiator grille.
Refer to Front Radar Sensor on page
4-220.
Front side radar sensor
The front side radar sensors detects
radio waves reflected off a vehicle
ahead sent from the radar sensor. The
following systems use the front side
radar sensor.
xFront Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA)
The front side radar sensors are
installed inside the front bumper, one
on the left side and one on the right
side.
Refer to Front Side Radar Sensor on
page 4-222.
Rear side radar sensor
The rear side radar sensors emit radio
waves and detect the radio waves
reflected off a vehicle approaching
from the rear or an obstruction. The
following systems use the rear side
radar sensor.
xBlind Spot Monitoring (BSM) xRear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

The selector lever is in the P (Park), N
(Neutral), or R (Reverse) position.
Under the following conditions, the
MRCC cancel indication is displayed in
the multi-information display and a
single beep sound is heard.
xThe DSC has operated. xThe Smart Brake Support (SBS) has
operated.
xWhen travelling on a downslope for
a long period of time.
xThere is a problem with the system. xThe vehicle speed decreases to less
than 25 km (16 mph).
x(Manual transmission)
xThe shift lever is shifted to neutral
(N) for a certain period of time.
xThe clutch is depressed for a
certain period of time.
xThe engine stalls. xThe front radar sensor cannot detect
target objects (during rain, fog, snow
or other inclement weather
conditions, or when the radiator
grille is dirty).
xThe parking brake is applied. xAny of the doors is opened. xThe driver's seat belt is unfastened. xThe operation frequency of the
braking by the MRCC control is high.
Resuming control
If the MRCC system is cancelled, you
can resume control at the previously
set speed by pressing the RES switch
and after all of the operation
conditions have been met.
NOTE
If the set speed is not indicated in the
display, the control does not resume
even if the RES switch is pressed.
Turning off the system
When the MRCC switch is pressed
while the MRCC is operating, the
MRCC turns off.
▼Shift-up/Shift-down Request
Display (Manual Transmission)
The shift-up or shift-down request
display might be displayed while the
MRCC is operating. When this occurs,
shift gears because the gear position is
not appropriate.
Request Indication on display
Shift up Shift Up to a Higher Gear
Shift down Shift Down to a Lower Gear
NOTE
xIf the gears are not shifted up even
though the shift-up request
indication is displayed, load will be
applied to the engine and the MRCC
might be automatically cancelled or
engine damage could occur.
xIf the gears are not shifted down
even though the shift-down request
indication is displayed, the MRCC
might be automatically cancelled or
engine stalling could occur.
