Switches and Controls
Headlight High-Low Beam
The headlights switch between high and
low beams by moving the lever forward or
backward.

High beam
Low beam

When the headlight high-beams are on,
the headlight high-beam indicator light is
turned on.



Flashing the Headlights
Can be used when the ignition is switched
ON.
To fl ash the headlights, pull the lever fully
towards you (the headlight switch does not
need to be on).


OFF
Headlight

The headlight high-beam indicator light
in the instrument cluster illuminates
simultaneously. The lever will return to the
normal position when released.

Fog Lights *
The fog lights can be turned on with the
ignition switched ON and the headlights
turned on.
Use this switch to turn on the fog lights.
The fog lights will improve visibility at
night and during foggy conditions.
The fog lights turn on when the fog light
switch is turned to the
position and turn
off when the switch is turned to the

position.

NOTE
The fog lights will turn off when the
headlights are set at high beams.

Turn and Lane-Change
Signals
The ignition must be switched ON to use
the turn and lane-change signals.
Turn Signals
Move the signal lever down (for a left
turn) or up (for a right turn) to the stop
position. The signal will self-cancel after
the turn is completed.

If the indicator light continues to fl ash
after a turn, manually return the lever to its
original position.

Left lane change OFF

The turn signal indicators in the instrument
cluster fl ash according to the operation of
the turn signal lever to show which signal
is working.



NOTE
  If an indicator light stays on without
fl ashing or if it fl ashes abnormally, one
of the turn signal bulbs may be burned
out.
   A personalized function is available to
change the turn indicator sound volume.

i-ACTIVSENSE is a collective term covering a series of advanced safety a\
nd driver support
systems which make use of a Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) and radar sen\
sors. These
systems consist of active safety and pre-crash safety systems.
These systems are designed to assist the driver in safer driving by redu\
cing the load on the

Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
The Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) detects lane indications and recogniz\
es headlights,
taillights and city lights during nighttime driving. In addition, it als\
o detects the vehicle
ahead, pedestrians, or obstructions. The following systems also use the Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC).

Radar sensor (front)
The radar sensor (front) functions by detecting the radio waves re fl ected off a vehicle ahead
sent from the radar sensor. The following systems also use the radar sensor (front).

High Beam Control System (HBC) *
The High Beam Control System (HBC) determines the conditions in front of the vehicle
using the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) while driving in darkness to au\
tomatically switch
the headlights between high and low beams.
Refer to Warning/Indicator Lights on page 4-32 .
While driving the vehicle at a speed of about 30 km/h (19 mph) or more\
, the headlights are
switched to high beams when there are no vehicles ahead or approaching i\
n the opposite
direction.
The system switches the headlights to low beams when one of the followin\
g occurs:
  The system detects a vehicle or the headlights/lights of a vehicle appro\
aching in the
opposite direction.
   The vehicle is driven on roads lined with streetlamps or on roads in wel\
l-lit cities and
towns.
   The vehicle is driven at less than about 20 km/h (12 mph).

Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC)
The recognition distance of the
Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
varies according to the
surrounding conditions.

The warning light turns on when the system has a malfunction.
Refer to Warning Indication/Warning Lights on page 4-33 .
CAUTION
 Do not adjust the vehicle height, modify the headlight units, or remove the camera, otherwise the system will not operate normally.
 Do not rely excessively on the High Beam Control System (HBC) and drive the vehicle while paying suffi cient attention to safety. Switch the headlights between the high beams and
low beams manually if necessary.

NOTE
The timing in which the system switches the headlights changes under the\
following
conditions. If the system does not switch the headlights appropriately, manually switch
between high and low beams according to the visibility as well as road and traffi c
conditions.
   When there are sources of light in the area such as street lamps, illuminated signboards,
and traffi c signals.
  When there are re fl ective objects in the surrounding area such as re fl ective plates and
signs.
   When visibility is reduced under rain, snow and foggy conditions.  When driving on roads with sharp turn or hilly terrain.  When the headlights/rear lamps of vehicles in front of you or in the opposite lane are dim
or not illuminated.
  When there is suffi cient darkness such as at dawn or dusk.  When the luggage compartment is loaded with heavy objects or the rear passenger seats
are occupied.
  When visibility is reduced due to a vehicle in front of you spraying water from its tires
onto your windshield.

To Operate the System
The High Beam Control System (HBC)
operates to switch the headlights
automatically between high and low
beams after the ignition is switched ON
and the headlight switch is in the AUTO
and high beam position.
The High Beam Control System (HBC)
determines that it is dark based on the
brightness of the surrounding area. At the
same time, the High Beam Control System
(HBC) indicator light (green) in the
instrument cluster illuminates.


NOTE
  When the vehicle speed is about
30 km/h (19 mph) or more, the
headlights automatically switch to
high beams when there are no vehicles
ahead or approaching in the opposite
direction.
 When the vehicle speed is less than about 20 km/h (12 mph), the High Beam
Control System (HBC) switches the
headlights to low beams.
  The low beams may not switch to high
beams when cornering.
  Operation of the High Beam Control
System (HBC) function can be disabled.
