4. Firmly apply the parking brake.
5. Shift the transmission into P, and stop the engine.
To restart after parking on an incline:
1. With the transmission in P, start the engine. (Be sure to depress and hold thebrake pedal.)
2. Shift into gear.
3. Release the parking brake (also the foot brake) and pull away from the wheel blocks. Stop; apply the parking brake and shift into P.
4. Have a helper retrieve the wheel blocks.
Fuel consumption
Trailer towing causes higher fuel consumption.
Maintenance
If you tow a trailer frequently, have your vehicle serviced as shown in Scheduled
Maintenance (page 6-4).

NOTE
The cooling fan in the engine
compartment could turn on for a few
minutes after the ignition is switched
from ON to OFF, whether or not the
A/C is on or off, to cool the engine
compartment quickly.
If the system detects that the
remaining battery power of the key is
low when the ignition is switched
from ON to ACC or OFF, the
following is indicated.
Replace with a new battery before
the key becomes unusable.
Refer to Key Battery Replacement on
page 6-29.
A message is indicated in the display
of the instrument cluster.
Refer to KEY Warning Indication/
Warning Light (Red) on page 7-26.
If the engine is turned off while the
selector lever is in a position other
than P, the ignition switches to ACC.
▼ Emergency Engine Stop
Continuously pressing the push button
start or quickly pressing it any number
of times while the engine is running or
the vehicle is being driven will turn the
engine
off immediately. The ignition
switches to ACC.
Cylinder Deactivation*
▼ Cylinder Deactivation
The cylinder deactivation is a function
designed to reduce fuel consumption
and improve fuel economy by
deactivating 2 out of the 4 cylinders
while driving. The function constantly
determines which is better for driving;
4 cylinders or 2 cylinders, regardless of
the driver's operations, and it performs
the switching automatically.
When the cylinder deactivation
function does not operate
The cylinder deactivation function
does not operate under the following
conditions.
The selector lever is in the P, N, or R
position.
The engine oil temperature or engine
coolant temperature is low.
After disconnecting the battery
terminals for some reason, such as
for battery replacement.

▼Average Fuel Economy
This mode displays the average fuel
economy by calculating the total
traveled distance and the total fuel
consumption since the vehicle was
purchased or the past data was reset.
The average fuel economy is calculated
and displayed every 30 seconds.
The average fuel economy can be reset
by pressing the INFO switch for 1.5
seconds or more. After the data is
cleared, the fuel consumption is
recalculated and the - - - L/100 km
(- - - mpg) for the 30 seconds prior to
it being displayed is indicated.
▼Current Fuel Economy
This displays the current fuel economy
by calculating the amount of fuel
consumption and the distance
traveled.
NOTE
Indicates the 0 position when the
vehicle speed is about 5 km/h (3
mph) or slower.

▼ Mazda intelligent Drive Select
(Mi-Drive)
Mi-Drive is a system to switch the
vehicle's drive mode. When the sport
mode is selected, vehicle's response
against accelerator operation is
enhanced. This provides additional
quick acceleration which may be
needed to safely make maneuvers such
as lane changes, merging onto
freeways, or passing other vehicles.
CAUTION
Do not use the sport mode when
driving on slippery roads such as wet
or snow-covered roads. It may cause
tire slipping.
NOTE
When the sport mode is selected,
driving at higher engine speeds
increases and it may increase fuel
consumption. Mazda recommends
that you cancel the sport mode on
normal driving.
Drive mode cannot be switched in
the following conditions:
ABS/TCS/DSC is operatingThe Mazda Radar Cruise Control
with Stop & Go function (MRCC
with Stop & Go function) System is
operating.
Traffic Jam Assist (TJA) is operating.Steering wheel is being operated
abruptly

Press the Mi-Drive switch forward
(SPORT) to select the sport mode.
Pull the Mi-Drive switch back (OFF) to
cancel the sport mode.
NOTE
In the following cases, the Mi-Drive
is canceled.
The ignition is switched OFF.Mazda Radar Cruise Control with
Stop & Go function (MRCC with
Stop & Go function) System/cruise
control is set.

When the drive mode is set, the
display in the instrument cluster
changes.

Towing mode can be selected only
when a trailer is connected.
The driving mode in which the
display in the instrument cluster is
grayed out cannot be selected.
Towing mode can be selected only
when electrically connected to the
trailer using a Mazda genuine trailer
hitch. In addition, it may take some
time until the connection is detected
and towing mode is displayed.
When towing mode is selectable,
sport mode cannot be selected.
When the ignition is switched OFF,
the mode returns to normal mode.
However, towing mode before
switching the ignition OFF is
maintained only when the trailer is
connected in towing mode.
