off

the Intelligent Light System.

Setting the brightness of the ambient
lighting
X
Press the 000Aor0004 button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.

Lights submenu.

X Press 0005or0006 to select the Ambient Light Brightness: (vehicles with black
and white display)or Amb. Light +/-(vehicles with color multifunction display)
function.

brightness to any level from Off toLevel
5 (bright).

Activating/deactivating surround
lighting and exterior lighting delayed
switch-off
If you have activated the SurroundLighting function and the light switch is set
to 000C,t he following functions are activated
when it is dark:
R surround lighting: the exterior lighting
remains lit for 40 seconds after unlocking
with the key. If you start the engine, the
surround lighting is switched off and
automatic headlamp mode is activated
(Y page 105).
R exterior lighting delayed switch-off: the
exterior lighting remains lit for
60 seconds after the engine is switched off.
If you close all the doors and the tailgate,
the exterior lighting goes off after
15 seconds.
X Press the 000Aor0004 button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.
X Press the 0005or0006 button to select the
Lights submenu.
X Press 000Cto confirm. X
Press the 0005or0006 button to select the
Surround Lighting function.

Deactivating delayed switch-off of the
exterior lighting temporarily:
X Before leaving the vehicle, turn the
SmartKey to position 0in the ignition lock.
X Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
The exterior lighting delayed switch-off is
deactivated.
Delayed switch-off of the exterior lighting is
reactivated the next time you start the
engine.
i Depending on your vehicle's equipment,
when the surround lighting and delayed
switch-off exterior lighting are on, the
following light up:
R Parking lamps
R Frontf og lamps
R Low-beam headlamps
R Daytime runnin glamps
R Side marker lamps
R Surround lighting in the exterior mirrors
Activating/deactivating the interior
lighting delayed switch-off
If you activate the Interior Lighting Delay function, the interior lighting remains
on for 20 seconds after you remove the key
from the ignition lock.

door locking mechanism

when the Automatic Door Lock function
is activated, the vehicle doors are displayed
in orange in the multifunction display.

If you select the Automatic Door Lock (vehicles with black and white multifunction
display) or Automatic Door Lock (vehicles
with color multifunction display) function, the
vehicle is centrally locked above aspeed of
approximately 9mph (15 km/h).

locking verification signal
If you switch on the
Acoustic Lock Feedback (vehicles with black and white
multifunction display) or Acoustic Lock (vehicles with color multifunction display)
function, an acoustic signal sounds when you
lock the vehicle.

If you switch on the Fold Mirrors in when
Locking (vehicle
swithb lacka nd white
multifunctio ndisplay) or Auto.Mirror Folding function (vehicles with color
multifunction display), the exterior mirrors
fold in when you lock the vehicle.
If you unloc kthe vehicle and then open a
door, the exterior mirrors fold out again.
If you have switched on the Fold Mirrorsin when Locking (vehicles with black and
white multifunction display) or Auto.Mirror Folding (vehicles with color
multifunction display) function and you fold in
the exterior mirrors using the button on the
door (Y page 99), they will not fold out
automatically .The exterior mirrors can then
only be folded out using the button on the
door.
X Press the 000Aor0004 button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.
X Press the 0005or0006 button to select the
Convenience submenu.
X Press 000Cto confirm.
X Press 0005or0006 to select the Fold Mirrors in when Locking (vehicles with

Display messages
General notes
Display message sappear in th emultifunction display.
Display message swithg raphic displays may be shown in simplified for minthe Operator's
Manual and may differ from the messages shown in the multifunction display.
Please respond in accordance with the displaym essages and follow the additional notes in
this Operator's Manual.
Certain displaym essages are accompanied by an audible warning tone or acontinuous tone.
When the ignition is switched off, all displaym essages are deleted, apart from some high-
priority displaym essages. Once the causes of the high-priority displaym essages have been
rectified, the corresponding displaym essages are also deleted.
When you stop and park the vehicle, please observe the notes on the HOLD function
(Y page 171) and parking (Y page 152).Hiding display messages
X Press the 000Cor0002 button on the steering wheel to hide the displaym essage.
The displaym essage is cleared.
The multifunction displays hows high-priority displaym essages in red. Some high-priority
displaym essages cannot be hidden.
The multifunction displays hows these messages continuously until the causes for the
messages have been remedied. Message memory
The on-board computer saves certain displaym essages in themessage memory.Y ou can
call up the display messages:
X Press 000Aor0004 on the steerin gwheel to select the Serv menu.
If there are display messages, the multifunction display shows, for example, 2Messages .
X Press the 0006or0005 button to select the entry, e.g. 2Messages .
X Press 000Cto confirm.
X Press the 0006or0005 button to scroll through the display messages. Display messages

ASSIST PLUS may also have failed.
In addition, the 000A,0004and001C warning lamps light up in
the instrumen tcluster.
ATTENTION ASSIST is deactivated.
Possible causes are:
R self-diagnosis is not yet complete.
R the on-board voltage may be insufficient.
G WARNING
The brake system continues to function normally, but without the
functions listed above. The wheels could therefore lock if you
brake hard, for example.
The steerability and braking characteristics may be severely
affected. The braking distance in an emergency braking situation
can increase.
If ESP ®
is not operational, ESP ®
is unable to stabilize the vehicle.
There is an increased risk of skidding and an accident.
X Carefullyd riveashort distance on asuitable stretch of road,
making slight steering movement sataspeed above 12 mph
(20 km/h).
If the display message disappears, the functions mentioned
above are available again.
If the display message continues to be displayed:
