Where necessary,also safeguardthe parkedvehicle againstrollingaway.Theyellow $indicator lamp is on andthered Iindicator lamp (USA only) orthe $indicator lamp (Can‐ada only)flashesfor approximatelyten seconds afterthe electric parking brake has been applied orreleased. Itthenremains lit or goes out. The electric parking brake is malfunctioning.

Ifthe batterychargelevel istoo low:
Chargethe battery.
Toapply:
Switch offthe ignition.The electric parking brake is applied automatically.
Ifthe electric parking brake should not be applied, e.g. whenwashingthevehicle in an automatic carwash or whenhavingthevehicletowed, leavethe ignition switched on. This does not include havingthevehicletowed withtherear axleraised.
Ifthe electric parking brake is not applied automatically:
Switch offthe ignition and switch it back on.
Release andthen applythe electric parking brake manually ( page169).
If it isstill not possibletoapplythe electric parking brake:
Visit aqualified specialistworkshop.
Where necessary,also safeguardthe parkedvehicle againstrollingaway.
Torelease:
Ifthe conditionsfor automaticrelease are fulfilled andthe electric parking brake is notreleased automatically,releasethe electric parking brake manually ( page169).

Vehicles withoutthe Driving Assistance package:Active Brake Assististemporarily unavailable.
The ambient conditions are outsidethe system limits ( page175).
Drive on.As soon asthe ambient conditions are withinthe system limits,the system will becomeavailable again.
Ifthe display message does not disappear,stopthevehicle while paying attentiontoroad and traffic conditionsandrestartthe engine.

Overview ofwarning and indicator lamps
Some systems will performa self-test whentheignition is switched on. Somewarning and indi‐cator lamps may brieflylight up orflash. Thisbehavior is non-critical. Thesewarning and indi‐cator lamps indicate a malfunction only iftheylight up orflash afterthe engine has beenstar‐ted or during a journey.
