Displaying the assistance graphic X
Press the 0002or0005 button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssistmenu.
X Press 0003or0004 to select Assistance Graphic .

The multifunction display shows the
DISTRONIC PLUS distance display in the
assistance graphi c(Ypage 163).
The assistance graphic can display the status
of and information from other driving systems
or driving safety systems. The assistance graphic shows:
R
the 0002 symbol when ATTENTION ASSIST
(Y page 176) is deactivated.
R the lane markings as bright lines when Lane
Keeping Assist (Y page 178)or Active Lane
Keeping Assist (Y page 183) is activated.
R the 0001 symbol when PRE-SAFE ®
Brake
(Y page 67) is deactivated.

WARNING
If you deactivate ESP ®
, ESP ®
no longer
stabilizes the vehicle. There is an increased
risk of skidding and an accident.
Only deactivate ESP ®
in the situations
described in the following.
It may be best to deactivate ESP ®
in the
following situations:
R when using snow chains
R in deep snow
R on sand or gravel
Activating/deactivating ESP ®
on AMG
vehicles (Y page 66).

X Start the engine.
X Press the 0002or0005 button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssist menu.
X Press the 0003or0004 button to select
ESP .
X Press the 000Bbutton.
X To deactivate: press000Bagain.
The 0015 warning lamp in the instrument
cluster lights up.
X To activate: press000Bagain.
The 0015 warning lamp in the instrument

If the 000D warning lamp and the 0015
warning lamp are lit continuously, ESP ®

Activating/deactivating PRE-SAFE ®
Brake PRE-SAFE
®
Brake is only available in vehicles
with DISTRONIC PLUS.
X Press the 0002or0005 button on the
steering wheel to selec tthe DriveAssist menu.
X Press the 0003or0004 button to select
PRE-SAFE Brake .
X Press the 000Bbutton.
The current selection is displayed.
X To activate/deactivate: press the000B
button again.
When PRE-SAFE ®
Brake is deactivated, the
assistance graphic shows the 0001symbol
in the multifunction display.
If the PRE-SAFE Brake: Sensors Deactivated message appears, the radar
sensor system is deactivated.
X Switch on the radar sensor system
(Y page 202).

Activating/deactivating ATTENTION
ASSIST X
Press the 0002or0005 button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssistmenu.
X Press the 0003or0004 button to select
Attention Assist .X
Press the 000Bbutton.
The current selection is displayed.
X To activate/deactivate: press the000B
button again.
When ATTENTION ASSIST is deactivated,
the 0002 symbol appears in the
multifunction display in the assistance
graphics display.

Activating/deactivating Blind Spot
Assist X
Press the 0002or0005 button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssist menu.
X Press the 0003or0004 button to select
Blind Spot Assist .
X Press the 000Bbutton.
The current selection is displayed.
X To activate/deactivate: press the000B
button again.
If the Blind Spot Assist Sensors Deactivated or
Act. Blind Spot Asst. Sensors Deactivated message appears,
the radar sensor system is deactivated.
X Switch on the radar sensor system
(Y page 202).

Activating/deactivating Lane Keeping
Assist X
Press the 0002or0005 button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssist menu.

Lane Keep. Asst. X

The current selection is displayed.

X Press the 0004or0003 button to select the
Auto. Mirror Folding function.
If the Auto. Mirror Folding function is
activated, the vehicle's exterior mirror is
displayed in orange in the multifunction
display.
X Press the 000Bbutton to save the setting.
If you have switched the Auto. MirrorFolding function on and you fold the exterior
mirrors in using the button on the door
(Y page 101), they will not fold out
automatically. The exterior mirrors can then
only be folded out using the button on the
door.
Restoring the factory settings X
Press the 0002or0005 button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.
X Press the 0004or0003 button to select the
Factory Setting submenu.
X Press 000Bto confirm.
The Reset All Settings? message
appears.
X Press the 0004or0003 button to select
No or
Yes .
X Press the 000Bbutton to confirm the
selection.
If you have selected Yes , the multifunction
display shows a confirmation message.
For safety reasons, the Day Lights function
in the Lights submenu is only reset if the
vehicle is stationary. AMG menu in AMG vehicles

Upshift indicator UP 0022
indicates that the
engine has reached the overrevving range
when in the manual gearshift program.
Upshift indicator UP 0022
fades out other
messages until you have shifted up.
If the engine oil temperature is below 176 ‡
(80 †) the oil temperature is shown in blue.
Avoid driving at full engine output during this
time.
SETUP SETUP shows the drive program, the ESP
®
(Electronic Stability Program) mode and the
SPORT handling mode.
X Press 0002or0005 on the steering wheel
to select the AMG menu.
X Press the 0003button repeatedly until
SETUP is displayed. 0002

Display messages
General notes
Display messages appear in th emultifunction display.
Display messages with graphic displays may be shown in simplified for minthe Operator's
Manual and may therefore differ from the multifunction display.
Please respond in accordance with the display messages and follow the additional notes in
this Operator's Manual.
Certain display messages are accompanied by an audible warning tone or a continuous tone.
When the ignition is switched off, all display messages are deleted, apart from some high-
priority display messages. Once the causes of the high-priority display messages have been
rectified, the corresponding display messages are also deleted.
When you stop and park the vehicle, please observe the notes on the HOLD function
(Y page 166) and parking (Y page 148).Hiding display messages
X Press the 000Bor0006 button on the steering wheel to hide the display message.
The display message is cleared.
The multifunction display shows high-priority display messages in red. Some high-priority
display messages cannot be hidden.
The multifunction display shows these messages continuously until the causes for the
messages have been remedied. Message memory
The message memory allows you to call up previous display messages.
X Press the 0002or0005 button on the steering wheel to select the Serv. menu.
If there are display messages, the multifunction displays hows2 messages , for example.
X Press the 0003or0004 button to select the entry, e.g. 2 messages .
X Press 000Bto confirm.
X Press the 0003or0004 button to scroll through the display messages. 206

R the on-board voltage may be insufficient.

The brake system continues to function normally, but without the
functions listed above. The wheels could therefore lock if you
brake hard, for example.
The steerability and braking characteristics may be severely
affected. The braking distance in an emergency braking situation
can increase.
If ESP ®
is not operational, ESP ®
is unable to stabilize the vehicle.
There is an increased risk of skidding and an accident.
X Carefully drive a suitable distance, making slight steering
movements at a speed above 12 mph (20 km/h).
If the display message disappears, the functions mentioned
above are available again.
If the display message continues to be displayed:
X Drive on carefully.

Brake is temporarily inoperative. Possible causes are:
R function is impaired due to heavy rain or snow.
R the sensors in the radiato rgrill and the bumper are dirty.
R the rada rsensor system is temporarily inoperative, e.g. due to
electromagnetic radiation emitted by nearby TV or radio
stations or other sources of electromagnetic radiation.
R AMG vehicles: ESP ®
is deactivated.
R the system is outside the operating temperature range.
R the on-board voltage is too low.
When the causes stated above no longer apply, the display
message disappears.
PRE-SAFE ®
Brake is operational again.
If the display message does not disappear:
X Pull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible, paying
attention to road and traffic conditions.
X Secure the vehicle against rolling away (Y page 148).
X Clean the sensors in the radiator grill and the bumper
(Y page 277).
X Restart the engine.
X AMG vehicles: reactivate ESP ®
(Y page 66). PRE-SAFE

SRS Malfunction
Service Required There is a malfunction in the SRS (Supplemental Restraint
System). The
001Ewarning lamp also lights up in the instrument
cluster.
G WARNING
The air bags or Emergency Tensioning Devices may either be
triggered unintentionally or, in the event of an accident, may not
be triggered.
There is an increased risk of injury.
X Visit a qualified specialist workshop.

increase.
R they may wear excessively and/or unevenly, which may greatly
impair tire traction.
R the driving characteristics, as well as steering and braking, may
be greatly impaired.
There is a risk of an accident.
X Stop the vehicle without making any sudden steering or braking
maneuvers. Pay attention to the traffic conditions as you do so.
X Secure the vehicle against rolling away (Y page 148).
X Check the tires and, if necessary, follow the instructions for a
flat tire (Y page 283).
X Check the tire pressures and, if necessary, correct the tire
pressure.
X Restart the tire pressure loss warning system when the tire
pressure is correct (Y page 303).Check Tire Pressure

R you could lose control of the vehicle.
R continued driving with a flat tire will cause excessive heat build-
up and possibly a fire.
There is a risk of an accident.
X Stop the vehicle without making any sudden steering or braking
maneuvers. Pay attention to the traffic conditions as you do so.
X Secure the vehicle against rolling away (Y page 148).
X Check the tires and, if necessary, follow the instructions for a
