Important notes R
If the KEYLESS GO key is removed from the
vehicle (in luggage or an article of clothing,
for instance), it will no longer be possible
to lock or start the vehicle .
R If the KEYLESS GO key is removed from the
vehicle while the engine is running, e.g. if
the front passenger leaves the vehicle with
the KEYLESS GO key, the following mes-
sage will appear in the multi-function dis-
play as you pull away: Key not detec-
ted.
R If the KEYLESS GO key is in the vehicle, the
vehicle can be started at any time. If you
have left the KEYLESS GO key in the vehi-
cle, you will see the following message in
the multi-function display when you lock
the vehicle: Key still in vehicle.
Factory settings X
To unlock centrally :pull the door handle.
The turn signals flash once. The locking
knobs in the doors pop up. The anti-thef t
alarm system* is deactivated.
When it is dark, the surround lighting also
comes on if it is activated in the on-board
computer. i
If you do not open either a door or the
boot lid/tailgate after you have unlocked
the vehicle, it will relock automatically after
approximately 40 seconds.
i It is possible that the vehicle may be inad-
vertently unlocked if the KEYLESS GO key
is within a maximum of one metre of the
vehicle and the door handle is splashed by
a gush of water or if you are cleaning the
door handle . 1
Sensor surface on the door handl e
X To lock centrally: touch sensor surface
1 on the door handle.
The turn signals flash three times. The lock-
ing knobs in the doors drop down. The anti- theft alarm system* and the immobiliser
are primed.
Individual settings You can change the setting of the lockin
g
system. When you now grasp the door handle
on the driver's door, you will only unlock the
driver's door and the fuel filler flap. This is
useful if you frequently travel on your own.
X To change the settings :press and hold
the k andj buttons of the key
simultaneously for approximately six sec-
onds until the battery check lamp flashes
twice.
The KEYLESS GO key will now function as fol-
lows:
X To unlock the driver's door: Pull the door
handle on the driver's door.
X To unlock centrally :Pull the door handle
on the front-passenger door or on the rear
doors.
X To lock centrally: touch sensor surface

Restoring the factory settings X
Press the kandj buttons on the
key simultaneously for approximately six
seconds until the battery check lamp
flashes twice.
Locking from the luggage compartment
(Estate with remote boot locking*) On vehicles with KEYLESS GO* and EASY-
PACK tailgate*, you can close the tailgate
automatically and thereby centrally lock your
vehicle (Y page 84). Opening the doors from the inside
You can open a door from the inside at any
time, even if it has been locked. 1

If the door is locked, locking knob 1pops
up. The door is unlocked and can be
opened. Automatic locking feature
The vehicle will lock automatically once you
have pulled away.
On vehicles with a luxury multi-function steer -
ing wheel you can also activate and deacti-
vate the automatic locking via the on-board
computer (Y page 143).
i The vehicle is locked automatically when
the ignition is switched on and the wheels
begin to turn. There is therefore a risk of
being locked out when the vehicle is being
pushed or tested on a dynamometer.

hear a tone. Locking/unlocking the vehicle from
the inside
You can centrally lock or unlock the vehicle
from the inside. This feature may be useful if,
for example, you wish to unlock the front-
passenger door from the inside or lock the
vehicle before you pull away. G
Risk of accident
Do not leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle. They could open a door from the
inside – even if it is locked – and thereby
endanger themselves and others.
i You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally
from the inside if the vehicle has been
locked from the outside using the key or
the KEYLESS GO key*.
i It is only possible to lock the vehicle cen-
trally if the front-passenger door is closed. 1

Risk of poisoning
If the engine is running and the boot lid/
tailgate is open, exhaust fumes can enter
the interior of the vehicle. This could poison
you. Therefore make sure that the boot lid/
tailgate is always closed when the engine
is running.
! The boot lid/tailgate swings upwards and
out when it is opened. Therefore, make sure that there is enough space above and
behind the boot lid/tailgate.
Opening from the outside You can only open the boot lid/tailgate if yo
u
have unlocked it first.

Opening from the outside using the key
(Saloon) You can unlock and open the boot lid simul-
taneously with the key when the vehicle is
stationary.

Locking the boot separately (Saloon) You can lock the boot separately

unlock the vehicle centrally, the boot remains
locked and can not be opened.
X Close the boot lid.
X Remove the emergency key element from
the key (Y page 300). $
Basic setting
% Separate locking
X Insert the emergency key element into the
boot lock to the stop.
X Turn the emergency key element clockwise
to position %.
X Pull off the emergency key element . Luggage compartment (Estate with
EASY-PACK tailgate*)
On vehicles with the EASY-PACK tailgate* ,
the tailgate opens and closes automatically.
You can stop the automatic opening and clos-
ing process at any time:
R by pushing the remote operating switch at
the driver's seat again
R by pressing the ibutton on the key
R by pressing the button in the handle of the
tailgate
R by pressing the closing button on the tail-
gate
If you have stopped the tailgate in an inter-
mediate position, then open or close the tail-
gate fully using the automatic function .
A tone sounds when the tailgate opens or
closes . G
Risk of poisoning
If the engine is running and the tailgate is
open, exhaust fumes can enter the interio r
of the vehicle. This could poison you. There-
fore make sure that the tailgate is always
closed when the engine is running.

The tailgate swings upwards and out
when it is opened. Therefore, make sure
that there is enough space above and
behind the tailgate.
i When the tailgate is fully opened, you can
also close it manually.
! If the tailgate is opened automatically,
wait a short time before closing the tailgate
again manually.
Opening from the outsid eYou can only open the tailgate after unlockin

it first.
X To unlock centrally :press the kbut-
ton on the key. To open the tailgate

until the tailgate opens. Closing from outside (without KEYLESS
GO*) You can lock the tailgate from outside using
the closing button inside the tailgate.

side (using KEYLESS GO* )You can close the tailgate from outside using
the closing button in the tailgate or, using the
KEYLESS GO button*, you can close the boot
and simultaneously lock the vehicle centrally.

Restricting the tailgate opening angle You can limit the opening angle of the tailgat
e
within the upper half of its opening range. This
could be useful, for example, if there is insuf-
ficient clearance above the tailgate.
Activating
X To open the tailgate: press and release
the button in the handle.
X To stop the opening procedure: press the
button in the handle again or press
the i button on the key.
X Press and hold the closing button in the
tailgate until you hear a brief tone.
The limited opening angle is activated. The
tailgate then stops in the stored position
when opened.
i If you want to open the tailgate fully, press
the button in the handle of the tailgate
again after it has stopped at the set angle.
The stored position is retained.
Deactivating
X Press and hold the closing button in the
tailgate until you hear two brief tones. Key positions

If you press the KEYLESS GO button repeat -
edly without depressing the brake pedal, its
function corresponds to the different key
positions in the ignition lock.
If you depress the brake pedal and press the
KEYLESS GO button, the engine starts imme-
diately.
i In order for the engine to be started using
the KEYLESS GO button, the KEYLESS GO
key must be in the vehicle .
i If there is a key in the ignition lock, it has
priority over the KEYLESS GO function. 1

If you have not yet pressed KEYLESS GO but-
ton

key in the ignition lock.

It is now possible to switch on the wind-
screen wipers, for example.
i If you now press KEYLESS GO button 1
twice, and the driver's door is open, the
power supply is disconnected again.
X Position 2 (ignition) :press KEYLESS GO

i If you now press KEYLESS GO button 1
once and the driver's door is open, the
power supply is disconnected again.
Removing the KEYLESS GO button You can detach the KEYLESS GO button from
the ignition lock and start the vehicle with
a

recognition time before you can use the
KEYLESS GO button as usual.

Depending on the vehicle's equipment, the
seat adjustments can be made either man-
ually/electrically or electrically* . G
Risk of injury
The seats can still be adjusted when there
is no key in the ignition lock. For this rea -
son, children should never be left unsuper-
vised in the vehicle. They could become
trapped by a seat adjustment movement. G
Risk of accident
Only adjust the driver's seat when the vehi-
cle is stationary. You will otherwise be dis-
tracted from the road and traffic conditions
and you could lose control of the vehicle as
a result of the seat moving. This could
cause an accident. Control

Make sure that nobody can become trap -
ped as you adjust the seat.
Observe the notes concerning the airbag
system .
Secure children as recommended; see the
"Children in the vehicle" section.
! When you move the seats, make sure tha t
there are no objects in the footwell or
behind the seats. Otherwise, you could
damage the seats and the objects .
i It is not possible to remove the head
restraints from the front seats, or, in vehi-
