Locking the boot separately You can lock the boot separately.

If you then
unlock the vehicle centrally, the boot remains
locked and cannot be opened.
X Close the boot lid.
X Remove the emergency key element from
the key (Y page 365). X
Insert the emergency key element fully into
the tailgate lock.
X Turn the emergency key element clockwise
from position 1to position 2.
X Remove the emergency key element. Automatically opening/closing the
vehicle from outside
Opening the spare wheel bracket You can open the boot lid with the key.

Risk of injury
Monitor the boot lid opening and closing pro-
cedures to make sure that nobody can
become trapped. To halt the opening or clos-
ing procedure, press the closing button* in
the boot lid again or pull the handle on the
outside of the boot lid.
X Press and hold the Fbutton on the key
until the boot lid opens.
Closing the spare wheel bracket You can close the boot lid automatically by
using either the closing button or the locking
button

Press locking button ;in the boot lid.
i If you leave a KEYLESS GO key* in the
boot, the boot lid will not lock.

X Turn the emergency key element anti-
clockwise as far as possible.
The boot is unlocked.
X Turn the emergency key element back and
remove it. Replacing batteries (key, remote con-
trol, etc.) Notes
It is advisable to have the batteries replaced
at a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. at a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. G
Risk of poisoning
Batteries contain toxic and caustic substan-
ces. For this reason, keep batteries away from
children.
If a battery is swallowed, consult a doctor
immediately. H
Environmental note
Do not dispose of batteries with the house-
hold rubbish. They contain highly toxic sub-
stances.
Take discharged batteries to a qualified spe-
cialist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz
Service Centre, or to a special collection point
for old batteries. Key

Press the &or% button.
The batteries are in order if the battery
charge indicator lamp lights up briefly.
Changing batteries (key with KEYLESS
GO*) You require two CR 2025 3 V cell batteries.

Remove the emergency key element from
the key (Y page 365). X
Insert emergency key element :into the
opening in the key and push in the direction
of the arrow.
Battery tray ;is released.
X Pull battery tray ;out of the key. X
Remove old batteries :from the battery
tray.
X Insert the new batteries beneath the con-
tact spring with the positive pole facing
upwards. Use a lint-free cloth to do so. Replacing batteries (key, remote control, etc.)
