Important safety notes In the following section, the term "sliding sun-
roof" refers to the panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel.
G WARNING
While opening and closing the sliding sunroof,
body parts in close proximity could become
trapped. There is ar isk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the opening and closing pro-
cedures.
If somebody becomes trapped: R
release the switch immediately, or R
during automatic operation, push the
switch briefly in any direction
The opening or closing procedure will be stop-
ped.
G WARNING
If children operate the sliding sunroof they
could become trapped, particularly if they are
left unsupervised. There is ar isk of injury. When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children unsupervised in the vehicle.
G WARNING
At high speeds the raised sliding sunroof auto-
matically lowers slightly at the rear. This could
trap you or other persons. There is ar isk of
injury. Make sure that nobody reaches into
the sweep of the sliding sunroof whilst the
vehicle is in motion.
If somebody becomes trapped, immediately
pull back the sliding sunroof switch. The slid-
ing sunroof lifts during opening.
! Only open the sliding sunroof if it is free of
snow and ice. Otherwise, malfunctions may
occur.
Do not allow anything to protrude from the
sliding sunroof. Otherwise, the seals could be
damaged.
! The weather can change abruptly. It could
start to rain or snow. Make sure that the slid-
ing sunroof is closed when you leave the vehi-
cle. The vehicle electronics can be damaged if
water enters the vehicle interior.
i Resonance noises can occur in addition to
the usual airflow noises when the sliding sun-

sure fluctuations in the vehicle interior.
Change the position of the sliding sunroof or
open as ide window slightly to reduce or elim-
inate these noises.
Sliding sunroof reversing feature In the following section, the term "sliding sun-
roof" refers to the panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel.
The sliding sunroof is equipped with an auto-
matic reversing feature. If as olid object blocks
or restrict st he sliding sunroof during the closing
process, the sliding sunroof opens agai na uto-
matically .H owever, the automatic reversing
feature is only an aid and does not relieve you of
the responsibility of paying attention when clos-
ing the sliding sunroof.
G WARNING
The reversing feature does not react: R
to soft, light and thin objects, e.g. small fin-
gers R
over the last 1/6 in (4 mm) of the closing
movement R
during resetting R
when closing the sliding sunroof agai nm an-
ually immediately after automatic reversing
This means that the reversing feature cannot
prevent someone being trapped in these sit-
uations. There is ar isk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the closing procedure.

by Mercedes-Benz, the sliding sunroof lowers
slightly but remains raise datt he rear.
Rain-closing feature The rain-closing feature is only available for vehi-
cles with ar ain sensor.
When the SmartKey is in position Z in the igni-
tion lock or is removed, the sliding sunroof
closes automatically: R
if it starts to rain. R
at extreme outsid et emperatures.R
after six hours. R
if there is am alfunction in the powe rs upply.
The panorama roof with powe rt ilt/sliding panel
remains raise datt he rear in order to allow ven-
tilation of the vehicle interior.
If the panorama roof with powe rt ilt/sliding
panel is obstructed whil eb eing closed by the
rain-closing feature, it opens again slightly. The
rain-closing feature is then deactivated.
The panorama roof with powe rt ilt/sliding panel
does not close if: R
it is raise datt he rear.R
it is blocked. R
no rain is falling on the area of the windshield
being monitored by the rain sensor. If the
vehicle ,f or example ,isu nder ab ridge or in a
carport, the field of the sensor may be cov-
ered.

panel
Important safety notes
G WARNING
Parts of the body could become trapped

ing. There is ar isk of injury.
When opening or closing, make sure that no
body parts are in the sweep of the rolle rs un-

The opening or closing procedure wil lbes top-

The rolle rs unblind shields the vehicle interior
from sunlight. The rolle rs unblind can only be
opened and closed when the panorama roof
with powe rt ilt/sliding panel is closed.
Rolle rs unblind reversin gf eatureThe rolle rs unblind is equipped with an auto-
matic reversing feature. If as olid object blocks
or restricts the rolle rs unblind during the closing
process, the rolle rs unblind opens again auto-
matically. The automatic reversing feature is
only an aid and is not as ubstitute for you ra tten-
tiveness when closing the rolle rs unblind.
G WARNING
The reversing feature does not react: R

Problems with the panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel
G WARNING
If you do not reset the sliding sunroof after am alfunction or voltage supply interruption, then the
backing up function will malfunction or not work. The sliding sunroof closes with increased or
maximum force. Parts of the body could be trapped in the closing area in the process. This poses
an increased risk of injury or even fatal injury.
In such or similar situations always make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area.
Always reset the sliding sunroof after am alfunction or voltage supply interruption.
! If the sliding sunroof still cannot be opened or closed as ar esult of am alfunction ,c ontact a
qualified specialist workshop.

Flammable materials introduced through
environmental influence or by animals can
ignite if in contact with the exhaust system or
parts of the engine that hea tu p. There is ar isk
of fire.
Carry out regular checks to make sure that
there are no flammable foreig nm aterials in
the engine compartment or in the exhaust
system.
General notes During ac old start, the engine runs at higher
speeds to enabl et he catalytic converter to
reach its operating temperature. The sound of
the engine may change during this time.

Starting procedure with the SmartKey To start the engine using the SmartKey instead
of the Start/Stop button, pul lt he Start/Stop

Turn the SmartKey to position I in the igni-
tion lock ( Y

as the engine is running.
Starting procedure with the Start/Stop
button The Start/Stop button can be used to start the
vehicl em anually without inserting the SmartKey
into the ignitio nl ock. The Start/Stop button
must be inserted in the ignitio nl ock and the
SmartKey must be in the vehicle. This mode for
starting the engine operates independently of
the ECO start/stop automatic engine start func-
tion.
You can start the engine if av ali dS martKey is in
the vehicle. Switch off the engine and always
take the SmartKey with you when leaving the vehicle, even if you only leave it for as hort time.
Pay attention to the important safety notes. X

phone from outside the vehicle. In this case, the
previousl ys elected climate control setting is
activated. In this way you can cool or heat the
interior of the vehicl eb efore starting the jour-
ney.
Only start the engine via you rs martphone if it is
safe to start and run the engine where you rv ehi-
cle is parked.
Observe the lega ls tipulations in the area where
you rv ehicl eisp arked .E ngine start via smart-
phone may be limited to certain countries or
regions.
You can execute am aximu moft wo consecutive
starting attempts via you rs martphone. If you
insert the SmartKey into the ignitio nl ock, you
can carry out two more starting attempts.
Once you have started the engine, you can
switch the engine off via you rs martphone at any
time.
You can only start the engine via you rs mart-

Dispose of empty packagin ga nd cleaning
cloths in an environmentally responsible man-
ner.
! For cleanin gy our vehicle, do not use any of

Do not scrub.
Do not touch the surfaces or protective films
with hard objects, e.g. ar ing or ice scraper.
You could otherwise scratch or damage the
surfaces and protective film.
! Do not park your vehicle for al ong period of
time directly after cleaning, particularly after
cleanin gt he wheel rim with wheel cleaner.
Wheel cleaner can lead to the increased cor-
rosion of the brake discs and pads. Therefore,
drive for af ew minutes after cleaning. By
heating up the brakes, the brake discs and
pads dry. The vehicle can then be parked for a
long period of time.
Regular care of your vehicle is ac ondition for
retaining the quality in the long term.

Automatic car wash
G WARNING
Braking efficiency is reduced after washing
the vehicle. There is ar isk of an accident.
After the vehicle has been washed, brake
carefully while paying attention to the traffic
condition su ntil full brakin gp ower is restored.
! When Distance Pilot DISTRONIC or the
HOLD function is activated, the vehicle
brakes automatically in certain situations.
To avoid damage to the vehicle, deactivate
Distance Pilot DISTRONIC and the HOLD
function in the following or similar situations: R
when towing the vehicle R
in the car wash
! Never clean your vehicle in aT ouchless
Automatic Car Wash as these use special
cleanin ga gents. These cleanin ga gent sc an
damage the paintwor korp lastic parts.
! Make sure that the automatic transmission
is in position N when washing your vehicle in
at ow-through car wash. The vehicle could be
damaged if the transmission is in another
position.
! Make sure that: R
the side windows and the sliding sunroof
are fully closed. R
the blower is switched off. R
the windshield wiper switch is at position 0 .
The vehicle may otherwise be damaged.
You can wash the vehicle in an automatic car
wash from the very start.
If the vehicle is very dirty, pre-wash it before
cleanin gitinana utomatic car wash.
After using an automatic car wash, wipe off wax
from the windshield and the wiper blades. This
will preven ts mears and reduce wiping noises
caused by residue on the windshield.
Washing by hand
In some countries, washing by hand is only
allowed at specially equipped washing bays.
